Get ready to see the Little Mermaid as you’ve never seen her before! Disney is releasing a brand new live-action version of the old favourite animated classic.

Ariel is a beautiful and courageous young mermaid with a thirst for adventure. She’s the youngest daughter of King Triton … and the most challenging! She’s not happy with her life as it is and longs to nd out more about the world beyond the sea. Her feelings about life on land get even stronger when she meets handsome Prince Eric and saves him from a shipwreck during a terrible storm. Unfortunately, mermaids are forbidden to interact with humans, so her dad is not happy!

Sebastian the crab tries to show her how life is better under the sea, but Ariel knows she must follow her heart. So she makes a deal with the sea witch, Ursula, that allows her to experience life on land. However, the deal comes at a cost and ultimately puts her life and her father’s crown in danger. Can Ariel and her friends, Sebastian and Flounder, put things right?

Something amazing happened this week. I got to walk the red carpet at the UK premiere of The Little Mermaid

It was an interesting insight into a very different ‘world’ to mine. I felt very out of place.

In the flm, Ariel sings ‘Part of Your World’. It’s about her dreams of living on land. She longs to experience walking down streets on feet, and feeling the warmth of fre. Eventually, she gets her wish, but it comes at a cost – she gives up her voice. This got me thinking about how Jesus became part of our world. That too came at a cost – he gave up a place in Heaven and eventually died so that we could one day be part of his world. In the meantime, Jesus wants to be part of our everyday lives and help us to live the way he knows is best for us.

The Best Dream and Promise

What’s the best dream you’ve ever had? The best one I can remember is my brother and I were secret agents on the run from enemy spies. We got chased down an alley with no obvious way to escape –we checked the doors around us, but they were all locked. Just then, I noticed a cord on my backpack that said, ‘PULL’. So I pulled it and my backpack turned into a ying Smart car!

What do you think of Jacob’s dream in the cartoon Bible story opposite? I think it’s pretty cool. Not just because there’s a stairway to Heaven, angels and God himself in it, but because it included some great news for Jacob.

The cartoon shows Jacob quite literally at rock bottom – exhausted, all alone and in fear for his life. That’s the moment when God spoke to Jacob and reminded him of the promise he made to Jacob’s father, Isaac, and his grandfather, Abraham. God tells him that he still has a plan for him and he’ll always be with him.

I’m sure there have been times when you’ve been super worried about stuff; you’ve convinced yourself you’re in so much trouble you’ll never be forgiven; or you’ve just felt as though no one cares about you. The good news is that God’s promise to Jacob is God’s promise to you. God loves you, has great plans for you and will always be with you!

In the Bible there are incredible stories of young people choosing to trust God. In return, God used them to do extraordinary things. As you read about these young people, be inspired because Jesus is calling you to make a difference too.

David – Part One

What Happened?

God sent Samuel the priest to Bethlehem, to anoint (rub with oil and bless as God’s chosen person) one of Jesse’s sons as Israel’s new king. Samuel saw seven of Jesse’s sons, all of whom were strong and handsome. But God told Samuel, he was more concerned about a person’s heart rather than how they looked. Finally, the youngest son, David, who’d been taking care of the sheep was brought in and God told Samuel to anoint him.

What Can We Learn?

God chose David to be king because he knew that David loved him with his whole heart. God trusted that David would make the right choices and be a great leader to the Israelites.

Asteroids

Asteroids are small lumps of rock that orbit the Sun and they are seriously old! These mysterious space rocks are leftovers from the formation of our solar system, which experts believe happened around 4.6 billion years ago. There are loads of asteroids in our solar system and most of them hang out in the main asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter.

Unlike planets, which are spherical, asteroids come in all shapes and sizes. Vesta, the largest asteroid in our solar system measures 329 miles in diameter. At the other end of the scale there are asteroids that are just 30 metres wide. Each asteroid is made of different stuff – some are made of clay while others contain metals, such as nickel and iron.

Living a healthy and an active lifestyle and caring for your physical, mental and spiritual well-being.

The Wildlife Trusts’ 30 Days Wild

Can you do one wild thing every day for an entire month? Held every year throughout June, 30 Days Wild is the Wildlife Trust’s annual nature challenge.

The challenge is free to sign up to and there are loads of suggestions for getting out in the wild of nature and appreciating its awesomeness. Whether your home is in the city, on a farm, by the beach or somewhere else, it’s a challenge for anyone of any age.

Your daily wild activities can be anything you like, but if you’d like some wild ideas, The Wildlife Trusts’ 30 Days Wild pack has plenty for you. This year the adventure ideas move through ve different themes. The themes will help guide you and your family or friends to take on the wildest month of the year!

Week One

This week it’s all about tuning into your senses. So there are challenges such as: smelling freshly cut grass, listening to a buzzing bee, feeling the bark on a tree and searching for a pink ower.

Week Two

In week two it’s time to get moving.

Week Three

This week’s theme is learn something new and it also includes a very special weekend. Take part by joining a minibeast hunt, naming a wild ower or discovering ve facts about your favourite animal.

You can also join in with the Big Wild Weekend, which is taking place on 17 and 18 June. Over the weekend Wildlife Trusts locations around the UK will be holding special events to bring people closer to the natural world. There will also be free online events on The Wildlife Trusts’ website. If that isn’t enough, there’s also the Big Wild Camp-out to enjoy. Set up a tent in your garden or get creative and camp indoors!

Week Four

The focus for week four is helping nature and giving something back. Make a bee home or log pile for beetles, splash water into a shallow dish for hedgehogs to drink or sow some wild owers.

Remember, you can request some wild flower seeds to grow some bee-friendly flowers by emailing resources@salvationarmy.org.uk before 3 June. Seeds are available on a first-come first-served basis.

Week Five Go Wild!

Last, but not least, week ve is about emotional connection to nature. As nature becomes a part of your daily routine you’ll nd a stronger connection to it. Scientists believe that spending time in nature can make you feel happier and healthier. So we hope you have a fantastic month!

Your family can sign up to 30 Days Wild by visiting wildlifetrusts.org/30dayswild There are postal packs or digital packs to choose from and they include plenty of resources to help you on your wild adventure. Use your wallchart to plan your adventures, have a go at the wild wordsearch and learn more about wild bees. You don’t need to follow the schedule exactly. Adapt the activities or swap the order to make it work for your family.

You can also take part as a school or church group, so pass this information on to your teachers or church leaders so more people can enjoy going wild!

Easter was a little while ago now, but it’s always nice to see a Happy Easter Colouring from one of our readers. This egg-cellent one is from Ania, age 9.

This Water is Life Colouring was completed by Erin, age 8. It’s a great reminder that water is so important for our world to survive and thrive.
