I’ve always been in the health and beauty industry starting first as a massage therapist then an esthetician working in spas and as a laser tech then finally being a makeup artist. What do you not enjoy about being a MUA? There isn’t a lot I don’t like about it except when clients try to walk me through every step of the application and tell me too much how they’d like it and have to look at every stroke after its applied. I do my best work when I have the freedom to do my art. I love the clients that say just do whatever you want.

Meet Hair Artist Rachel Boroff Hometown: Phoenix, Arizona How did you get started? Tell us a little about yourself. I started cosmetology school during my junior year of high school and graduated both high school and beauty school at the same time. The decision itself to become a hairdresser was somewhat surprising because I had never even held a curling iron before starting school; all I knew was I wanted some creative freedom but also have the option to be a business owner. Three adjectives to describe yourself. Passionate, patient, risk taker. Hair Artist or Hair Stylist? Why? It can easily go both ways. Some people use paint, photography, or sculpting as an art medium, hair is mine. What do you enjoy the most about being a Hair Artist/Stylist? I love that I can help people to feel good about themselves. I love making people happy. What do you not enjoy about being a Hair Artist/Stylist? Getting into the business I never knew how much work I would have to put into all of this. Continuing education no matter what, all of the early mornings and late nights, as well as all of the different personalities that sit in your chair. There isn’t anything I really don’t enjoy though, it’s all a part of growing and progressing not only as a professional but as an individual as well. Favorite color? Orange Favorite food/drink? Sushi. Black tea 16 SALYSÉ MARCH 2018

Other than yourself, favorite hair artist/stylist? Why? I enjoy people that push limits and seek out ways to do so through education and traveling. Everyone knows something that I don’t. If I had to choose 1 I’d say Sal Salcedo.

What hair trend do you wish would die a slow, painful death? Not necessarily a trend but when clients ask for the “2-4 layer haircut” it doesn’t work like that but if you’re stylist makes it work like that, I’m sorry.

Speak it into existence, where do you see yourself in 5 years? Owning my own home, teaching in an academy as well as working in a salon, traveled to at least 10 countries (currently at 5) and continuing to seek education.

What’s the best/worst gift you’ve ever given/received? Any gift given to me, even if it’s a bit off, is always appreciated. Someone went out of their way to think of you and do something kind. It’s the thought that counts.

What is your idea of perfect happiness? Having a place to call home, being surrounded by a few good friends, owning a dog, traveling as much as possible, and making it a point to do whatever makes me happy.

What product is in your kit that you can not live without? Silky smooth by S factor. Being platinum blonde takes a toll so all of the extra moisture you can get is crucial.

Your zodiac sign? Taurus What zodiac sign do you get along with the most? I like to think I can find the good in anyone. What’s your favorite quote? “Do or do not, there is no try” -Yoda Dream vacation you would like to take (or have taken)? I love to travel! I have visited five countries and counting. The top of my list would have to be Australia and Tokyo. What’s your theme song? “We All Float Down Here” by Four Year Strong What hair trend do you love? Undone hair. I adore solitude, it gives me a chance to re charge and feel peaceful. Last show you binge-watched? The End of the Fucking World Anything else you want the readers to know about you. Education is one of the few things someone else cannot physically take from you but it’s also a tool to help bring people together. Utilize it and always seek it. Meet Wardrobe Stylist Rachel White How did you get started? Tell us a little about yourself. My love of fashion started when I was 9 years old. I also had a career in PR and marketing, before deciding to pursue styling and fashion blogging. Three adjectives to describe yourself. My personal style is feminine, chic and elegant. What do you enjoy the most about being a fashion stylist? I love seeing my creative vision walking down the runway or captured in photographs. I also enjoy seeing how confident the women I style are, once they are decked out in fabulous clothes. What do you not enjoy about being a fashion stylist? The constant stream of boxes (online orders of clothes and shoes) at my front door and stacked in my office. Favorite designer? Why? Chanel, because the designs are timeless and chic. I prefer iconic fashion over shock-factor fashion. Favorite color? I love to wear blue because it makes my blue eyes pop. Favorite food/drink? Clueless, because Cher was everything in the 90s and her closet was serious goals. Favorite actor/actress? Gwyneth Paltrow. She is so elegant and polished. 23 SALYSÉ MARCH 2018

Meet Photographer Carrie Evans Hometown: Scottsdale, Arizona How did you get started? Tell us a little about yourself. I used to work as an Art Director in the advertising industry. After being on so many tv and print sets, I realized that I needed to be on the other side of the camera. It truly is my passion. I graduated college with a BFA in Fine Arts/Photography, but wasn’t sure at that time how to make a living being creative. I then went on to get my Master’s degree in Mass Communication, Advertising. I took a job as an advertsing art director. I learned the creative business, and how I could earn a living doing what I truly loved. I quit my corporate career, and started my own business. I have been a professional photographer for almost seven years now. Three adjectives to describe yourself. Assertive, Nostalgic, Hella fun What do you enjoy the most about photography? I love that there is no fixed answer to creativity. Solving a creative concern for a client with my talent and the talents of my team, is the greatest reward. What do you not enjoy about photography? Trespassing to get the shot. If it’s a personal shoot for me, and not for a client, I often forgo getting permits. It’s actually a rush that I don’t mind. It’s lugging the equipment quickly to get out and avoid being caught that’s a real pain. Favorite color? Pantone 310 Favorite food/drink? Can’t live without Mexican food / Green tea 24 SALYSÉ MARCH 2018

What person, living or dead, would you love to photograph? Tim Burton. I absolutely adore that man’s vision, character, and hair. What country would you love to shoot in? Specifically, Thailand, Hong Kong, Tokyo. What’s your theme song? “I’m So Excited” The Pointer Sisters If you had the opportunity to meet any photographer, living or dead, who would it be? I would LOVE to meet Tim Walker Favorite movie? Edward Scissorhands Favorite actor/actress? Jack Nicholson. I seemed to have watched The Shining more than any other movie. And I love Anjelica Huston. Favorite superhero? Why? Never been into superheros, but I think ordinary people possess small amounts of super powers. I observe and try to figure out how I can apply them to my life.

What is your favorite word? Awesome! I say it too way too much. Least favorite? Moist. It’s grossing me out just typing it. What was the last picture you took with your phone? I would’ve loved to witness the behind the scenes on the set of John Waters Pink Flamingos film. Guilty Pleasure?
