Kennedy & Michael
I had no idea Michael had planned to propose on top of Rockefeller Center on a Sunday morning while we were on a trip to NYC with my family. He acted like he was taking pictures of me and of the Empire State Building, but while my back was turned, he dropped to his knee. I was so surprised when I turned around! Of course I said yes, and found out my parents were in on the whole thing – they had our photographer there capturing every moment. When it comes to weddings, they often say you should prepare for the unexpected, but I don’t think anyone counted on a massive downpour right before the ceremony. Within minutes, the ceremony site was covered in water and mud and everyone was wondering how I was going to make it down the aisle. Suddenly, guest after guest began rolling up their sleeves and moving flowers, arranging benches, and creating a “bridge” so that I could walk over the aisle and avoid any muddy mishaps. Being surrounded by so many special people helped make our day absolutely amazing! 8 | WG

With today’s hectic lifestyles, bridal couples, their friends, and their families often don’t have enough time for the detailed planning and work needed to coordinate a beautiful wedding. If you want to take a giant step towards a stress-free and successful day, hire a planner. They can help make your dreams come true within your budget, and they will definitely save you time. It’s crucial that the planner you hire is an excellent fit for your personality and style, since they will be responsible for making decisions that impact your big day. Take your time when interviewing planners, as you may be spending several months talking to them every single day! Once you choose a planner, make sure you have an agreement in writing. Whether you opt for a formal contract or a simple letter of agreement signed by both of you, it should spell out fees, payment schedules, and mutual responsibilities. Even though you hope you won’t need one, it’s important to include a cancellation and refund policy. Then, when everything is clear from the beginning, you can relax and focus on celebrating with your fiancé, friends, and family.

Wedding Planners Do Better You may think your bridesmaids can handle everything for your wedding, and that might be true. However, there are several things a wedding planner CAN do that will make your wedding better:
1.
OFFER INSIGHT AND ADVICE BASED ON THEIR EXPERTISE
Wedding planners plan lots of weddings. They know weddings, the industry, what they’re doing, and the industry norms. When you can have someone by your side who has tons of experience, everything about your day will flow more smoothly!
2. PROVIDE ACCESS TO INDUSTRY RELATIONSHIPS The relationships a planner has worked hard to build and maintain will be a huge help on your special day. Sometimes there are things you can’t determine through a website or simple consultation, and a planner can help you select quality vendors.
3. MEDIATION Does your mom want you to use fake flowers, but your heart is set on fresh flowers? Perhaps the groom’s family and yours have different ideas for the reception menu? A wedding planner who isn’t emotionally involved can step in and provide mediation to help ensure your vision is realized.
4. HANDLE BEHIND-THE-SCENES ISSUES Let’s face it - even if it’s a tiny thing, something may go wrong when planning your wedding. No matter what the situation, a planner can handle it, and you might not ever have to know! Having a trained professional on your team frees you up to have less stress and more fun on your big day.
5. PLANNERS CAN ACTUALLY SAVE YOU MONEY Because they know who has quality products and services for the best prices, a planner can save you several hundred dollars in multiple delivery fees or overpriced items. Even small decisions can add up to big savings when you have a planner who knows what they’re doing. WG | 11

In Honor of Bridesmaids
~
Women Support ing Each O t her
Throughout history women have traditionally come together in love and community to help a bride through the adventure of getting married. In fact, having bridesmaids is a custom dating all the way back to ancient Rome. In those days, these highly-honored wedding guests dressed identically to the bride, as the prevailing wisdom of the day said if all of the women were dressed the same, demons and evil spirits would be confused, thus keeping the bride safe.
When women in your life want to be your bridesmaid, take it as a clear message of love and commitment. While you may not need them to foil a roadside bandit attack, they will still be expected to help with everything from pre-wedding tasks like assembling DIY centerpieces and making welcome bags, to planning and cohosting the bridal shower and bachelorette party. They will keep a record of pre-wedding gifts and RSVPs, manage day-of tasks like ordering food for the bridesmaids while you’re all getting ready, help receive deliveries, and run any other errands to help your day go smoothly. They will be your sounding board, your cheerleader, your steady calm, and the people who encourage everyone else to dance at the reception.
Thankfully, bridesmaids are no longer expected to lay their life on the line in the performance of their wedding duties! Also, if the bride had to travel from her home village to her groom’s for the wedding, she was susceptible to attack by bandits or kidnapping by other suitors. But, with her bridesmaids all dressed alike, it was much more difficult to target the bride on the road or at her ceremony. While walking the bride to the groom’s village, her bridesmaids would also line up to form a protective shield. If any thieves (or jilted suitors) tried to hurt the bride or steal her dowry, her bridesmaids had to intervene. Modern wedding celebrations are often about more than you and your fiancé; they’re also about honoring the friends and family who’ve supported and loved you both throughout your relationship and in your individual lives. Your bridesmaids may even have been with you from the beginning as sisters, close cousins, childhood friends, or college roommates, and they will be a key source of support for you both during the months leading up to your wedding and on the actual day.
Today, in a culture where women are often taught to compete for the best of everything the act of being a bridesmaid is truly the essence of women supporting each other.

Michelle & Justin Every love story is beautiful, but ours is my favorite After quite a search, Justin and I were excited to find a venue that was precisely the right blend of rustic and chic. Chestnut Ridge was so new that on the day we viewed them, they were still putting up drywall! We had to use a bit of imagination to visualize what our event would look like – but we took that leap of faith together, and were thrilled with the results. One of the most deeply meaningful moments of the day happened just after the ceremony where, following our Jewish tradition, Justin and I went away together into a private room. We were able to spend 20 minutes with no people, no cameras, and no intrusions – just enjoying dedicated, peaceful time alone, officially as husband and wife. I love that we had an unplugged ceremony, and our guests were truly present with no cell phones or cameras. Being able to look out at our friends and family and connect with everyone looking back at us was so special. Our photographer captured how the day looked in amazing pictures, and our guests were able to capture how it felt with their hearts.

Corinne & Chase
We eloped! We met four years ago on Tinder when Chase was fresh out of college and I was finishing up my Bachelor’s. From our first date everything just clicked. Since then we have been adventuring our way around the Southeast, from scuba diving to paintballing and everywhere in between. We got engaged in August of 2017, but after visiting a couple of venues and visualizing our special day, it became clear that a big, expensive, stressful wedding day was not for us. So, we decided to elope to Cade’s Cove, Tennessee.

The fact that every part of our wedding was done 100% our way, on our time, and just the way we wanted it was amazing. With no large amount of guests to wrangle and worry about, we could just enjoy our sacred day together with zero distractions. This also meant our ceremony was very romantic and intimate. Chase and I are both into history, and we have a deep appreciation for the lifestyles of those who thrived before us. We felt our love was fitting to this adoration: timeless, simple, and cherished. So, when it came to choosing our clothing style, we wanted to reflect this sentiment.
A simple country wedding, with oodles of charm!

Jill & Colvin Colvin and I met in 2006 as sophomores at UNCA. We spent our college years as good friends and began dating in 2010. We were amazing partners for six years before Colvin proposed to me on July 10th, 2016 while we were camping in the Ohio national forest. I knew without a doubt I wanted to be his wife, but I had no idea what being a bride would look like for me. I am a tomboy, a set designer and carpenter, who never fantasized about her wedding. I knew I wanted a big party with the people I loved, with great food and as much dancing as I could force on people. And I wanted it to feel like it truly represented both of us. For Colvin, that meant being outside, preferably near a river. For both of us that meant a laid back vibe and BBQ. Salvage Station really was the perfect fit, and with Luella’s catering, it was a fantastic night. We started with a short ceremony that flowed right into the dinner and music.
I don’t care too much for flowers, so my bridesmaids helped me make the bouquets, boutonnieres and table decorations out of paint brushes and paint sticks. If I had to pinpoint a theme, it would probably be “Paint Spattered,” because I usually am. My bridesmaids all wore all black to mimic my theatre tech crew. My flower girl was our niece Eliza, and she threw sawdust instead of petals. Our ring-bearer was our nephew Hugo. We told them to wear their favorite outfits, so she wore her favorite leopard costume, and Hugo wore his beloved robot suit. We walked each other down the aisle, because that was the only thing that felt right to us. As my Dad said, you can’t give away what you don’t own. That’s how we approached every aspect of traditional weddings; anything that didn’t suit us, we changed. As a result, our wedding was a wonderful night that I’ll remember forever.

Life After the wedding and once you’ve returned from your honeymoon, it’s time to focus on what happens next. Before you change your name, adopt a pet together, or start searching for a new home, make sure you block out some time with your partner to decompress and reconnect – just the two of you. This is an excellent time to post online reviews of your vendors, go through all your gifts, make any returns or exchanges as needed, and send out your thank you notes.

LILY LARAMIE I started iLense Photos in hopes that I would be able to make my passion my work. Not only do I have the honor of photographing beautiful weddings, but I have the pleasure of connecting with two people in love, and helping them keep the memory of that forever in photos.
