Meet Model Safiya Hendricksony How did you get started modelling? Tell us about yourself. I was asked by someone to model for them in a small show, nothing big, but once I did it I fell in love. That’s really when I was like “I need to be modeling!” Three adjectives to describe yourself. loud, different, and scattered What do you enjoy the most about modelling? When it comes to modeling I obviously LOVE the outfits and clothes and pampering but i really love slipping myself into a new character for every outfit I’m in. It’s like acting but only for an instant. That’s probably my favourite thing. What do you not enjoy about modelling? So far there’s nothing I don’t enjoy about it. Oh! No, that’s not true, I hate the pressure of always needing to be smaller. That’s BULLSHIT. What designer would you love to model/walk for? Why? I would love to walk for ANYONE creative, and paying of course. My favourite brands are brands that put creative, functional and technically challenging designs all in one. I’ve studied fashion so ya girl know what she’s talking about! But I guess an example would be J.W Anderson. I would love to study CHANEL, I don’t think they would have me walk for them but to learn the art and construction behind their garments would be a dream! there are so many photographers and I really don’t know any by name but there is a consistent style I typically like and it’s fun, visually captivating, and pretty crazy!

What is your favorite body part? My favourite body parts are definitely my hands. All my art comes from there. Painting, drawing, fashion design, sewing and tailoring. Without the I’m hopeless. What do you do when you are not modeling? When I’m not modeling, I’m tailoring and or drawing. Or texting my boyfriend hehe. If you could learn to do anything, what would it be? I really want but also really NEED to learn Japanese. It’s a beautiful language, but also if I’m gonna go to that fashion school in japan I need to be fluent! Guilty Pleasure? Guilty pleasures aren’t a thing for me. Why feel guilty indulging in something that makes you feel good? Anything else you want the readers to know about you? I would and could say a whole bunch more about me but, that would be a frickin novel to read. So I’ll keep it short and just say I’m the mixed Caribbean and Slovenian bruh with crazy hair and a huge personality!

What photographer would you love to shoot with? Why? There are so many photographers and I really don’t know any by name but there is a consistent style I typically like and it’s fun, visually captivating, and pretty crazy! Speak it into existence, where do you see yourself in 5 years? I wasn’t gonna answer this one cuz I find it ridiculous but, ideally, I want to be modeling in Japan while I’m attending the Japanese fashion school called “Bunka” that would be dope. 25 SALYSÉ NOV 2017

Meet Photographer Allison Taylor How did you get started? Tell us a little about yourself. I was fascinated by the idea of being able to capture a moment in time from a pretty young age. When I was about ten or eleven years old I saved up my Christmas, babysitting, and birthday money to buy myself the nicest point-and-shoot digital camera I could find. I had my girlfriends model for (and with, of course) me when we were in school and maintained a ‘hobbyist’ status until I started assisting and second shooting weddings in 2012. It’s been an interesting and winding road since then, but here we are! Several cameras, continents, and an ever changing business plan later!

If you could have personally witnessed anything, what would you want to have seen? First thing that comes to mind is the “I have a dream” speech. Last book you read? The Sun Also Rises - Hemingway Anything else you want the readers to know about you. I’d like to point out that some of these answers have been serious, and others, not so much. I’d like to think it’s obvious which is which, but you never know haha.

Three adjectives to describe yourself. Hilarious. Amazing. Modest. What do you enjoy the most about photography? Seeing things from a different perspective. What person, living or dead, would you love to photograph? Oh. I’ve never really thought about it but, off the top of my head, Beyoncé. We’d have a fab time and create some fierce images. Sasha Fierce. What country would you love to shoot in? I can’t imagine anything besting Bali, but I’ve yet to shoot in France. Paris is a bucket list shoot, for sure. Your zodiac sign? Pisces, if you’re into that kind of thing. Dream vacation you would like to take (or have taken)? Again, Bali. What’s your theme song? “Sex With Me” - Rihanna (Thank you iTunes shuffle, I’m flattered and somewhat confused) Favorite superhero? Why? Superman. Primarily because he’s the best, and the argument that him having all the superpowers being a reason not to like him is why he’s the best - also, because I’m basic. What was the last picture you took with your phone? Sunset silhouette of an ocean water hair flip in Cancun. (It turned out kind of like a Pinterest fail, in case you were wondering.)

Meet Makeup Artist Aidan Beach How did you get started? Tell us a little about yourself. I got started by watching Youtube tutorials and just experimenting with makeup looks on myself and then once I got comfortable doing that, I started doing makeup on my friends for fun. For my senior project in high school we had to pick an interest of ours to do a project on for the year and I picked makeup. After pushing myself to do it more and more not only for my project but because I loved doing it so much, I decided it would be a good career that I would genuinely enjoy.

Last book you read? Milk and Honey by Rupi Kaur Guilty Pleasure? Ben and Jerry Late Night Dough ice cream and Netflix. Last show you binge-watched? Friends (for the 3rd time)

What do you enjoy the most about being a MUA? The ability to be creative and make people feel more confident. What do you not enjoy about being a MUA? Its very competitive in Vancouver (BC, Canada)

Follow Aidan on Social Media IG: @aidanbeachmua

Other than yourself, favorite make up artist? Why? Alex Box because she is crazy talented, creative and is constantly pushing boundaries for what others perceive as beautiful in the makeup industry. Favorite food/drink? Ramen noodles! What is your idea of perfect happiness? Being content with where you are in life, not wishing to be someone or somewhere else. Your zodiac sign? Libra What zodiac sign do you get along with the most? Sagittarius What make up trend do you love? Natural, wispy eyebrows and natural skin. What make up trend do you wish would die a slow, painful death? Instagram eyebrows. What’s the best/worst gift you’ve ever given/received? Best gift was receiving a Ukulele from my mom for my 20th Birthday What product is in your kit that you can not live without? Mac fix plus all the way. Favorite movie? Forest Gump Favorite actor/actress? Jake Gyllenhaal

Meet Fashion Designer Casey Lamb How did you get started? Tell us a little about yourself. I got started with KSLAM, through printing my art on graphic tees. From there it escalated towards denim. The first denim collection I put out was in November 2016, so almost a year ago! Since then I have just been working more closely with denim, and seeing how I can maximize repurposing it. Three adjectives to describe yourself. The three adjectives I would use to describe myself is genuine, creative, and empathetic. Favorite designer other than yourself? Why? My favorite designer, at the moment would have to be Donatella Versace, because of her newest collection. She recently brought back vintage Versace, which is some of my all-time favorites, in terms of design, production and fabric. A new brand out of New York and Berlin called Namilia is another one of my favorites as well. Their approach to fashion is completely outside of the box, and it inspires me to do the same. What person, living or dead, would you love to create a design for? What would you create? If I could create a design for anyone, it would probably have to Julia Roberts back in the day, when she first started her career. I would probably create a super badass suit, that accentuates large shoulders and her slim waist.

What fashion trend do you wish would die a slow, painful death? The one fashion trend I want to die is leggings. People are going to come for me for saying this, but… they are not pants. Last book you read? The last book I read is How to be a Bad Ass by Jen Sincero. I have expressed my love for this book to those close to me, but it’s a must read! For anyone that is struggling with aspects of confidence, obstacles or anything that is holding them back from living their best life, NEEDS to read this. Anything else you want the readers to know about you. Keep an eye on KSLAM because I am just getting started.

Speak it into existence, where do you see yourself in 5 years? In 5 years, I hope to see myself designing for celebrities personally. Right now, my stuff is made to fit, and I want to keep that going. Hopefully I will be living in a place like LA or New York that has more of a fashion hub. Your zodiac sign? My zodiac sign is Pisces, and it fits me so perfectly. What fashion trend do you love? My favorite fashion trend is pant suits. Any woman can rock a power suit, and I honestly think nothing is sexier.

‘The process’,

as it’s often called, can be one of the most exhausting, exciting, challenging, and joyous of ventures - ask any creative. That beautiful end-vision can seem so close and yet unattainable all at once - add being a young newcomer to the industry and you have what could be the most rewarding struggle of your life to date. The people who take this knowledge and run with it, those are the artists I seek out. The culmination of hours, days, weeks, and months being a photograph I was able to capture can be the most gratifying and worthwhile of pursuits. Appreciating each aspect of an image and how it came to be is arguably the most important part of the process. Fashion has always drawn model Safiya, she was and is very passionate about the actual garment and fashion construction of the fashion industry, but actually fell into modelling by chance. With plans to continue modelling, she hopes to move into fashion designing. Fashion designing becoming the main focus over modelling while still, at the end of the day [for Safiya], one does not exist without the other. Each article of clothing she wears both in her day to day life as well as in modelling is chosen with care and purpose. Safiya is pictured wearing almost exclusively KSLAM clothing. KSLAM started as a way to showcase Casey’s (designer) art. With a self-made stencil, she hand painted the first pair of jeans - with no intention of selling them. They were a hit. Shortly after, Casey put out her “Cat Call” denim collection. The first “Cat Call” collection was released in limited quantities, and sold out in a day. Paired with the vintage reworked denim are accessories by Standout Boutique. Standout is a vision to bring you unique jewelry pieces with a fresh perspective on style from many different cultures. Each piece is designed and quality handmade with Parisa’s (Standout Boutique’s designer) inspiration for her jewelry creation coming from her own personal travels around the world, living in and experiencing different cultures, being a mother and all of her surroundings. Safiya’s makeup look was created with a relaxed Fall feeling in mind. Each tone and texture specifically chosen to catch light and enhance her rich brown eyes as well as tie together each look as a whole. Rounding out a team of talents to watch in the industry, makeup artist Aidan Beach.

Meet Photographer Emma May Hometown Saint Etienne, next to Lyon, France How did you get started? Tell us a little about yourself. I’m 33 and I live in the region of Lyon, France. The art of photography has always been enthralling to me – my grandfather was also a photographer and I remember having spent magical moments staring at the process of silver photography in his lab when I was a kid. A few years ago, I became a model before I wished to create my own pictures and now I’m on the other side of the camera, finally fulfilling my artistic desire. Three adjectives to describe yourself. Dreamy, passionate, and happy! What do you enjoy the most about photography? I’m far from having tested everything in this so very huge field that the art of photography is! But my area of expertise is definitely around models, especially with natural-light portraits. What do you not enjoy about photography? To make a decent living out of it. Apart from the technical skills that are compulsory, you also need to know how to communicate and be a good salesman. And that is far from easy, especially in such a competitive environment that has become so popular. Favorite color? Rainbow! Favorite food/drink? Salmon/Mojito What person, living or dead, would you love to photograph? Monica Bellucci ... What an amazing woman! She IS the perfect and absolute sensuality.

What country would you love to shoot in? Cuba! For colorful streets, amazing faces, and music everywhere.

What is your favorite word? Least favorite? My motto? Simply live your life with passion. I’m really deeply passionate!

What is your idea of perfect happiness? To be positive and to move forward. To be surrounded with the right persons is important for me (professional relationships, friends and family ). And in my idea of perfect happiness, I would also like to be surrounded by lots of cats and live next to the sea, enjoying sunny days and organizing photoshoots again and again...

What was the last picture you took with your phone? One of my cats, sleeping on my pillow.

Your zodiac sign? Taurus What’s your favorite quote? “I would rather die of passion than of boredom.” ( Emile Zola ) Dream vacation you would like to take (or have taken)? Always Cuba, especially for its colors ...as I said before ...I went there last year and it was so amazing... I’ve been traveling a lot, and I don’t want to stop! I really enjoy meeting new people/places. What’s your theme song? “Imagine“ by John Lennon. A song full of dreams/peace/love... If you had the opportunity to meet any photographer, living or dead, who would it be? Paolo Roversi Favorite movie? Intouchables (French movie, US remake is The Upside)

If you could have personally witnessed anything, what would you want to have seen? After intense and unexpected rainfall in the north of Chile, parts of the usually arid Atacama desert turning into a carpet of flowers... I imagine you already saw these amazing pictures... I would love to witness this rare and incredible show. Guilty Pleasure? Cheese and chocolate... Last show you binge-watched? Orange is the New Black I couldn’t stop watching this series !!! Last book you read? Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden. Anything else you want the readers to know about you. Did I tell you I ‘m really in love with cats ??? Am I a little bit obsessed for you ??

Favorite actor/actress? Vincent Cassel/Monica Bellucci Favorite superhero? Why? Catwoman ... who else ??

191 SALYSÉ NOV 2017

Meet Fashion Stylist Hometown Grenoble, France

Favorite food/drink? French Cheese. French Cheese is Life.

How did you get started? Tell us a little about yourself. I’m born loving arts. Seriously, one of the first thing I’ve made in my life was to take a pen and draw. I grew up discovering all form of Arts, and when I was 20, I entered a French fashion school. Then, I met a photographer who proposed me to style his fashion shooting. I felt more and more passionate about styling and/or directing fashion projects, so when I was 23 I decided to work freelance, as a Fashion Stylist & Image Consultant.

What person, living or dead, would you love to style for? What would you do? I always dreamed of styling an old, strong and charismatic woman. I wish I could create an artistic project with iconic women as the late Simone Veil...

Three adjectives to describe yourself. Passionate – Creative – Curious What do you enjoy the most about being a fashion stylist? More than being a fashion stylist, I love building projects that ask me to work as an Artistic Director: I’m an Art lover above all, and the most important and amazing thing for me is to tell stories. Creating universes, offering dreams, asking questions about beauty and life, playing chameleon to express a million different feelings… that’s what I enjoy the most about Fashion, and more generally, about Art. What do you not enjoy about being a fashion stylist? Being considered only as a closet. Fashion Stylists are often so much more than what we think. As the Muah artists, we’re often hidden behind the Models and Photographers whereas our work includes the artistic direction created all together. It’s driving me crazy when a magazine or a model only mention the photographer on the pictures. Photography is a real and hard work, but concerning fashion shooting, the fashion stylist’s and the muah’s work is still the base standing of the shooting. Favorite designer? Why? There are so much designer I admire… Yamamoto, Kawakubo, Margiela, Iris Van Herpen, Givenchy… But if I had to choose only one right now it would be Ann Demeulemeester. It is the first cloth of designer I offer myself. Her universe is so closed to my interior one. I love the way she plays with darkness and light, the paradoxe she puts in her looks between sweet melancholy and poetic provocation. Her work is so subtle, sophisticated and pure at the same time, so fragile and so strong. Favorite color? Prussian Blue (« Bleu de Prusse » in french) 192 SALYSÉ NOV 2017

Speak it into existence, where do you see yourself in 5 years? The fact is that I have so many dreams, passions and ambitions that I can see myself in a million kind of lives in 5 years! Despite the fact that I appreciate to have the control of my life, I also enjoy being surprised and I try to keep myself open to opportunities. The only thing I’m sure is that I want love, in my personal and professional life, as much as I have right now, I just want to feel love everywhere I go! What is your idea of perfect happiness? In my mind, happiness is all about balance: once you found the perfect link between your professional, love, family and interior lives, you’re invincible. I think happiness is to suddenly look at your life and deeply feel you are in the right place. Your zodiac sign? Taurus What zodiac sign do you get along with the most? Thanks god I don’t have to choose people around me for their zodiac sign, because I just have no idea of what they are! What’s your favorite quote? “Il n’y a pas de hasard, il n’y a que des rendez-vous” by Paul Eluard (french poet) Translation: “There is no coincidence, there are only rendezvous.” Dream vacation you would like to take (or have taken)? I’m a huge traveler, and I’m completely in love with Nordic countries. My biggest dream is to take a long road trip through Iceland and Norway.

Nathalie Descombes What’s your theme song? No. I just can’t choose one song. I love music so much it is just impossible. Moreover, I recognize myself a lot in Agnes Obel and Lorde’s music. Their sound deeply inspires me. Deal with it. What fashion trend do you love? As a Yamamoto & Demeulemeester fan, I’m an eternal black addict. Black is the ultimate and undying fashion trend in my mind. Also, I thank fashion for bringing us back the XXL pullover trend for this winter. What fashion trend do you wish would die a slow, painful death? The old legging trend. Seriously girls, stop it. More seriously, I don’t think there really are some “bad trends”. You can wear anything you want if it fits your body and your personality. Fashion rules are so relative… They shouldn’t keep you from expressing yourself. Favorite movie? Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind by Michel Gondry, Lost in Translation by Sofia Coppola, Her by Spike Jones… As same as music, there are so many movies I’m in love with, you can’t ask me to choose only one!

Guilty Pleasure? I can’t resist buying myself new clothes when my wallet is empty… RIP sweet wallet. Last show you binge-watched? I’m kind of addicted to Netflix but the last show I really binge-watched was the last season of Orange is the New Black. Last book you read? A psychology book, my mind doesn’t know how to rest. Best gift you received or have given? The Koala Kigurumi my man offered me for cold times… so cute and warm! Anything else you want the readers to know about you. Let’s keep a little mystery after all this information which has already escaped from myself… Follow Nathalie on Social Media Facebook: /nathaliedescombesstyle/ Instagram: @nathalie_descombes Twitter: n_descombes Website www.nathaliedescombes.com

Favorite actor/actress? You may think I’m an undecided person but… how can I choose just one of those stuff when there are so many wonderful things and people to love in the world! Well, curiously, I don’t have favorite actors. But there’s a lot of actresses I like, as Cate Blanchett, Eva Green, Kate Winslet, Kirsten Dunst… They are all pretty different but they have one thing in common: they are clever and strong women. If you could throw any kind of party, what would it be like and what would it be for? My favorite parties are the simple ones, with my close friends, talking during hours. I like planning small but cute parties for them, decorating, cooking and playing good music, with no special occasion, just for the enjoyment to be together.

Meet Hair & Makeup Artist Hometown: Born in Caracas, Venezuela Live in Ramat Gan, Israel How did you get started? Tell us a little about yourself. My Story I am a makeup artist with more than ten years of international experience in the beauty, fashion, photography, and events industry. I also teach makeup and style workshops do hairstyling and fashion production. I love working with Brides. I also spend most of my time in the beauty and fashion world. As part of Photo shoots; fashion, productions, lectures and special events. I was born in beautiful Venezuela, where being pretty and looking perfect is a crucial part of our culture. I grew up between visits with my mom to the hair salon, my family’s suit factory and my beautiful community where I danced Israeli folk dances since I was four. My passion for beauty started at a very young age when I started walking around my family’s clothing factory and playing as a “fashion designer”. Then when I was eight years old, I began to have a skin discoloration know as vitiligo. It was very noticeable on my eyelids and legs. While searching for many treatments my doctor suggested makeup, and that was the best gift I ever got! I started searching and researching for the best makeup to cover my vitiligo and look “perfect” and slowly my love for makeup grew into a passion. A few years passed, and I was 18 years old studying fashion design and photography. Often I visited the MAC counter for new makeup inspiration, until one day when I was twenty I thought “I am here so much maybe I’ll just ask for a job”. They told me that I need to be a makeup artist. I studied with one of the makeup artists for the beauty queens (a big thing in Venezuela) and started my way into the makeup world. Ten years passed since then, and I am still in love with makeup and fashion. I now live in Ramat Gan, work as a freelancer for fashion shoots, bridal makeup, boudoir, and workshops. I Produce international photo shoots and enjoy every moment.

Katy comes in and within an hour she works her magic, disguising signs of fatigue, lines, and wrinkles and enhancing the inner light and features which define and bring out the qualities of a woman’s inspirational personality. Teaching every woman tools and techniques she can use to enhance her natural beauty just as she is, an expression of her captivating personality – in just 5 minutes!
