This course has introduced me to so many new concepts, ideas, and understandings. It would be unrealistic of me to contemplate that in such a short time I could fully understand all aspects of brain-related visual impairments, characteristics, terminology, and individual needs.

I am truly impressed with how effective and efficient this course has been developed, and I now feel confident in my ability to contribute to the discussion and work of this group [NVI].

I have absolutely appreciated the honesty of this cohort group, as these discussions have solidified the importance of collaboration and a cross-disciplinary team approach when working with students with NVI. I have not only gained knowledge and understanding but a new and expansive network of colleagues.

As a part of the Early Intervention team, it is often overwhelming to review an infant referral with red flags for NVI. This course has helped to provide the resources needed, in order to dive deeper into Neurology reports, my evaluation strategies, and also provide families with resources in their quest for knowledge.

Above all – because of those who shared their stories [shared in this class] — I realized how much of an impact furthering our NVI knowledge can affect our bond with our families and aid our most infant learners. I’ve greatly appreciated this course, and feel like I’ve only begun to explore the tip of this iceberg and look forward to the continued dive!

This course has helped me grow professionally to meet the needs of my students and staff members and will be on the lookout for additional opportunities for continued growth.

I wanted to say thank you for the great class we just completed. I learned far more than I had actually imagined I would or had anticipated...I have had to rethink a lot of things about being a TVI not just with regard to NVI/CVI, but really as a matter of fact--the entire role, how I evaluate students, how I interview parents, what I'm looking for during evaluations, etc. I have a lot of work yet to do in this area.

With CVI being the leading cause of visual impairments in our country, an understanding of this condition and knowledge of successful strategies and interventions is essential to meet these children’s education needs. I have appreciated the information provided in this class through the readings, the videos and the discussion boards.

Wow, so much information! This course was fantastic! I strive to continue learning as much as I can about NVI, with the inclusion of CVIs, in order to be the best TCVI/COMS I can be. I also strive to share this information with all other providers, so as a team, we can work to understand the numerous challenges a child can face and provide the best possible learning environment for them.
