Know Your Audience The largest share of Instagram users is individuals aged between 25 and 34 years old (31%), followed by the 18-24 year age group (21.5%). It is therefore important you know your audience and aim your images and captions at a younger audience when using Instagram.

Who You Gonna Call? Your Instagram profile is a great tool to help you promote your services, showcase your fabulous hair creations, and grow your clientele.

FUTURA’S INSTAGRAM BIO

Your first step in improving your profile is to update your bio. You have included a link to your website which is ideal, but we recommend you also add your salon phone number, email and a book online link. Only use the direct messaging (DMs) feature if you are going to regularly check and respond to the messages. You can set up auto responders for DMs, such as: ‘Thank you for reaching out, we are not taking bookings via DM at this time, please contact the salon via the link in our bio to book.’

Take Great Photos & Reels

FUTURA’S INSTAGRAM IMAGERY

You have created some superb hair transformations which you are sharing on your Instagram profile. However, there is inconsistency in the way in which you showcase this work. Sometimes you show 3 images in one frame, 1 ½ in one frame, or 4 in one frame. Your grid should look enticing with beautiful hair images so we recommend you change the way in which you showcase your before & after images. Start with the ‘after’ image and use the “swipe to see the before” function as it is popular with Instagram followers. Your posts should always include at least one ‘before’ & one or more ‘after’ images – preferably showing the ‘journey’ the hair has gone on. Here are some guidelines to help you improve on the quality and consistency of images: ▲ ▲ ▲

Take images in a 1080 x 1080 pixels (square) frame If you have not done so already, purchase a ring light for the salon Take images in the same spot of the salon if you can

Take before and after images

INSTA IMAGES ARE YOUR ‘SHOP WINDOW’

It’s good to see you are creating videos and reels as they are a great way to boost engagement. Your reels are usually liked by around 20 individuals (with one video reaching 46 likes). Your posts tend to average around 5 to 6 likes.

Getting The Grid Right Instagram is your shop window. It reflects your business and your brand. The grid should, therefore, be aesthetically pleasing and feature stunning hair images. The Futura grid has good content which could look much better if it was laid out in a more thoughtful manner. Popular content includes: ▲ ▲ ▲ ▲ ▲

Hair before & after transformations Team images either showing them at work or with a little bio Great reviews from delighted clients Inspirational or funny quotes Introducing new products or product/service reminders

Models wanted

Think about how you want your grid to look. Your images should work alongside each other to form a clear flow and pattern. FUTURA’S INSTAGRAM GRID

CONSISTENCY IS THE KEY TO A GREAT-LOOKING GRID

RECOMMENDATION: ▲ ▲ ▲ ▲

Plan ahead and start gathering material you can use. Make use of your teal and gold colour scheme to add borders or a background to client reviews, inspirational quotes, products, team images. Really think about how you can make your grid look more professional. Consider alternating hair images with branded messages, quotes, reviews etc.

How Often Should You Post? Your Instagram followers will visit your page again and again… but only if you post new images regularly. In the past month, Futura Hair has created 9 posts on Instagram. We recommend you post daily but, if that is too time-consuming, try to post at least 3 times a week. By planning ahead, you can ensure you have plenty of content that can be added into your grid around your hair images.

Hashtags, Captions & Tags Captions give a voice to your visual content. It’s great that you are adding captions to all of your posts. We recommend you now build upon this. A good Instagram caption explains what the photo is about and invites people to leave a comment. Always include a call to action in your caption such as “click the link in our bio” or “double tap if you love this hair colour”. Help your followers to engage with you by inviting them to do so! Use emojis that are relevant to help your captions stand out or to highlight points. Where possible, tag the model and stylist. Hashtags are important because they help you to increase your audience by ensuring your content is seen by more people than just our followers. Hashtags can also increase your social shares. You consistently use hashtags and, most importantly, you always include your location (geotagging). Consider creating a bank of hashtags that you can use. Popular and relevant hashtags which have millions of followers include:

Hair specific hashtags: #balayage #haircolour #instahair #blondebalayage #ombrehair #longhair #rootshadow

Supplier specific hashtags: #redken #redkenobsessed #olaplex #revlon

Highlights & Stories After your bio, the first thing your followers see on your Instagram page are your Highlights. These allow you to organise your Instagram stories and are a creative way to let your followers know about your products, services, team members, green initiatives etc. Your highlights section currently contains one category. We recommend you add more highlights, focusing on the most important services, products or initiatives you want your clients to see. Instagram Stories are a feed of photos or videos that disappear from your profile after 24 hours. We are unsure as to whether you are using the Stories function as none were present on your site when we checked. We recommend you use stories weekly as these short videos are a great way to engage with clients and potential clients. It’s worth noting that viewers have the option of directly responding to your story via direct messaging so you may wish to disable replies in your app’s settings.

HOW TO MAKE FACEBOOK WORK FOR YOU

https://www.facebook.com/FuturaHairGroup/ 183 likes 192 followers 6 reviews Know Your Audience The largest demographic group of Facebook users in the UK is between the ages of 25 and 35 years (25.1%), followed by 35 to 44 year olds (19.9%). Interestingly, the number of 65 year olds+ using Facebook is growing significantly year by year. It is therefore important to understand who you are targeting when you create your Facebook posts.

All About You! Your About Us section has been set up well, containing all the relevant information including salon name & address, map, opening hours, website link, phone number, email and the WhatsApp function. It’s worth considering whether the WhatsApp function works for you. Do clients use WhatsApp to book appointments? Consider including a BOOK NOW button which links directly to your online booking interface. You have included a great banner image containing your be-you-tiful slogan and the Futura logo. While the banner image is beautiful and eye-catching, you might want to consider updating the imagery with a teal and gold background, so it looks more aesthetically pleasing next to your logo colour scheme.

Five Star Reviews One of the first areas a potential client will check when deciding whether to visit your salon is your reviews. Today most people will either check your website or Google reviews, but many salons have success in growing their facebook reviews as well. You currently have 6 facebook reviews which are all dated from 2021. If it feels like too big a challenge to grow these reviews, you might want to remove facebook reviews. To do this: ▲ ▲ ▲ ▲ ▲

go to Settings, click Edit Page, scroll down to Reviews, choose the Settings option (to the right of Reviews), turn Reviews off,

What To Post & When To Post

EYE-CATCHING VIDEOS ARE ALWAYS A WINNER!

There is much debate about when is the best time to post on facebook. We’d suggest daily between 1-4pm. If you are not able to commit to daily posting, bear in mind that engagement is higher on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays (probably because people are winding down as they head into the weekend). In the past month we can see you have posted 10 times. There is low engagement on these posts with between 0 and 6 people liking them. The videos get slightly more engagement because they are so visual and eye-catching. As with Instagram, you should consider posting on the following topics: ▲ ▲ ▲ ▲ ▲ ▲ ▲

Hair before & after transformations Team images either showing them at work or with a little bio Happy Birthday wishes to your team members Great reviews from delighted clients Inspirational or funny quotes Introducing new products or product/service reminders Models wanted

Also take advantage of seasonal events such as Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Easter, Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, Summer Solstice, Bonfire Night, Christmas and so on. Add a personal message along the lines of ‘Happy Mother’s Day’. Seasonal events are also a great opportunity to showcase your products, gifts sets and encourage people into the salon.

Captions & Hashtags Your posts require longer captions and a few more hashtags. Check the Instagram list of suggested hashtags and dip in to use ones that are relevant to the image. When posting about a haircut or colour, the caption should explain what was achieved, who the stylist was, tag the client (with their permission), include relevant hashtags, and make it as easy as possible to book. Consider what you could write that might invite followers to leave a comment. e.g. ‘We’re calling this colour ‘summer sunshine’. What would you call it?’ Add a call to action to every post to boost engagement, create a conversation and encourage bookings.

How To Increase Your Facebook Followers Your ultimate aim is to increase your facebook followers. After all, each follower could become a new client or an existing client who is tempted to book in for an appointment. Follow these tips to try and increase your facebook followers. ▲ ▲ ▲ ▲ ▲ ▲ ▲

Post great content daily. Use hashtags (you can use the same group of hashtags on Instagram and facebook) Consider running facebook ads to promote a product or service. If facebook users like the ad content, they’ll likely engage with the post and potentially like or follow your facebook page. Invite your clients to like your facebook page and tag you when they post images of their fabulous new hairstyle or colour If you know any local influencers, ask them to follow you and tag you in return for an occasional complimentary haircut. Remember that videos usually get more likes. Facebook is notorious for updating its rules on whether you can run competitions or giveaways to incentivise people to ‘like’ or ‘tag’ a specific post. If you want to run a competition, please talk to one of the Salon Guru social media experts who can give you the latest information so you do not fall foul of the rules.
