SALYSÉ Magazine is a photography magazine, featuring beauty, fashion, and conceptual art editorials. We do not seek to define beauty with one narrow idea, but with myriad viewpoints. Vintage is right next to emerging designers, who are right next to established designers. We are looking for creatives who push the envelope, take chances, and disregard the status quo. SALYSÉ Magazine is about sophistication, authenticity, with a touch of eccentricity. ---------FOLLOW https://instagram.com/salysemagazine/ LIKE https://www.facebook.com/salysemagazine SUBSCRIBE http://issuu.com/salysemagazine PURCHASE http://www.magcloud.com ---------Not just a magazine— a movement! www.salyse.com © SALYSE, LLC All rights reserved.

Meet Model Caitlin Weinberg Hometown? Coonawarra, South Australia

Your zodiac sign? Aries

How did you get started modeling? Tell us about yourself. Modeling had always been something I was interested in. People used to tell me when I was a lot younger that I should try it out. I loved watching Next Top Model and basically anything related to fashion. I used to get my mum to take photos of me all the time and in year 7 I made a magazine for one of our big projects called ‘COUTURE’ and I was the model for every look! I did a couple of ‘runway’ type shows in my hometown (famous wine region but with a population of only 50) as a favor for friends when I was about 16. But it wasn’t until I was 18 that I got some professional ‘digis’ and sent them in to modeling agencies in the city. A couple said they’d love to see me, and a couple said that I wasn’t the ‘right look’ for them. Finesse was one of the agencies interested and they offered me a place in their modeling course, and from there I got signed, which was honestly a huge surprise because I new being only 170cm would be a drawback.

Favorite color? Purple! I’m very drawn to the colour blue, but I like the warming upbeat feeling of pinks so purple is my happy medium.

Three adjectives to describe yourself. Caring, diplomatic, organized What do you enjoy the most about modeling? I love meeting all the new people! I’ve found the majority of the people I have worked with creatively inspiring. I get to see their style and idea of beauty. I also love wearing cool clothes and I always love seeing how the photos turn out, it’s a group effort and I love that. What do you not enjoy about modeling? I would have to say the sporadic nature of the job. I never know when exactly I will get a job and sometimes you know you have a casting or a shoot weeks in advance, sometimes it’s a day before!

Favorite food? I will never get sick of chocolate peanut butter smoothie bowls! What designer would you love to model/walk for? Why? I would love to model for Bec and Bridge or Alice McCall because I love all of their pieces in their recent collections, I also love Stella McCartney’s brand philosophy, no fur and commitment to environmental sustainability. I think fast fashion really is killing the fashion industry, more brands should be focused on being sustainable and looking after all stakeholders, rather than making a profit off of another designer’s idea. What photographer would you love to shoot with? Why? I came across wolfcubwolfcub - Brydie Mack’s instagram the other day and I think her work communicates natural flawless feminine beauty, all the models she shoots just look like the most perfectly comfortable versions of themselves. Speak it into existence, where do you see yourself in 5 years? I see myself traveling, having a really close-knit group of friends and hopefully having more modeling work. What’s your theme song? This is definitely the hardest question! Because I love music! So I don’t think I have one, however I have two favourite bands that can do no wrong in my mind, Django Django and Little Dragon I love every song of theirs and it fills my heart whenever I hear a song of theirs.

Your idea of “happiness” and/or your idea of “misery” Happiness for me is feeling no worries, being completely at ease in the present moment. For me it’s probably with people I love, doing something I love; surrounded by the things I love- a real sense of Hygge. And as for misery, it would be being far away from the people I love, in a place with bad weather doing something monotonous and uncreative. Favorite superhero? Why? Kim Possible (does that count?) haha. I grew up watching Kim Possible and I think she’s really cool, she’s strong and independent and for the first time I noticed she was the superhero with a sidekick instead of the guy being the lead. Dream vacation you would like to take (or have taken)? I’ve always wanted to visit Peru and climb Machu Picchu, So South America is probably the top of my bucket list but I really want to visit everywhere! I want to learn about foreign cultures and see places really different to Australia’s scenery, I love Australia too though; I want to do a road trip and see it all. What person, living or dead, do you admire the most? Why? I think Leonardo DiCaprio is doing a lot in raising awareness for the environment and appealing to an audience that might not have been interested in the environmental devastation. He is bringing awareness to it because of his fame. What’s your favorite quote? “He who says he can and he who says he can’t are both usually right” -Confucius What is your favorite body part? I like my eyes.

What do you do when you are not modeling? I study Marketing and Communications so I’ll be at University or studying from home. I also work a couple of casual jobs, I love yoga and Pilates and socializing with friends. Favorite movie? Napoleon Dynamite. I was OBSESSED with it in my teenage years; I used to watch it every weekend. I found something about the movie so captivating it might have been Napoleon’s nerdiness, the humor, cinematography, storyline, the location or just the fact that it was probably one of the earliest ‘art house’ films I remember watching. Favorite actor/actress? Emily Blunt, I love every movie she’s in. I think she’s the best female actor of this generation. If you could learn to do anything, what would it be? Speak another language or fly Guilty Pleasure? Shopping sprees Last show you binge-watched? This year so far I have been addicted to Seinfeld and Friends; that means binge watching at least four episodes a night! Oops. Last book you read? The Little Book of Hygge by Meik Wiking, I highly recommend it! Anything else you want the readers to know about you? I’m all about everything good for the environment, health and soul. Meet Olivers Reef Hometown Adelaide. South Australia How did you get started? Tell us a little about yourself. Olivers Reef idea started on the beautiful Fleurieu Peninsula, South Australia, by a mother and daughter design duo, Jennie and Gracie. We have a mutual love of luxurious clothes and a relaxed beach lifestyle. We wanted to design clothes that were timeless, fashionable and embody a discreet sexiness that could be used at beach houses, boating holidays and resort experiences. This coupled with a love of cashmere jumpers and silk clothing created the Olivers Reef brand. Olivers Reef is a name and location that is close to home. It is a beautiful ancient reef at the coastal town of Victor Harbor in South Australia. We have both spent many days soaking up the sun, swimming, bike riding and surfing along the pristine coastline. Many days have been spent in the company of friends drinking fine wine and enjoying great food at our beach house. Three adjectives to describe yourself. Jennie - passionate, creative and active Gracie - happy, active and loving What do you enjoy the most about being a fashion stylist? We both have enjoyed immensely the fashion industry where we meet other amazing and creative professionals. Seeing our ideas become reality is pure joy. What do you not enjoy about being a fashion stylist? Long lead times from ideas to reality is always a challenge especially when dealing with overseas suppliers. Being reliant on weather conditions for outdoor fashion shoots. Favorite designer? Why? Paolo Sebastian (Paul Vasileff). Local Adelaide designer who has taken on the world. His designs and dresses are dreamy and so beautifully made. We are in awe of his talent and vision. Each couture gown is expertly crafted. Favorite color? Jennie – pink Gracie – blue and pink. Doing a photoshoot in the Greek Islands. What person, living or dead, would you love to style for? Gisele Bundchen. We love Gisele’s physique and beauty. She is sexy, tall and so elegant with an athletic look to her. She was credited with ending the ‘heroin chic’ era of modeling with her healthy physic. We love the fact that she supports many charities including, Save the Children, Red Cross, Doctors without Borders and is a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations. She is beautiful inside and out. What would you do? Gisele would be easy to style for as her tall elegant frame and healthy physique suits all of our outfits. We would love to style her in our Olivia Pants and Jennifer Shirt in the Coral O Rose Quartz for a casual shoot on a boat. For a photoshoot on a beach or resort, our Gracie Dress would look stunning on her. Your zodiac sign? Jennie - Leo Gracie - Scorpio What zodiac sign do you get along with the most? Jennie – Scorpio Gracie – Pisces/ Leo What’s your favorite quote? Jennie – “Be your own kind of beautiful”. Gracie – “If ever there is tomorrow when we’re not together…there is something you must always remember. You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. But the most important thing is, even if we’re apart… I’ll always be with you” ~ Winnie the Pooh. If you could throw any kind of party, what would it be like and what would it be for? Jennie - Birthday…Party on a huge yacht with a big band, lots of dancing, lots of friends, excellent Australian Wine. Black tie affair. Meet Makeup Artist Ali Campanella How did you get started? Tell us a little about yourself. I’ve been a freelance makeup artist and hairstylist in Adelaide, South Australia, for the past 9 years. In starting my makeup career, I attained a certificate in Makeup Services and worked for MAC Cosmetics; it was at MAC that I had the opportunity to develop and sharpen my skills as an artist. I highly recommend all artists to work at a counter during the early days of their career - working on a counter gives you exposure to a variety of clients with different makeup and skincare needs. It provides for the opportunities to work with difficult skin types and conditions and different eye shapes and features. As an artist, this has helped me build confidence knowing that I can handle any tricky unforeseen situation that may crop up! Upon leaving MAC, I set up my own freelancing business, offering makeup, hairstyling and lash enhancement procedures to clients in the areas of fashion, editorial, commercial, occasion/events and bridal. Three adjectives to describe yourself. Calm, Unconventional, Happy. What do you enjoy the most about being a MUA? Having a positive impact on how my clients feel about themselves and using makeup as a way to creatively express myself. What do you not enjoy about being a MUA? Cleaning my brushes - which is incredibly important and necessary for hygiene but nevertheless a rather boring chore. Other than yourself, favorite makeup artist? Why? Merton Muaremi - his work is so polished and defined. I love his beauty work.

Favorite color? Yellow. It’s a happy vivid colour. Favorite food/drink? Kway Teow. South Australian Cabernet Sauvignon. What person, living or dead, would you love to work with? Freddy Mercury. What would you create? I would have loved to have directed makeup looks for his concert performances. Freddie pushed boundaries; he would’ve been an inspiration to collaborate with. Your zodiac sign? Sagittarius What zodiac sign do you get along with the most? Cancer

What make up trend do you wish would die a slow, painful death? Blocked brows and severe contouring - this should be reserved for theatrical purposes only! Runner up is the silver grey smokey eye makeup circa 2010 - this can look extremely tacky - I prefer warmer neutral based smokey eye colours as they are much more flattering. What product is in your kit that you cannot live without? Definitely NARS eye primer; it’s my insurance policy against creased eyeshadow! What is your idea of perfect happiness? Where I’m contributing something of value to others and I feel at peace with myself and my actions.

What’s your favorite quote? “The greatest wealth is health.” Favorite movie? The Lion King Dream vacation you would like to take (or have taken)? Currently touring through Cambodia and Vietnam as I’m writing this - it’s amazing!

Website www.makeupbyali.com.au Follow Ali on Social Media FB: makeupbyali.australia IG: makeupbyali.australia

What’s your theme song? “Don’t Stop Me Now” by Queen. What makeup/hair trend do you love? Slicked natural brows and diffused chocolate smokey eyes. Enhance - don’t cover! My favourite hair trend is pulled Dutch braids - it’s a no-brainer for a whimsical bohemian-style look. What’s the best/worst gift you’ve ever given/received? Not sure.

Meet Photographer Glenn Varona How did you get started? Tell us a little about yourself. Believe it or not, watching “America’s Next Top Model” TV show piqued my interest in fashion photography. I love watching the photoshoot parts of the show. After returning from our trip to NY, I bought my wife a DSLR camera to use for travel photography. However, I did not end up giving it to her after I started playing with the camera, myself. Then, I attended a portrait, fashion and wedding photography workshop around 2010 and found that I had a good eye for photography and a natural talent that I had not realised.
