SALYSÉ Magazine is a photography magazine, featuring beauty, fashion, and conceptual art editorials. We do not seek to define beauty with one narrow idea, but with myriad viewpoints Vintage is right next to emerging designers, who are right next to established designers. We are looking for creatives who push the envelope, take chances, and disregard the status quo. SALYSÉ Magazine is about sophistication, authenticity, with a touch of eccentricity. ---------FOLLOW https://instagram.com/salysemagazine/ LIKE https://www.facebook.com/salysemagazine SUBSCRIBE http://issuu.com/salysemagazine PURCHASE http://www.magcloud.com ---------Not just a magazine— a movement!

Letter from the Editor Dear Salysians, HAPPY SPRING!!! It has been awhile since I was in the studio. It felt soooo wonderful to be behind the camera again. I just want to thank an awesome team that allowed my return to go smoothly. The models: Delaina, Kristina, and Jessica. The makeup artists: Monique Nicole and Yanick-Nikita Lunford. The hair artists: Latesha Hughes and Kanika Styles. Thank you ladies for your artistry! #teamworkmakesthedreamwork This issue was so much fun to put together! I love the fact that a variety of beauty “standards” are depicted. I hope you enjoy reading this issue as much as I enjoyed curating it and putting it together. As always, I hope you enjoy your escape. Hugs and Love, Sonya Alyse Lawyer SALYSÉ, Founder and Editor in Chief

80 SALYSÉ MARCH 2017
Meet Photographer Anna Linden How did you get started? Tell us a little about yourself. Photography was originally my hobby (I have a degree in Computer Sciences). It all started back when those first tiny digital cameras appeared. I got fascinated by the fact that I could immediately see the result, and it made me start trying various compositions and angles instead of just taking a usual snapshot of someone.
What country would you love to shoot in? I think Iceland. The natural light there is very different from our harsh sun, and the landscape is otherworldly.
Afterwards I started shooting film, also developing it (black and white) by myself. I think it has greatly affected the way I prefer to edit my digital photos currently, I really love the film aesthetics.
Dream vacation you would like to take (or have taken)? I had a dream vacation in Norway in 2011 with my husband, 25 days of glorious nature, sleeping in a tent for the most part. I would like to do the same in Iceland some day.
I became a freelance photographer in 2014, shooting mostly families, couples and portraits in natural light since then. Recently I’ve been interested in fashion and beauty photography, so this is going to be my next challenge.
Last show you binge-watched? Breaking Bad (just recently. Yes, I know I’m a few years late :))
If you had the opportunity to meet any photographer, living or dead, who would it be? Anka Zhuravleva
Three adjectives to describe yourself. Organized, balanced, open
Favorite movie? Current favorite: Mad Max : Fury Road
Your zodiac sign? Libra What do you enjoy the most about photography? I think it’s that elusive moment during a photoshoot that you can’t always plan ahead, but suddenly everything falls into place and comes out just right and takes your breath away.
Favorite actor/actress? James McAvoy
What do you not enjoy about photography? Well, the retouching process is quite long and boring. I do love the results though.
What was the last picture you took with your phone? My baby daughter Last book you read? The Filmmaker’s Eye by Gustavo Mercado

Meet Hair Stylist, Make Up Artist,
How did you get started? Tell us a little about yourself. How makeup made me be my beautiful self... I am a makeup artist with more than nine years of international experience in the beauty, fashion, photography, and events industry. I also teach makeup and style workshops, and do hairstyling and fashion production. I love working with Brides. I also spend most of my time in the beauty and fashion world. I grew up between visits with my mom to the hair salon, my family’s suit factory and my beautiful community where I danced Israeli folk dances since I was four. My passion for beauty started at a very young age when I started 82 walking around my family’s clothing factory and playing as a “fashion SALYSÉ designer”.
MARCH 2017
“Success does not create happiness, happiness creates success.” Then when I was eight years old, I began to have a skin discoloration know as vitiligo. It was very noticeable on my eyelids and legs. While searching for many treatments my doctor suggested makeup, and that was the best gift I ever got! I started searching and researching for the best makeup to cover my vitiligo and look “perfect” and slowly my love for makeup grew into a passion. A few years passed, and I was 18 years old studying fashion design and photography. Often I visited the MAC counter for new makeup inspiration, until one day when I was twenty I thought “I am here so much maybe I’ll just ask for a job”. They told me that I needed to be a makeup artist. I studied with one of the makeup artists for the beauty queens (a big thing in Venezuela) and started my way into the makeup world.
Nine years passed since then, and I am still in love with makeup and fashion. I now live in Jerusalem, work as a freelancer for fashion shoots, bridal makeup, boudoir, and workshops. I produce international photo shoots and enjoy every moment. Three adjectives to describe yourself. Passionate, Perfectionist, Poised Your zodiac sign?
