Editor’s Note “On International Women’s Day, let us all pledge to do everything we can to overcome entrenched prejudice, support engagement and activism, and promote gender equality and women’s empowerment.” ~ UN Secretary General, António Guterres. Hello everyone. Welcome to this Women’s Day issue. The International Women’s Day is a time to reflect on progress made, to call for change and to celebrate acts of courage and determination by ordinary women who have played an extraordinary role in the history of their communities and countries. With this issue, we focus on a young woman who in the truest sense, never left the country for “greener pastures” abroad or turned towards the trend of “selling what they have to get what they want”; but rather is achieving her goals (despite the social media bullying and judgements) and following her passion in a society where the woman’s place is believed to be in the kitchen. By reading her story and individual journey, I hope more young women get inspired and focus on achieving their dreams despite the circumstances surrounding them. Happy reading and happy women’s day! s a young girl who is unfolding into a woman. A Christian, family centered, hardworking, multifaceted, a flawed human being who is just finding her way in life. Jovial, assertive and composed are undoubtedly the first traits which characterize this multi dynamic person who rose to spotlight in the 2021 edition (2nd edition) of Biggy Studios, Cameroon’s version of the very popular BIG BROTHER show. The First Lady of the P-nation (this vast ensemble of her fans) is en route to becoming a force to be reckoned with in entertainment circles in the offing. Sa Majesté caught up with her for an exclusive interview and here is what she had to say.

SMM: We got to know who Patience Yoh is from the reality show Biggy 237. How did the fame from the show change your life?

SMM: Multiple brands I mean. My bad. Let’s talk about women’s day. What does women’s day represent to you?

Patience: I wouldn’t say there’s been a drastic change but being on the reality show Biggy Studios put me in the public eye, it put my name out there. Adjusting to being in the public has definitely not been easy as I am a really private and reserved person by nature. So being easily spotted everywhere has made my life not so private anymore.

Patience: The international women’s day is a day when around the world women are recognized for their achievements without regard to their divisions. As a woman, especially an African woman this means so much to me. Seeing all these great women being celebrated around the world on this day is a constant reminder to me that women can be so much more than what our society and environment may have groomed us to be.

SMM: You are a lady with many feathers; makeup artist, YouTuber, cake maker, brand ambassador for two brands. How do you manage all these? Patience: (You mentioned being brand ambassador for two brands, I think that was a typo) Wearing these hats and handling all these roles doesn’t seem like work to me. These are all things I very passionate about, so juggling them all is not hard.

SMM: Would you say you have a good relationship with your fans? What does it feel like when they meet you on the streets? How do you reach out to them? Patience: I think I have a great relationship with my fans. It’s always exciting meeting them, having fans just walking up to me in public or reading their beautiful messages is still so surreal.

I’ll like to encourage young women to get out of their comfort zones They may not know this but when they see me in public I’m always as excited to meet them as they are to meet me. PS: think I have the sweetest fans. Reaching out to them is quite easy, we interact on all my social media handles and a few of them actually have my direct contact. SMM: In January of last year you started vlogging on YouTube. Tell us more about your YouTube channel. Patience: Starting my YouTube channel was one of the hardest things I’ve done yet. Doing YouTube was way out of my comfort zone. I didn’t see myself doing something like that ever but at the end of 2020 I had some really hard conversations with myself and I decided to go ahead and do those things I’ve always been too afraid to do and starting a YouTube channel was at the top of that list. YouTube is something i have been thinking about doing for quite

some time, since 2018 actually. My YouTube channel is my own little melting pot. On there I share my unsolicited opinions, some crazy life experiences, sex, beauty, fashion and lifestyle content amongst other things. SMM: Many young ladies who aspire to be like you (popular and involved in several activities) usually point out lack of finances as their major stumbling block. Any tips for them ? Patience: I think I have a lot to say on this topic. But just so I don’t bore us all with endless paragraphs I’ll just say this, Don’t feel pressured to do anything out of character, don’t get carried away by what you see on social media, remember social media is only a made up reality. Half the things we see on there are make believe. Don’t succumb to the need to impress an online community that may not really care as much as you think. I’ll say be contented with what you have and make the best out

of it. You’d be amazed at how much you can do with the little you have, I’m not saying it’ll be easy but it’s definitely doable. SMM: It’s definitely doable of course! What are some of the difficult and the sweetest moments you have had as a “celebrity”, since Biggy Studios? Patience: I don’t think I consider myself a celebrity because there’s a certain negative connotation attached to that word. I’d say my face is just a lot known and easily recognized now. A particularly difficult moment for me was walking out of the Biggy Studios mansion and having to deal with death threats and all the social media bullying because of a situation people know very little about. As for the sweetest moments it’ll be hard to pick one but one really sweet moment for me would have to be my “WELCOME HOME” party, walking into all of that love and support from people I didn’t know just

Don’t feel pressured to do anything out of character, don’t get carried away by what you see on social media felt amazing especially amidst everything I was dealing with at the time. SMM: Will you consider yourself, A: as a controversial person? B: as a steadfast but misunderstood person? Patience: Definitely a steadfast but very misunderstood person. SMM: Any words to young women getting into their passion and probably getting on a reality show and becoming overnight sensations like you? The hurdles and advantages. And what do you do to help other young women struggling with self esteem issues because of social media? Patience: Generally I’ll like to encourage young women to get out of their comfort zones because no greatness comes from your comfort zones and this reference doesn’t only go to reality TV but real life as well. As per reality tv, to anyone who intends to be on one I’ll encourage you to do these four things; research as much as you can about the show (its core values and its organizers)

from previous contestants and from the organizers of the show. Make sure you speak to your family and ensure that they are on board because the moral support is needed. Do not, I repeat, do not go against any of your core values to please an online community that’ll forget you as quickly as they shout your name. Lastly be your authentic self it’s the easiest thing to do because you cannot possibly act for two months and go undetected. I do believe reality TV has a big place in the entertainment scene and if Biggy Studios taught me anything is that there is a place because there is definitely a market. However it’ll take patience and discipline amongst other things for us to build and secure reality TV’s place in the entertainment scene in Cameroon. So I’ll encourage any young woman who wants to be on one to go for it, however I’ll like to be very precise and specific on the fact that due diligence must be done. SMM: Thank you so much Patience! I hope your words get to as much young women as it can get to. Patience: You’re welcome and thanks for having me. Connect with Patience Yoh: Facebook: Patience Yoh

MODER RELATIONSH

FROM A WOM

R

elationships today are not how they used to be back then when women were clueless about their own expectations from a man. Women back then were groomed to fulfill only a man’s need without getting much back in return. Today we live in a world where our eyes have opened up to quite a lot and we’re learning to set rules on our values in relationships. It seems like relationships are more easier today but personally I don’t think it is. I mean rules don’t just get changed overnight without facing consequences right? It’s getting more doomed everyday than perfect. Based on my own personal observations with women in relationships, we seem to have more weaknesses than strengths.

10 SA MAJESTÉ MAGAZINE

(so What are some weaknesses we have in relationships today? Women tend to lose their identity when it comes to a man they love. We forget about ourselves and focus more on bettering ourselves for them. We don’t take time to build what is important to us because we center our lives just around that relationship. Another thing is we forgive all the time thinking they would get better but it’s always one mistake to another that we make excuses for. If someone ever told you as a woman, you need to let certain things go because you’re the one to teach them how to act, that’s some major BS and should not be tolerated. Have some level of acceptance and put your foot down when necessary. Your partner or relationship are not

your only priority, you should be your major priority if you’re trying to build a good relationship. Also, don’t be too emotionally dependent on a man. Most men don’t care and don’t like women who portray their weaknesses too often. I mean it sucks not to SA MAJESTÉ MAGAZINE 11

have an emotionally supportive partner but at the same time even if you do, don’t make it a habit to burden them all the time especially when they’re not doing so well themselves emotionally. When it comes to finances, have your own! Even if he doesn’t mind doing it for you, it’s important to know that things can go south and you need to have yours to fall back on. Caring! Caring too much only makes you weak because when they think, well maybe not think but when they know you care too much, they will walk all over you and you will find yourself begging for forgiveness for something you did not even know how it started. What are some strengths we have in a relationship today? Women know how to endure. I feel like this is something we don’t get enough credit for because the things that some of these men will put you through, you’d think one of your ancestors offended their family members. Remember how I talked about one of weaknesses was constantly forgiving? Well this is where that weakness builds up from; we endure way too much for the sake of love. We are creative in a sense that we think of new ways to better our relationships when it gets boring. A woman can quickly think of what conversations to have with their partner. A woman can make or break a relationship whenever but that’s one strength we don’t use often. Women are the over achievers in their relationships. We’re never satisfied with

one thing. A man can be contented when they meet their goals but we women, we want to keep going especially because we see how our fellow women are achieving so nobody wants to sit there and be considered last. Another thing is even if a relationship is over, we would always care for them not because we love them but because it’s just built in us to care. It’s like a mother and child relationship; no matter how bad they might be, you will still nurture them when they come to you. It can sometimes be a problem but that’s just how we are. With all these being said, no matter the strengths or weaknesses we have, nothing keeps a relationship more together than communication and honesty. We need to learn how to talk to our partners when it’s necessary because when you don’t, you give them more power to dominate over you. If you’re in a relationship where you feel scared to let your partner know what’s bugging you then please just exit it. Don’t carry a burden on you because you’re scared they might leave you. Communicate with each other because that can solve a lot of issues. Learn to be honest too. Any re-

Your partner or relationship are not your only priority, you should be your major priority if you’re trying to build a good relationship. lationship that started on lies or is built on lies, hardly last. Don’t lie because you don’t want to lose them. Nothing hides forever and that one lie you keep will most likely break a bond you invested so much time in. Communication and honesty is not just for women though, it’s both ways. Relationships today are very unpredictable, you can be happy now and crying next minute. No matter how picky you are, there’s no guarantee of a better partner out there for you. Don’t be with a man because you think he’s the one you should be with. Be with someone who reciprocates the love and

energy you give out. Let them not take you for granted because of how good you are to them. I know most men will say we as women are not any better too; (true) but then being a good woman never changed a man so aim for expectations and not desires. When he tells you what he wants, tell him what you want from him too! Relationships today go both ways so there’s NOTHING wrong with demanding your efforts to be matched. There’s someone out there for you who will willingly meet your standards without you asking for it. Excuses are definitely not welcomed! Love Always, Kelly Munge.

ince the beginning of the Afcon 2021, there has been a deluge of textual and audio-visual material on the exploits of the National team captain of Cameroon, Aboubakar Vincent. After his goal spree at the first round of the games, he became every Cameroonian ladies’ favorite player. «AbouBae” “Abouchou” “Aboubabut” “ babydaddy” to name a few are the various appellations he has inherited over the course of the competition. On social media tons of invitations from ladies for a free massage session, to impregnate them, for a meal of his choice and to hang out are the order of the day. Most interesting are some of the attributes and comparisons the striker has been subjected to. To some he looks like Chris Brown or Trey Songz, and to others he’s the

most handsome player in the squad, more efficient than any other footballer in the world. It is no doubt that ladies have always had a soft spot for professional athletes. However, many onlookers keep on wondering what has caused this sudden avalanche of attention towards the 30 year old striker and father of 3; seeing that he has been playing for this squad since 2010 and had never gotten such attention.

Professional path The Garoua born striker started football as a kid, playing for fun. As he reveals in an interview earlier this year. “As a child I played football just for fun and then eventually I played the Top Cup, where I was voted best player” says Aboubakar. “From there I went SA MAJESTÉ MAGAZINE 15

On social media tons of invitations from ladies for a free massage session on to play at the Brasseries Academy [which has satellites across the country] and in the club. My coaches told me I could do something great in the sports. “From Brasseries, I got scouted then went to Coton Sport’s youth setup before playing with the first team. After I went to the World Cup in 2010, I signed for Valenciennes in France then Lorient, and later on to Porto.” Today he plays for the Saudi Arabian side Al Nassr, where his records speak volumes. Does his sudden popularity have anything to do with the ladies or does it have anything to do with the ladies? Haha! Happy Women’s Day!
