Ligature

Ligatures are when two or more letters are combined. The top picture is the combination of an A and a D, and the bottom is an E and an F. These two examples of ligatures were found on Old North at UCO, and a business sign on the corner of 15th and Boulevard.

Italics

Italics made their grand debut in 1501 by Francesco Griffo. They were actually considered a typeface at the time of their creation but later became a supporting type to roman characters as we know them to be today. The examples of italics showcased here are found in my personal library at home.
