CRAFTSMANSHIP IN HIGH TECHNOLOGY The Scissors mechanism can be operated as either a stand alone unit or integrated with a MiniTrac transporter for remote operation over an abrasion resistant 90 m / 300 ft tether cable. Custom systems can be designed for specific applications incorporating third party hardware. For example, the system shown on the right is a waterproof vehicle incorporating an ROS pan and tilt mechanism, a Nightrider video camera and two ISL 50W lights. Another system, built for the US Department of Defense, incorporates a noncontact infrared thermo-sensor. Originally designed for Battelle PNNL for an application at the Hanford nuclear site, the standard Scissors system incorporates a quality color video camera and 20 Watts of variable intensity lights. In it's lowered configuration the system is less than 16 inches high. When the mechanism is fully raised the camera can see over a five foot tall obstacle. The vehicle is controlled using an easily operated hand held control unit incorporating a joystick for speed and direction with separate controls for the raise/lower, camera pan, tilt, and focus functions.
