TALL WOOD BUILDING THE DEVELOPMENT OF M A S T E R

T H E S I S

Year: 2017 University: Politecnico Milano & TU Wien Place: Vienna (Austria) Supervisor: prof. M.Torri, prof. W.Winter

Climate change and demographical increase are inducing us to reconsider the way we build buildings. Wood has proven to be a sustainable solution. The aim of the Thesis is to show the differences between Mass Timber and concrete structures, along with the capabilities of Mass Timber. The Thesis work is based on a project of Alles Wird Gut and it adopts Mass Timber as structural material, instead of concrete. The first part of the Thesis consists in of a detailed research on the realized and on going Tall Wood projects which helped in the design choices.

IBM CAMPUS

RE-QUALIFICATION OF COMPETITION PROJECT Year: 2017 Place: Stuttgart (Germany) Office: Alles Wird Gut Architekten Collaborators: F.Bartel, B.QuĂŠtelart

The Competition was asking for a vision for the re-qualification of the IBM Campus of Egon Eiermann. The proposed project is considering to leave the existing green area untouched and add the required amount of new building area maximising the density on top. The existing building is seen as the future foundation of the new mixedused development.

BRUCKNER TOWER

RE-QUALIFICATION OF COMPETITION PROJECT Year: 2017 - 1st prize Place: Linz (Austria) Office: Alles Wird Gut + Hertl. Architekten Collaborators: T.Ricardo, F. Reiner, T. Jelavic, E. Oberndorfer, B. SchickermĂźller The high-rise in the north of the city of Linz brings lively and diversified facilities for living, working, and education to the urban fabric. The clearly readable sculptural building accentuates as a landmark the urban landscape east of the Lentia complex. Bent facades respond to the urban planning situation, giving the tower a slender look with varying aspects and identification potential.

PORTO VECCHIO MASTERPLAN

MASTER DESIGN PROJECT Year: 2016 Place: Trieste (Italy) Supervisor: prof. C. Luchsinger Collaborators: Federica Mian, Elisa Zambarda

The masterplan is generated using artificial and natural references which are combined to obtain a dynamic grid. The Masterplan considers different type of buildings and different heights. To emphasize some areas, there are different kind of towers. The role of these towers is to make immediately recognizable the main functions from the city centre or inside the new Porto Vecchio

The idea of the project started from a parametric script in order to create a decorative panel. Later the panel was produced through the use of milling software. The panel is characterized by differing depths that create different layers inside and therefore different shadows.

THE BIG SCALE

RE-URBANIFICATION WORKSHOP BAROZZI VEIGA Year: 2014 Place: Porto Marghera - Venice (Italy) Supervisor: F. Barozzi (Barozzi Veiga) Collaborators: A. Lunardi, C.Barbon, E.Cittadin

The workshop worked on the transformation of large and silent appearances in new centres for social life by giving shape to a new hypothetical city-constellation. The work topics focused on the issues of large-scale urban and architectural transformation and urban regeneration. The city of Marghera hosts industrial items mostly abandoned. The monumental size of its buildings and their complex structures, show the great value of engineering man-crafts during 70s and 80s.

URBAN SCALE

TOWERS HEART OF THE CITY WORKSHOP MAX DUDLER Year: 2013 Place: Porto Marghera - Venice (Italy) Supervisor: prof. Max Dudler Collaborators: A. Lunardi, F. Merotto

The industrial zone of Porto Marghera and the island of Venice mirrored one in the other for almost a century, with waterfronts bearing features belonging to distant, opposing eras and functions. Island, silhouette and scale are the themes approached by fifty students, starting with the direct experience of the city of Venice with the aim to redefine the identity of an artificial in the lagoon, considering the urban and social realities of the city. a reinterpretation of urban space, viewed in keeping with historical contexts and contemporary social needs, attempting to resolve the tensions and incompatibilities of two realities in contrast today, but belonging to the same lagoon system.
