PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE On behalf of the board of directors, management and staff, I would like to extend a sincere and warm welcome to the thousands of guests, exhibitors and tourists attending the 128th year of the South Shore Exhibition. Again, this season we have worked hard to improve our infrastructure. Electrical upgrades to the trailer park will be a welcomed improvement for all those guests spending the week. A special thanks to the volunteers who assisted us on our workday painting around the grounds. Without the generous donations of paint and supplies from a variety of businesses and individuals, this would not have been possible. This year, the Pepsi Grand Street Parade has a shorter route along York Street. This change came about because of requests from participants, especially the walking groups who found the hills exceptionally difficult. Hopefully, this will make it more enjoyable for all. As always, we have a great lineup of entertainers playing on the DeMone Monuments main building stage, along with entertainment on the main entertainment stage, which is located in our Plaza B Show Ring. Our Saturday night entertainment features CCMA’s 2018 Songwriter of the Year, Aaron Goodvin. On Thursday evening, don’t miss Lunenburg County’s own The Bluegrass

On behalf of the Town of Bridgewater, my colleagues on town council, our staff, our residents and our local business community, I want to officially welcome you to the 2019 South Shore Exhibition! This year, the Big Ex is marking its 128th anniversary and we are proud that this important connection to our local agricultural heritage is still such a vibrant part of our community today. The Big Ex board of directors has worked hard to plan an exciting experience for all exhibition patrons in 2019 and the theme, Summer Sun & Country Fun, is reflective of the full slate of fun events and the kind of great live entertainment for which the exhibition is famous.

SOUTH SHORE EXHIBITION WELCOMES LUNENBURG COUNTY 4-H MEMBERS & LEADERS

The Lunenburg County 4-H counsel has been involved in the South Shore Exhibition for many years. 4-H is a large part of the week here at the exhibition and we would like to welcome all the members back and welcome the new members of the 4-H program. For more than 100 years, 4-H Canada has been one of the most highly respected youth organizations in the country. They are an organization of close to 25,000 youth members aged six to 25 and 7,700 volunteers across the country. 4-H is a not-for-profit organization that

is focused on strong leadership for world-class positive youth development experiences in Canada. Take part in the many projects that the Lunenburg County 4-H club has to offer such as light horse, dog obedience, beef, goat, dairy, sewing, handcrafts, baking, woodworking and so much more. If you would like to learn more or become involved in the 4-H program, talk to one of the many leaders or members that you can find hanging out in the 4-H barn.

Book your spot early so you don’t miss out! If you plan on travelling back and forth a fair bit, this is the cheapest and best option for you. Public parking is available across the street in our public parking lot on Exhibition Drive at the cost of $3.

MAIN BUILDING VENDORS Are you looking to purchase a new heat pump? How about a cowboy hat? Tshirts? Perhaps some jewelry or fudge? Be sure to drop by the main building, where we have lots of vendors selling their items. The turkey and chicken farmers will be there from the Department of Agriculture with lots of information about agriculture. We have lots of stuff for you to look at, so grab an ice cream and browse our

main building. Looking for something to fill up your “hangry” tummies? We have many food vendors on the grounds this year, including some of the old favourites, fish and chips, burgers, pizza, beavertails, slushies, Chinese, Lil Orbits Donuts, waffles, sandwiches and soups and, new this year, we have baked potatoes, salads, meat-free burgers and so much more. There is something for everyone.

This will once again be available for the 2019 South Shore Exhibition. If you have limited mobility, but just love attending the exhibition, the Big Ex Shuttle will drive you from our lower parking lot to the admissions area. The shuttle will be running as follows:

• Thursday from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. • Friday from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m. • Saturday from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m. • Sunday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Thank you to Enterprise in Hebbville for the use of the car to provide this service.

THE MARITIME FOUR HORSE CLASSIC Sponsored by Emino’s CarStar Quality Collision Service. The Maritime Four Horse Hitch Classic Series is a four horse draft hitch competition open to all breeds of draft horses. The competition is designed to help promote draft horse hitching at our local venues, as well as provide a new type of advertising. Watch the top eight qualifiers compete in the ever-popular High Stakes Ox Pull. Eight of the heaviest teams at the Big Ex will be going head to head for a prize purse worth $5,800 in an Americanstyle distance pull. In this pull, the drag is loaded to a certain percentage of weight and the teams compete to see how far they can pull the load in a timed five minutes. The team who pulls the drag the farthest length in five minutes is the winner. The High Stakes Ox Pull is sponsored by Ultramar and the South Shore Exhibition.

PEPSI GRAND STREET PARADE TUESDAY, JULY 23, AT 6 P.M.

The streets will be lined with parade watchers on Tuesday as they wait for the Pepsi Grand Street Parade. The parade route begins at the NSCC campus parking lot, where float assembly begins at 4 p.m. It will proceed onto High Street, down Empire to York, over to Dufferin Street where it will then enter the exhibition grounds and then through our Plaza B Show Ring.

Entry forms for the parade are available at the exhibition office, or can be emailed or faxed upon request. There are six categories in total offering prize money, including a Best Theme Float and Best Overall Float. AWARD-WINNING COUNTRY SINGER KEVIN DAVISON TO PERFORM

IAN STEWART AT THE BIG EX Ian Stewart is not just a juggler and a magician. He has appeared on television in more than a dozen countries and has been featured in publications ranging from Popular Mechanics to Ripley’s Believe It or Not! He’s a seven-time Guinness World Record holder and he’s headed to Bridgewater to show off his skills. His tricks involve such props as torches, Rubik’s Cubes, eggs, a lawn mower and his specialty of chainsaws that has gained him worldwide attention. Although he’s been a regular performer at the South Shore Exhibition for 20 years, he has some new tricks in his collection that will amaze you!

Truly Canadian Chainsaw Carvings is owned by Matthew Langille of Lawrencetown, N.S. The 31-year-old gained his inspiration from watching the show Carver Kings just three years ago. Although his girlfriend challenged him saying that he couldn’t carve a bear, he proved her wrong the very next day by grabbing his chainsaw and a log and doing just that. He has been carving ever since then and has created many pieces of art. Canadian country music artist and ECMA award winner Kevin Davison has launched a country music career that is taking the industry by storm. Jumping into the music scene with both cowboybooted feet in 2009, Davison found himself in Nashville within a year. With a career as a paramedic in his small hometown of Kentville, N.S., Davison has dedicated his life to helping others while always carrying a tremendous passion for music. You can catch Davison on the main entertainment stage on Thursday, July 25, at 10:15 p.m.
