TTopping the bill is a supersonic RAF Typhoon. History lovers will be sure to get a lift from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight with its Lancaster, Spit and Hurricane. And the Red Arrows will cruise in their famous Diamond Nine before breaking into death-defying manoeuvres, including Opposition Barrel, Detonator and the ever-popular Heart. It’s not only the RAF on show –propeller-powered Team Raven and AeroSuperBatics Wingwalkers will wow the crowds with their aerial antics too.

Those of you living further south might like to head to the Eastbourne International Airshow. They’ll feature many of the same aircraft, plus the British Army’s Tigers Parachute Display Team. And there’ll be loads of fun on the ground with cool classic cars, stunt displays and fairground rides.

There are plenty of other air shows to choose from, so keep your eyes and ears open for an air display near you.

fun soaring over the Devon countryside. But the coolest thing I’ve ever done is choosing to follow Jesus. My list of cool things is pretty cool, but not as cool as having a friend who sticks by you through the highs and lows of life and always points you in the right direction. I can honestly say my life would be nowhere near as good as it has been without Jesus being in it. Maybe it’s a cool choice you need to make too.

God Knows! says Justin Reeves

I wonder what your favourite drink is. Mine’s Diet Coke Caffeine Free. I drink loads of the stuff. I probably drink too much of it and I should drink more water.

That reminds me, when I was young and complained I was thirsty, my mum would always say, ‘There’s plenty of water in the tap!’ That would annoy me a bit because I think she knew that I was really saying, ‘I want some squash or zzy pop!’ To me, water was the most boring drink in the whole world ever.

That’s the thing with parents and carers – they’re really good at knowing the difference between things we want and things we need. My mum knew

I wanted squash or zzy pop, but more importantly she knew her thirsty son needed a drink of water.

In this week’s cartoon Bible story the Israelites were acting a bit like little Justin Reeves who thought he knew what was best for him. They seemed to have forgotten how bad life was in Egypt and how God had rescued them from a place and situation they hated. Thankfully, their parent in Heaven knew what was best for them and came up with a plan.

It’s easy to get annoyed with God when things aren’t going the way we want. But something I’ve learned is that God is pretty good at making sure we have what we need. I wonder what you need from God. Ask him for it and see what happens.

Explorer 6

Explorer 6 was launched by NASA on 8 August 1959. Six days after take-off, the rst photo of Earth from space was taken by the spacecraft. The image was of clouds over an area of the central Paci c Ocean. Compared to images taken now the quality was poor, but the process of taking this photograph was very important for the research into creating better camera equipment to take clearer photographs from space.

Explorer 6 had four solar panels that looked like wings coming out of it, but only three of the panels worked. This meant it only had 63 per cent of the power it was supposed to have when in space. Even though Explorer 6 was not as powerful as expected it stayed in contact with a space station in Hawaii for 55 days giving NASA useful data to help with the future Apollo Moon missions.

Living

If you’re a kid living in England or Wales, you probably think it’s way too early to start talking about going back to school. However, Scottish children will be lining up for class again next week, so it’s the perfect time to talk about being prepared for a new school year.

If you’ve still got a few weeks until you’re back at the school gates, pop this issue somewhere safe for when you need it.

Back to School Making Friends

Making friends is a big part of school life. Some friends are good for having a giggle with, while others are great for sharing hobbies or interests with. Friends can also be the people you trust the most with your thoughts and feelings. The number of friends you have isn’t important. What matters is having friends you feel close to, who can support you and who won’t try to

Making friends isn’t always easy, especially if you’re a bit shy or you’re a young carer and don’t have much time. But don’t worry, there are some top tips on page 13 to hopefully make things a little easier.

a healthy and an active lifestyle and caring for your physical, mental and spiritual well-being.

Share

Lots of friendships start because people have things in common, such as liking the same music, football team or books. Keep an eye (or ear!) out for people who have similar hobbies or interests to you. They might be good people to start friendships with. You could also try sharing some of your favourite songs, TV programmes or books with others too. They can be great ways to start conversations.

Ask and Listen ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?

Questions are a good way to start a conversation with someone new. Ask someone questions about them to show you’re interested. You could also ask them questions about their favourite things.

It’s also important to listen. A good listener lets the other person have their turn to talk. Try not to get distracted by other things while they’re talking and try to add something to the conversation when they’ve nished to show you’ve listened.

Body Language

As well as communicating with our words, we can also use our body language. Using positive body language can help when making friends. Smile while you talk to people, speak clearly and con dently, look people in the eye and try not to cover your mouth with your hands when you speak.

You can also show them you’re listening by nodding your head or saying things such as ‘OK’ or ‘Yeah, I like those things too’.

Compliments

Being complimented can be a great feeling. It also feels good to compliment someone else. Telling someone else you like their hairstyle, clothes, skills or sense of humour can help build a stronger friendship.

Remember, if you’re feeling anxious or worried about going back to school or starting a new school, talk to your parents or carers so they can try to help
