R.I.P Nyeta Sasha Ninon Allen AKA "HAPPY Couture" (An Exceptional Designer) Legacy is defined as an amount of money or property left to someone in a will. Her ”legacy" is not measured in the amount of money but, in a valuable spirit, determination, strength, and most of all her giving heart. " Legacy. The word itself is so powerful because it is closure, a settlement to someone or to everyone. She was a gift to anyone who knew her. You are about to discover something of value to the human spirit that can be cherished and learned from her path and life’s works. Walking in the presences of someone Gifted, is such a awesome feeling, it's a journey uncontrolled with no set destination to the helpers of the gifted one. Happy Couture Oct 17,2020, my journey with Happy Couture began. It blossomed until her untimely departure back to the essence. Our early interactions were basic interactions on Facebook and other forms of social media. Sharing the Virgo spirit, we had identical understandings and our passion for fashion was the greatest picture. FASHION. Plain and simple. I was the Photographer and Happy Couture was the amazing visionary. The designer and stylist. I was amazed by her style and “crafts-womanship”. She would conceive a thought and move quickly to birth her vision. She would then transfer the vision to me as her photographer. Many photographers who do a lot of the planning would feel a sense of awkwardness because there is nothing to do but shoot to their heart’s desire. As I'm shooting, the bonding process is happening between us because she noticed my approach to my work. Instantly she just let go and allowed me to control each of her concepts. Letting go and trusting someone else with your work is a difficult process for a seasoned designer as herself. Presentation and perception is everything and was very important to her legacy. Legacy. Determined to fight cancer and not allow it to stop her, Happy mentioned to me her physical limitations. She was told that death was certain. Many never know the date their life will end. With this information, she was unfazed and pushed even harder. Death is a mere pause. Her story is much bigger than any fashion shoot, it's about her bravery and passion to finish the race. When people get a notice of imminent demise most would just give up. Some would even question, “Why am I here at this shoot?" or "Why, why, why me?!" But not Happy. She knew her time on earth was short and so she pushed because she had no time for delay. Reflecting on her statements about life and death, and me feeling suddenly sad, she would say, “Karl I'm sending you the next model” or “Don't cry for me!” She was just so special and on her journey. I was just a passenger along for the ride. The title “Legacy” came up from numerous conversations. She would ask me, "Do you think the world will say I gave enough?" And I would respond back with, "They may not until you are gone." Sometimes enough can never feel like enough until we stop breathing. Then we would continue to work. Work, work, and more work. We would go on to do several more shoots together. Each shoot would last for hours. We would begin in the early morning and sometimes end around 2am. Her creativity was never ending. Struggling and sickened from cancer, she was always resilient. It's strange but her energy was through the roof. She would run circles around me, making these awesome designs in the moment of inspiration. On November 6, 2020, after being discharged from the hospital Happy Couture met me in front of her studio. She was still wearing bloodstained clothing, a hospital band on her arm, and bandages were visible on her body. She was ready to create and make magic. This day was so amazing because she hopped on a sewing machine and did all the designs on the spot. She never complained or displayed any weaknesses. We had arranged to only shoot two models but Happy changed that plan quickly. More and more models arrived and she had a timeline. I watched her with intrigue and admiration as she dressed each and every model she invited to the photo shoot. She was a force and I'm just a passenger on the ride to her Legacy. On November 21,2020, we had our last shoot. She had been in the hospital awhile and when she was discharged home is where she went, The studio. It was her comfort zone, a place where she could release her Passion, and be free from pain and the thought of death. She refused to just lay down and would say, "I will when it's my time to die." She worked and pushed beauty and creativity even more. At times contemplating her on death, she remained unstoppable. She was alert and working in the studio and setting stuff up. If I mentioned an idea she would begin working right away. She was amazingly compassionate and focused. So inspirational and a testament of strength during times when many would just give up, lay down, and have a pity party. She was the Spark and pushed to get everything out of her team and the models she trained. She got things done. She was much more than talent. She was THE TRUTH! Her bravery, her knowing, and her understanding of time was amazing to watch. She was resolved in her inner peace. Her work is scattered around. Life is a process and even in death some learn nothing. Everyone is not going to be on the same journey and you are the visions you see for yourself. We are born to die. It is what we do within that time that counts. Do we take life for granted or do we make it count with every breath? Work hard. Create lasting bonds. Make impressions. Respect and honor. Love, laugh, and live like it is your last day with all the ones you love. Change the world and add sprinkles of goodness. I’ve learned a valuable lesson from this gifted Strong Black Woman and I'm here to do my part and work my tail off for Happy Couture’s work to be seen.
