History is being made this weekend! King Charles III is being crowned today (6 May) alongside Camilla, the Queen Consort. From street parties to concerts, this will be a weekend full of celebrations!

The Coronation service will begin at 11am at Westminster Abbey. During the service, the crown of St Edward will be placed on the King’s head. Afterwards, the King and Queen Consort will return to Buckingham Palace in a Coronation Procession, alongside other members of the Royal Family.

Music will play a big part in this weekend’s celebrations. As well as special music in the Coronation service, there’s also a Coronation Concert at Windsor Castle on Sunday 7 May. This will include music, dance and theatre performances and feature superstars such as Take That and Katy Perry.

Coverage of the Coronation service and the Coronation Concert will be on BBC One and iPlayer. Many locations across the UK will also be putting up big screens for people to gather together and watch the weekend’s events.

In Frozen, on the morning of Queen Elsa’s coronation, Anna oversleeps. A servant wakes her and reminds her it’s her sister’s coronation. Still half asleep, Anna says. ‘My sister’s conoration … IT’S CORONATION DAY!’

My daughters are really diffcult to wake in the mornings! That’s unless something exciting is happening. On those days, they wake up super early and can’t wait to get ready. I wonder how members of the Royal Family will react when waking up today.

On a recent KA! JAM spread, we thought about Jesus’ promise to return. In Matthew 24:36–51, Jesus reminds his disciples that no one knows exactly when he’ll come back. He tells them to make sure they’re always ready. So, are you excited and ready for the day Jesus returns as king or are you being a bit of a sleepyhead like Anna? I know which one I’d prefer to be.

Trust in God’s Promises

They say that moving house is one of the most stressful things you can do. Thankfully, it’s been a few years since my family moved house, but I can con rm moving home is stressful!

One of the things that makes moving house stressful is that it’s unsettling. For weeks after we moved, our daughters kept asking when we were going home. They understood eventually, but it took them quite a while to realise that the strange house we were staying in was our home.

So I can only imagine how Abram felt when one day God told him to move his household to a strange place miles away from home. And this didn’t happen just once – God told Abram to up sticks and move

The reason we moved house is because we wanted our family to live somewhere better – the house we moved to has more space than our last house, the garden’s bigger and it’s on a nicer road. But why did Abram keep on moving? He kept moving because he trusted God and God had promised a better life for him and his wife.

This story might have happened a long time ago, in a land far away, but it still reminds us to trust God with everything. We might not hear God speaking to us as Abram did, but God is always there for us. Just as he promised to look after Abram, he’s promised to look after us. And God always keeps his promises.

What Happened?

When Pharaoh ordered that all Hebrew baby boys should be killed, Moses’ mum hid him in a basket by the river. His sister, Miriam, watched over Moses until Pharaoh’s daughter found him. At that point, Miriam offered to nd someone to help look after Moses. Moses’ sister suggested their mum and Paraoh’s daughter paid her to look after Moses.

What Can We Learn?

Miriam took a courageous step to protect Moses from Pharaoh’s evil command. Miriam’s brave and quick actions meant that her family was reunited. God used her faith as part of his bigger plan and Moses grew up to lead the Israelites to freedom.

The cosmos or universe is so enormous and stupendous it’s mind-boggling! Here are some facts about space that are … well, cosmic!

Pluto

When is a planet not a planet? When the ‘planet’ is Pluto! Discovered by Clyde Tombaugh in 1930, Pluto’s name was suggested by Venetia Burney Phair – an 11-year-old from the United Kingdom. In 2006, new International Astronomical Union rules on what de nes a planet meant that poor little Pluto was downgraded to a dwarf planet.

Even though Pluto is smaller than Earth’s Moon, it has ve moons of its own. Its largest moon is Charon, and Pluto and Charon orbit each other like a double planet. Pluto is around 3.6 billion miles from the Sun. Its orbit lasts so long that one year on Pluto is the same as 248 Earth years. Pluto’s atmosphere is made up of nitrogen, methane and carbon monoxide and with temperatures as low as –238°C it’s far too cold for anything to live there.

Swimathon

The world’s largest annual fundraising swim is back this May. From 12–14 May organisers want to challenge as many people as possible to take part in Swimathon.

Cool Challenges

There are lots of different challenges to take on depending on your swimming ability. The Core Challenges include distances from 400m to 5km. It’s even possible to split the distances between friends or swim as part of a team. Why not take part as a family challenge? You can have up to ve members in a Swimathon team.

For advanced swimmers there are Supercharge Challenges. These include putting three 5km swims together to take on the Triple K or adding all the distances together to tackle the 30.9. Wowzers!

How to Take Part

All the information you need to take part in Swimathon can be found at swimathon.org. You can register for the challenges and nd venues where Swimathon events are taking place. Pick your distance, choose your date, nd a venue and go swimming! Remember to fundraise for a charity too. The cial charity partners for Swimathon are Cancer Research and Marie Curie.

If you’re not able to attend a Swimathon event between 12 and 14 May you can still join in the fun. The MySwimathon challenge is for people taking part in whatever venue they can, any time between 28 April and 21 May.

There is a registration fee to enter Swimathon, but it’s possible to take part in MySwimathon for free if you can fundraise £50 on a JustGiving web page set up by your parents or carers.

Just Keep Swimming

We’re not just telling you about Swimathon so you can take on a challenge and raise some money for a charity. We also want to tell you how incredible swimming is for your body and mind.

Swimming is sometimes described as ‘the perfect exercise’, because it’s a full-body workout that doesn’t put too much pressure on your joints (such as knees). Here are some of the bene ts you can get from regularly swimming...

Swimming builds strength and endurance in all your muscles.

Swimming also raises your heart rate and improves lung capacity.

Swimming is also fantastic for mental health. It can lift your mood and reduce stress levels.

The movement and stretching involved in swimming are also great for body exibility.

It’s also a great way to exercise for maintaining a healthy weight.

As well as all of that, swimming is super fun! Whether you’re swimming lengths from one end of a pool to the other or having a good splash around with friends, it’s fab.

Lesson Time

If you’re reading all this and thinking, but I don’t know how to swim, it’s never too late to learn. Find out where your local leisure centre is and ask your parents or carers about signing you up for lessons. Most do weekly children’s lessons for different abilities and some run special lessons during school holidays.

Take It To The Next Level

If you’ve completed your swimming lessons and you’re looking to take things to the next level, why not search for a swimming club near you? These are perfect for aspiring athletes. Who knows, maybe you could be the next Rebecca Adlington or Adam Peaty?
