When I was a kid the children’s choir at my church sang a song called ‘I Nearly Forgot to Say Thank You’. It begins with children singing the kind of prayers that some of you might say: ‘Please help me pass my exams OK’; ‘Please help me get into the football team’; ‘Please, we could do with a new TV’. Someone then asked the children if they’d forgotten something. You’ve guessed it, they’d forgotten to say thank you. The song continued with a list of thank yous for flowers, butterflies, stars, rainbows, the sun, the snow… When we pray it can be easy to ask God for a load of stuff we want, but it’s important to show God that we’re grateful for the things he’s already given us. This National Thank You Week make an extra-special effort to say thanks to God for all the good things in your life.

ere’s a quick quiz. Question 1: approximately how many kilometres is Earth from the Sun? A: 169.6 million; B: 159.6 million or C: 149.6 million. Question 2: in which mythical kingdom are Frozen and Frozen II set? A: Farendelle; B: Arenbelle or C: Arendelle. Question 3: which British football club won the European Cup first? A: Manchester United; B: Liverpool or C: Celtic. How did you get on? (Check your answers below.) Are you a fan of quizzes? I love quizzes! Even if I don’t know the answers, I still enjoy them, because I learn new things. Someone else who liked to learn new things is Nicodemus – the guy who goes looking for Jesus in this week’s cartoon Bible story. Nicodemus was a Pharisee, so he would have known loads of stuff about

says Justin Reeves

God and the Scriptures. However, he didn’t know or understand everything. For a start, he didn’t really know who Jesus was or understand the point of his teaching and miracles. During his time quizzing Jesus, Nicodemus found out something amazing: God loves him so much that he sent his only son from Heaven to Earth, not only to show him the way to live, but to give him the opportunity to live in Heaven for ever. All he had to do was believe in Jesus. Do you want to learn something cool? Jesus loves you too! Not only does he want you to live life his way (because following him is the very best way to live your life), but he wants you to know that one day you can live with him in Heaven for ever. You just need to believe in him.

Quiz answers: 149.6 million. Arendelle. Celtic.

Selected verses from

Psalm 148

Shout praises to the Lord! Shout the Lord’s praises in the highest heavens. All of you angels, and all who serve him above, come and offer praise. Sun and moon and all of you bright stars, come and offer praise. Sea monsters and the deep sea, fire and hail, snow and frost, and every stormy wind, come praise the Lord! All mountains and hills, fruit trees and cedars, every wild and tame animal, all reptiles and birds, come praise the Lord! Every king and every ruler, all nations on Earth, every man and every woman, young people and old, come praise the Lord! All creation, come praise the name of the Lord. Praise his name alone.

The Bible book of Psalms is a collection of songs that help us to tell God how we’re feeling – whether we’re happy, excited, worried or sad. There are psalms praising and thanking God, asking for his help and reminding us that, no matter what, we can always trust him. So however you’re feeling, dig in! There’s sure to be a psalm that’s just right for you.

The world around us is magnificent, isn’t it? Just as he did with humans, God created every part of nature with so much thought and care – he left no detail out. From angels in Heaven to crawling ants and everything in between – it was all created in love by God. So let’s sing or shout and join in with all of creation to offer the Lord our highest praise!

Contemporary English Version

Dear God,

You are amazing, powerful and awesome! Thank you for creating all of nature’s wonders. We love you!

Amen.

Here are some gobsmacking facts about practically everything, to boggle your brain or wow your mates…

The Statue of Liberty was used as a lighthouse for 16 years. France gave the famous monument to the USA in 1886 to commemorate the friendship of the people of France and the USA. The president of the USA decided the statue – known as Lady Liberty – would operate as a lighthouse and lights were put in her torch and around her feet. Lady Liberty was a working lighthouse until 1902.

hey’re alligators and investigators… it’s time to meet the InvestiGators! Mango and Brash are a super spy alligator duo who star in their own brand new series called InvestiGators. If you love comics and cartoons you’ll love author John Patrick Green’s book, which is out in August – we’re giving you a sneak peek preview, as these books won’t be in the shops for a few weeks! Mango and Brash live deep underground in the sewers. Armed with their Very Exciting Spy Technology techniques, the crime-busting pair travel through the toilet system to fight the forces of evil and undercover criminals. In their first adventure Chef Mustachio has disappeared and someone’s been stealing his recipes – can Mango and Brash find him and the thief? Once you’ve finished reading, you can even learn how to draw Mango and Brash with John Patrick Green’s top tips at the back of the book! For your opportunity to win a copy of InvestiGators, answer the question below and email your full name, age, address and answer to kidsalive@salvationarmy.org.uk – remember to put ‘InvestiGators Competition’ in the subject box. Unfortunately not every day is sunny during summer. But that doesn’t mean we can’t have fun! Each week we’re going to suggest a fun, rainy day idea that will mean downpours don’t result in down moods.

Make A Time Capsule Drawings

Time capsules are containers that hold items that have special meaning to people during a certain period of their life. For example, a summer 2020 time capsule would include items that remind someone of what this summer was like in years to come. You don’t need to buy a fancy box, you could just use an old shoebox (although if you want to bury a time capsule you’ll need something more hard-wearing!) Here are some ideas for what to put in your capsule.
