et ready to wiggle and giggle, because it’s World Penguin Day today (25 April)! Our fabulous, flippered friends manage to be beautiful as well as hilarious! When you think of penguins you probably think of emperor penguins first, but there are many more types of penguin. Scientists aren’t sure how many types there are, but they think there are around 17 to 19 different species. Galapagos penguins live far from the ice, in the cool waters surrounding the Galapagos Islands near Ecuador. And the world’s smallest penguins – little blue penguins – live in Australia and New Zealand. These pint-sized penguins are just 33cm tall and are so small they’re known as fairy penguins. Unfortunately, many penguin species are endangered. Climate change is a big threat to penguins that live on ice, such as the lovable emperor penguins and the feisty Adélie penguins. These iconic ice-dwellers depend on sea ice so they can access food and have a place to breed. But rising temperatures mean that this crucial ice is melting, which could have devastating effects on the lives of many penguins. Plastic pollution and a lack of fish in the oceans they hunt in are also big problems.
There's a Percy the Penguin hidden on every page of this week's comic. See if you can find them all!
You can become a penguin pal and help save the lives of some of nature’s most amazing creatures. Visit wwf.org.uk to learn more about the animals that need your help and ways that you can get involved.
I love penguins – they’re so cute and cuddly! Or are they? I’ve been swotting up on penguins and I’ve learnt that some of them aren’t as innocent as they look. Some penguins are criminals! Don’t believe me? Head to YouTube and type ‘Criminal Penguin’ – you should find a clip of an Adélie penguin stealing rocks from his neighbour’s nest to use to build his own. When criminal penguin spots another penguin nicking rocks from his nest, he goes nuts and chases him off! Two things came to mind while I watched this clip. One was Luke 6:31, when Jesus reminds us to treat people the way we want to be treated. The other was Matthew 5:43–44 when Jesus teaches us that we should love our enemies as well as our neighbours. That means we should love others and be kind, even if they do try to nick our rocks!

READ THE COMMENT BELOW ABOUT SHARING THE GOOD NEWS OF JESUS WITH OTHERS
Jesus Lives! Pass It On…
I
n this week’s cartoon Bible story we see Jesus appear to the disciples and prove to them that he really is alive. The disciples were scared when Jesus first appeared, but who wouldn’t be? If somebody I thought was dead appeared in front of me I’d be pretty scared too – even if they’d already told me they would rise from the dead. Just seeing wasn’t enough for the disciples, though. Jesus had to prove he was real, so he did things that only a living person could do. He let them touch his skin and his body to prove that he was there, he showed them the wounds he got
says Nathan Bright
when he died on the cross and he even ate some fish. Once Jesus had convinced them he was alive he told them they should go and tell everyone what they had seen – as if they wouldn’t! We love to share good news with our friends and family, and if it’s really good news we’ll tell anyone! Jesus being alive is really good news. We need to share it with our friends and our families and anyone else we meet! This can be a scary thing to do, though. This week, ask God to help you know that Jesus really is alive. Once we understand this exciting news for ourselves, we’ll want to share it with everyone else!
INITIAL INITIATIVE Write down the first letter of each picture below and arrange them to make two words that describe the kind of information we like to share with others.

Selected verses from
Psalm 91
The Bible book of Psalms is a collection of songs that help us to tell God how we’re feeling – whether we’re happy, excited, worried or sad. There are psalms praising and thanking God, asking for his help and reminding us that, no matter what, we can always trust him. So however you’re feeling, dig in! There’s sure to be a psalm that’s just right for you.
Scary things sometimes happen but when you’re afraid you can run to God. In this psalm God is described as a safe place, who is stronger than a stone castle and more loving than a mother bird that hides her chicks under her wings to protect them. No matter what’s going on in your life, you can always trust God to look after you.
You can go to God Most High to hide. You can go to God All-Powerful for protection. I say to the Lord, ‘You are my place of safety, my fortress. My God, I trust in you.’ God will save you from hidden dangers. You can go to him for protection. He will cover you like a bird spreading its wings over its babies. You can trust him to surround and protect you like a shield. The Lord says, ‘If someone trusts me, I will save them. I will protect my followers who call to me for help. When my followers call to me, I will answer them. I will be with them when they are in trouble. I will rescue them and honour them. I will give my followers a long life and show them my power to save.’ (Easy-to-Read Version)
Dear God,
Thank you that I can trust you. Protect me from danger. Help me to remember that you love me and want to take care of me.
Amen.

An emoji was chosen as the word of the year in 2015! At the end of every year different dictionaries choose the most important word people have used to communicate with one another. Five years ago the Oxford English Dictionary chose the emoji of a smiling face with tears of laughter because so many people were using emojis instead of words to communicate their feelings.

Learning through fun at home Lots of you will be off school at the moment as most of them are shut to try to stop the spread of coronavirus. While you’re stuck at home you might be struggling to keep entertained. So we thought you might appreciate some ideas to keep you busy during this challenging time. They’re all easy to do at home and link in with the subjects you might have been learning in school.
Computing
Have you ever sent an email before? They’re used by people all over the world to communicate digitally. We’d love to hear from you by email. Ask your parents or guardians to help you write an email about what you, your family or your church have been up to during the last few weeks. And with your parents’ or guardians’ permission you could also send some photos. Our email address is kidsalive@salvationarmy.org.uk. We can’t wait to hear from you!

Geography
In geography lessons you probably learn about a massive range of different things, including what the Earth is made of, how different people around the world live and why earthquakes happen. Have you learnt about volcanoes yet? Whether you have or not we hope you enjoy seeing what a volcanic eruption might look like using this home experiment. For the eruption experiment you’ll need cardboard or play dough, a tray, two cups, baking soda, washing up liquid, water, vinegar and red food colouring. Here’s what to do.
2
1
Once you’ve built your volcano, place it on a tray and put the tray somewhere your parents or guardians don’t mind the possibility of mess! Outside would be the best option if possible.
Make a volcano to fit around your cup. You could use cardboard or play dough, as long as you leave a large enough hole at the top to pour liquids into.
3
Pour water into your cup so that it’s about two thirds full.
4
Add three tablespoons of baking soda to the water. Then add one teaspoon of washing up liquid and a couple of drops of red food colouring.
5
Pour some vinegar into your other cup. Then slowly pour it into your volcano until it starts to foam up and erupt!
Music
Here’s a way you can link geography with music – look online for other countries national anthems. Listen to the different languages and try to hear the different instruments they use. Here are a few to get you started. The British national anthem is ‘God Save the Queen’, France’s is ‘La Marseillaise’, the USA’s is ‘The StarSpangled Banner’, Brazil’s is ‘Hino Nacional Brasileiro’ and Japan’s is ‘Kimigayo’.
After you’ve got some inspiration, how about writing the lyrics to your own anthem? It can represent your family! Check out next week’s KA! World for more ideas to keep on learning!

Palm Sunday Ready!
Here’s a picture of Jenni, Darcie and Eryn from Sutton Salvation Army showing how they were Palm Sunday ready! Jenni asked for a palm leaf to be painted on her forehead and Darcie wanted to look like one of the angry people in the crowd. Like many children throughout the UK, their church building is closed for the time being. However, the church is still going strong and its members enjoy ‘meeting up’ with their friends and family during an online meeting every Sunday morning. Ahead of Palm Sunday’s meeting the young people were sent activity packs that included instructions on how to make palm leaves from hand shapes and thumbs down shapes on sticks. This helped them to join in an interactive prayer time when they were encouraged to wave their palm leaves for the things they are thankful for and hold up thumbs down for things that might be making them feel sad or angry. During the meeting there was also a visit from Daniel the Donkey who told the Palm Sunday story from his point of view, as well as an interactive Bible reading, during which the kids had to listen out for certain words and perform particular actions when they heard them.
