Master in Heritage Management- 1st Semester: Term Paper for Heritage Discourses & FrameworksConsideration and Conservation of Cultural Landscape in India

The World Heritage Committee has inscribed twenty-one cultural landscapes on the World Heritage List. As defined by the World Heritage Committee, a cultural landscape is a "combined work of nature and man" and is considered to be of Outstanding Universal Value. The Committee has acknowledged that many cultural landscapes are of Outstanding Universal Value but have not been inscribed on the World Heritage List. This is due to the fact that cultural landscapes are often complex and dynamic and can be difficult to identify and assess.

The selection Committee has also acknowledged in the past that natural landscapes are often not adequately represented when cultural landscapes are being nominated for World Heritage status. This is due to the fact that the Committee often relies on expert reports when assessing nominations, and these reports often do not adequately reflect the cultural landscape. In addition, the Committee has acknowledged that there are often missed opportunities during the nomination process and that dossiers submitted during the nomination process often do not adequately reflect the cultural landscape. This paper will argue that the World Heritage Committee should give more consideration to natural landscapes when assessing nominations for World Heritage status. The paper will first discuss the missed opportunities and the dossiers submitted during the nomination process. Secondly, the paper will argue that natural landscape was not measured when the sites were being nominated as cultural landscapes. Finally, the paper will conclude by arguing that the World Heritage Committee should give more consideration to natural landscapes when assessing nominations for World Heritage status.

Term Paper for Environmental and Resource Economics

Leather Industry- Tanning process and its impact on the Environment

Leather Industry- Tanning process and its impact on the Environment Every day, millions of people consume an incredible amount of leather and leather goods produced in the market.

The most polluting part of the leather production process is the tanning stage, where chromium salts are used to remove hair and other tissues from hides and to preserve the leather The Indian leather industry is primarily export-oriented and is expected to generate revenue of INR 987.6 billion by 2025, growing at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 9.9% during the forecast period. This paper will trace a few relevant issues of environmental standards imposed on the leather industry and their impact on the Indian Leather Industry's export prospects, focusing on different polluting stages of the industry and examining whether the impact of compliance measures on exports has demonstrated 'Porter's Hypothesis', 'Pollution Haven Hypothesis,' or none of these in the Indian Leather Industry Furthermore, the environmental regulations imposed on the tanning industry are all domestic, resulting in 16 weak governance and surveillance. Producing a pollutant-free commodity is one challenge, but the Indian Leather Sector faced a more significant challenge in producing through a pollution-free process.
