In Point for clarinet, cello and piano, I wanted to make an "autobiographical" work, playing with my own birth name to generate rhythms and pitches. So I took the letters of my birth name and gives them a note to each letter, generating a series of pitches. To generate rhythms for each letter I used the old system of telegraphic communication, the Morse system consisting in dots and dashes, points are shorter rhythms and dashes are long rhythms. Upon this simple reasoning I built this trio for clarinet, cello and piano in the early days of my arrival in Paris in 1984.
