eople have been sharing stories since before you, your parents, guardians or grandparents were born. Even before your great-great-great-great grandparents were born! Stories were shared before TV, radio or even books were invented and there are stories drawn on cave walls using pictures that are believed to be around 4,500 years old! So much of what we know about history is because of people writing or sharing tales, so it’s really important that we share stories about our lives too. What story have you got to share? National Share-a-Story Month is a celebration of the power of storytelling. This year’s theme is the Planet We Share, which includes stories about the people and animals that live on Earth, as well as the state of the environment. The world we live in is pretty different right now, isn’t it? What a perfect start for a story! And a great opportunity to connect with the family and friends you can’t see at the moment. Here are some ideas for how you can take part in some storytelling. Write a story and post it to someone who lives on their own.
Draw your story using pictures, just like the ones on cave walls.
Record yourself reading your favourite story and send it to a friend.
Ask your parents, guardians or grandparents to tell you a story from their childhood.
Visit fcbg.org.uk/national-share-a-story-month/ for more information on National Share-a-Story Month
Whether it comes in the form of a book, comic or film, I just love a good story. My absolute favourite way to hear a story is through conversation with friends and family. Only recently my dad had me in stitches telling me a story about something daft that he’d done. Something I actually like about this weird lockdown situation are the great stories we’re hearing about the unusual and extraordinary things people are doing. The story of Captain Tom Moore is just one that springs to mind – the war veteran who raised millions of pounds by walking 100 laps of his garden. So what cool things are you doing during lockdown? You must have a story to tell. If so, we’d love to hear from you – just email us at kidsalive@salvationarmy.org.uk. If you don’t want to share it with us, share it with someone else – write a letter, make a phone call, video call someone. However you do it, share a story with someone – you’ll make their day!

READ THE COMMENT BELOW ABOUT FINDING WAYS TO THANK GOD FOR HIS EVERLASTING LOVE
It Goes On and On and On! says Justin Reeves
A
fter reading this week’s Bible story, I’ve got the song ‘He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands’ in my head. It’s a bit annoying, because it’s one of those songs that can go on and on and on and… Don’t get me wrong, I love a good sing-song. In fact, singing and playing music are two of my favourite ways to worship God – but ‘He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands’ wouldn’t make it into my top 40 favourite songs to sing. Singing is just one way of praising God, but there are loads of other ways we can worship him too. Talking to God in prayer is a great way to let God know how wonderful you think he is and how grateful you are for everything he’s given you.
Some people – such as the writer of Psalm 136 – write poems or songs to worship God. Others write stories, dance, draw, paint, carve, sculpt, speak, care, love… the list goes on. I have friends who aim to make their whole lives an act of worship through the way they live, how they treat other people and in the choices they make. I realise that some of you might have moments when you wonder where God is and why he’s letting bad things happen. I promise you, he is with us and he is helping in those situations too. God is good and his love goes on and on and on and… However you choose to do it, make sure you remember to give him thanks.
SCRAMBLED SCRIPTURE In your Bible, look up Psalm 136:1–9* to help you put the verses below into the correct order. (If you don’t have a Bible go to biblegateway.com and type Psalm 136:1–9 into the search box.)
A the sun to govern the day, His love endures for ever.
s, F to him who alone does great wonder His love endures for ever. G Give thanks to the God of gods. His love endure s for ever. H who by his understanding made the heavens, His love endures for ever.
B Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. His love endures for ever.
C Give thanks to the Lo rd of lords: His love endures for ev er.
D the moon and stars to govern the night; His love endures for ever.
I who made th e great lights – His love endure s for ever.
rth upon the waters, E who spread out the ea His love endures for ever. Answers

Selected verses from
Psalm 119
The Bible book of Psalms is a collection of songs that help us to tell God how we’re feeling – whether we’re happy, excited, worried or sad. There are psalms praising and thanking God, asking for his help and reminding us that, no matter what, we can always trust him. So however you’re feeling, dig in! There’s sure to be a psalm that’s just right for you.
In the Bible God’s given us rules, such as the Ten Commandments, to help guide the choices we make. By following them we can have the best relationships possible with God, our family and friends. Sticking to God’s rules may not always be easy but it’s well worth it. They keep us safe, help us to be better people and help us to share God’s love with others.
How can a young person live a pure life? By obeying your word. I try with all my heart to serve you. Help me obey your commands. I study your teachings very carefully so that I will not sin against you. Lord, you are worthy of praise! Teach me your laws. I will repeat the laws we have heard from you. I enjoy following your rules as much as others enjoy great riches. I will study your instructions. I will give thought to your way of life. I enjoy your laws. I will not forget your word. (Easy-to-Read Version)
Dear God,
As I read the Bible, help me to understand your way for living and to do my best to follow it.
Amen.

Learning through fun at home Lots of you will be off school at the moment as most of them are shut to try to stop the spread of coronavirus. While you’re stuck at home you might be struggling to keep entertained. So we thought you might appreciate some ideas to keep you busy during this challenging time. They’re all easy to do at home and link in with the subjects you might have been learning in school.
History
Have you heard of VE Day? It stands for Victory in Europe Day and it was the day in 1945 when the Second World War ended in Europe. There were massive celebrations, because it had been a horrible time when many people had died, so everyone was happy it was finally over. This Friday (8 May) is the 75th anniversary of VE Day. Although many of the celebrations that were planned can’t go ahead, that doesn’t mean you can’t learn more about this part of history. Below are some quiz questions about the Second World War to see how much you know. Ask your parents, grandparents or guardians for help, or do some research online if you don’t know any answers.
1. in what year did the Second World War start?
3. Many children had to move away from their families, because of the risk of bombing. What was this called?
4. Lots of British troops had to be evacuated from Dunkirk as they were stranded. But what country is Dunkirk in?

Design and Technology There were lots of different planes used during the Second World War, including Spitfires. Why not make some paper aeroplanes and use pens, pencils or paints to make them look like Spitfires. Here’s a photo of one to help you. Or if you want a bigger project, find some old cardboard boxes and try to make a spitfire that you can sit in!

Have you read about National Share-a-Story Month on page 3? Doesn’t it sound cool? As it’s Share-a-Story Month, there’s no better time to practise your writing skills. Why not write a story about your lockdown adventures? Or create a whole new world for your characters to live in? The possibilities are endless! Once you’ve written your story, you could record yourself reading it and send it to your family and friends!
