Salus University is the first institution in the country to offer four master’s degree programs and certificates in the field of Blindness and Low Vision Studies. These programs combine distance learning education, on-campus residencies, and extensive fieldwork experiences.

BLINDNESS AND LOW VISION STUDIES Master’s degrees and certificates are available in the following areas: • Low Vision Rehabilitation • Orientation and Mobility • Education of Children and Youth with Visual Impairments • Vision Rehabilitation Therapy All applicants must have completed their undergraduate studies and must hold an undergraduate or graduate degree from an accredited college or university in order to be admitted to a program in the Salus University Department of Blindness and Low Vision Studies.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS Transcripts: All applicants are responsible for having official transcripts for every college or university attended sent directly to the Salus University Office of Admissions, regardless of whether a degree has been received from that particular institution or not. These official transcripts for all undergraduate and graduate work should be mailed directly to Salus University, not issued to the student.

APPLICATION PROCESS Applications for the Department of Blindness and Low Vision Studies are accepted each semester with the following deadlines: • Fall Semester - June 30 • Spring Semester - October 31 • Summer Semester - March 15

Statement of Purpose (minimum 250 words): Applicants must submit a statement explaining their purpose and motivation in undertaking graduate studies in the selected program.

National Test Scores: Applicants who do not have a graduate degree must have achieved acceptable levels of performance on a national test, such as Miller Analogies Test (MAT), Graduate Record Examination (GRE), or Optometry Admission Test (OAT). The applicant may choose the test based upon his/her professional preparation and program interest. Scores need to be sent directly to the Salus University Office of Admissions.

Choose One Specialty Track: A ) Low Vision Rehabilitation: This track prepares occupational therapists to specialize in working with persons with severe visual impairments via state-of-the-art training from an internationally recognized faculty of experts in the field of low vision. Courses concentrate on low vision assessment and intervention techniques to enhance participation in occupations and daily living skills for clients for whom vision impacts their independence and quality of life.

B ) Remedial Vision Rehabilitation - Pediatrics and Acquired Brain Injury: This track is designed to enable occupational therapists to gain a comprehensive understanding of vision problems prevalent in acquired brain injury and pediatric populations. Students will learn how to screen for the most commonly occurring problems and perform remedial vision rehabilitation for clients with these problems in an ongoing collaboration with an optometrist.

C ) Health and Wellness*: This track is designed to enable occupational therapists from any area of clinical practice to develop advanced/evidence-based expertise in holistic and innovative healthcare skills to assist individuals, groups or populations with or at-risk for chronic illness or disability. DISTANCE EDUCATION PROGRAMS Online AuD Degree (Bridge) Program The primary goal of this AuD Program is to prepare practicing audiologists in the U.S. and other countries to gain a professional doctorate degree in Audiology (AuD) by giving them the opportunity to enhance their professional and clinical capabilities and stay abreast of advances in theoretical, diagnostic and rehabilitation issues in auditory science and audiology. The online AuD Bridge Program is designed to enhance the students’ current level of experience in various areas of audiology, while focusing on the core competencies in the area of Biomedical Sciences, Diagnostic Sciences, and Remedial Sciences and Professional issues. These core competencies are based upon Salus University Osborne College of Audiology’s core philosophy in preparing an audiologist to compete in today’s dynamic and competitive healthcare services. You will see that our program of study reflects this objective.

International MSc in Clinical Audiology Program The primary goal of the MSCA degree program is to offer international audiology practitioners the chance to advance their knowledge and skills in audiologic care and to experience specialized fellowship training within a specific content area. This degree program features biomedical and audiologic sciences, clinical sciences, research design and application, and small group learning experiences, delivered in 54 semester hour credits over a 22-month period. This is a hybrid program with both face-to-face learning supplemented by online content, hands-on workshops and supervised clinical training.

Salus (Summer) Workshop Series The goal of these workshops is to provide an update on advanced and current science in the specific topic of study for the workshop, review clinical implications, and provide hands-on-training using the tools and techniques discussed in order to improve clinical practice. The workshops are designed to have an immediate impact on the participant’s clinical service delivery and are taught by faculty who are distinguished by their expertise in the areas they will teach. Workshop registrants should be current audiology practitioners/educators/clinicians. Each fourday workshop includes lectures and hands-on practice.
