What do you do when you feel sad, worried or frightened? Perhaps you talk to your parents or carers, an uncle or auntie, another trusted grown-up, a sibling or your bestie.

Kitty sets off into the city to find out where her best friend is today. While searching, Kitty discovers Peter – a wild teenager who is pick-pocketing to help Middle Eastern refugees in a shelter. With Peter’s help Kitty travels east to find out what happened to Anne all those years ago.

Something I find helpful is keeping a prayer journal – it’s a good way to focus on what I want to talk to Jesus about. Even better, I can look back and see the things that Jesus has helped me with. Why not give it a try? And remember to tell Jesus about the good stuff as well as the things that are worrying you.

Anne Frank and her family were Jewish, so when the Nazis occupied Amsterdam during the Second World War they had to go into hiding. While in hiding, Anne wrote her famous diary addressed to her imaginary friend Kitty.

3

Not only does Anne Frank’s diary give us an insight into what her time in hiding was like, it shows that keeping a diary is a helpful way to express your thoughts and feelings. You can find out how keeping a diary or a journal can help you by turning to pages 12 and 13.

It’s now 75 years later and at the Anne Frank House museum the glass case that protects the famous diary shatters on a stormy night. A drop of ink runs down the pages and a 14-year-old girl comes to life … Kitty!

With the answers she was looking for, Kitty heads back to Amsterdam to make sure everyone knows the message of hope and generosity that Anne left behind.

We Need says Justin Reeves My family has just returned from a fantastic holiday. During our trip we splashed in the sea, swam in rivers, watched amazing sunsets, gazed at the moon and stars and marvelled at amazing landscapes.Wesawloads of wildlife including lions, wolves, monkeys, giraffes, rhinos – not in the wild, but in a safari park! While we were out and about we spied buzzards, kestrels, sand martins, ponies, sheep, cattle, foxes, rabbits, crabs, minnows, dragonflies, butterflies, pond skaters, beautiful flowers and towering trees. Again and again we were reminded of God’s spectacular creation. A few years ago, I was struggling and, I’m sorry to admit, I started to doubt that God existed. I chatted to a friend about it and he reminded me of some words found in Romans 1:20: ‘For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature’ (New Living Translation). Sometimes when we need God’s help, we want him to do something spectacular. It’s easy to forget that everyday things are part of God’s spectacular creation. From blue skies to the depths of the ocean and from the weirdest wild animals to our friends and family who love and care for us – God made them all. He knows exactly what we need to get through life and does everything he can to provide those things for us. How spectacular is that? READ TwosIn Opposite are words that have been split in two. FLY WITH ME

Nowadays lots of people do something called journaling. This is like writing a diary, but it’s a little less structured. You don’t have to ‘journal’ every day and you can draw images, patterns or squiggles or write lists, poems or songs. Anything you like.

Thoughts and Feelings

The Joy of Journaling

Is your head full of questions, ideas, stories or concerns? So much so that maybe you don’t know what to do with them all. Sometimes it can be difficult to put our feelings and thoughts into words, especially when we feel angry, sad or anxious. Get Started

Journals aren’t just fun, they’re also really good for mental health too. They can help you manage anxiety, reduce stress and cope with difficult feelings. They’re a safe space to share your thoughts and feelings.

There are also special journaling books you can buy too, but you don’t need one.

The best thing about writing a diary or journaling is that you don’t need much to get started. Just a notebook or sketchbook and some pens or pencils are enough. You can also use paint or stickers, or glue in photos of things that remind you of good times. Living a healthy and an active lifestyle and caring for your physical, mental and spiritual well-being.

Writing a diary is a great way to express everything that’s on your mind. Anne Frank used her diary to talk to her imaginary friend, Kitty, when she was trapped in the annex of the building where her father worked in Amsterdam. This helped her channel her thoughts and be creative. And thanks to her writing, we know so much about what that time in history was like for children like Anne.

Make a top five list. This could be your five favourite foods, books, songs or jokes. Or list the best things about you. Write an ‘All About Me’ section. This can include things such as your name, age, where you live or who’s in your family.

Write about what you’ve done that doodlescolourfulCreateday.out

A blank page can be a little intimidating if you’re not sure what you want to write. However, remember that a journal isn’t ‘work’, it’s just for fun. There’s no pressure to write in it every day or for it to have perfect grammar. You can write or draw as much or as little as you want. It can be whatever you want it to be.

Go on a nature walk and record the things you see. Use words, drawings, photos or paintings. Write down the things you’re worried about and how they make you feel. You can also journal using a camera, video recorder or smartphone. Rather than writing or drawing your thoughts, you could take photos to stick in a book or video record how you feel and edit your clips together on a computer.

Draw a bookshelf with blank books on it. Write in the names of the books you’ve read as you finish them.

Draw a picture of your favourite holiday.

Write a letter to your best friend. Design an invention. Write a review of your favourite book or draw your favourite character. Colour in the Fly With Me Colouring on page 11 and stick it into your journal. List what you’re excited about happening during the rest of 2022. Write down three things you’re grateful for that day. Go Digital However you choose to journal, have fun!

If you’re struggling to start your journal here are some prompts that might get your creative juices flowing…

Pukka Prompts

Write down the things that you want to pray to God about.
