High Holiday Master Class This class will include a discussion about the prayers and the music as well as a mini-concert presenting the best of the High Holiday melodies; featuring Cantors Chaim Dovid Berson, Yanki Lemmer (Lincoln Square Synagogue) and Zevi Muller (West Side Institutional Synagogue), along with special guest Mo Kiss of “Kol Haneshama,” accompanied by Maestro Eric Freeman and Cantor Sherwood Goffin. This annual event is free and open to the public.

One of the highlights of the holiday season is our annual Seudah Shlishit in the JC Sukkah. Join the community for a warm gathering, Zemirot led by our Chazzan and Divrei Torah from our Clergy. Following Seudah Shlishit all are encouraged to join us for Maariv and Havdalah in the Sukkah as well.

Seudah Shlishit in Honor of Our Chattanim Shabbat Bereishit • October 6th @ 6:00PM

Join us for this annual Jewish Center tradition as we celebrate with our Guests of Honor, the Chattanim of Simchat Torah (to be announced on Yom Kippur Evening). The program includes inspiring reminiscence of our Chattanim during their time at the shul, a gala Seudah Shlishit and an evening full of fun and laughter. Minchah will be held early at 5:30PM and the program begins at 6:00PM. Please join us for this unique Jewish Center tradition and celebrate the final event of our High Holiday season.

Rabbi Goldwicht, a prominent Israeli scholar and educator, is a Rosh Yeshiva of Yeshiva University’s Mazer School of Talmudic Studies and head of the Stone Beit Midrash Program.

Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur and Sukkot: The Sequence to Happiness Rabbi Benjamin Blech Shabbat Morning, September 22nd ∙ 10:30AM In the Main Sanctuary

Rabbi Benjamin Blech is an internationally recognized educator, religious leader, author, and lecturer. He is the author of twelve highly acclaimed and best selling books, with combined sales of close to half a million copies, including three as part of the highly popular Idiot’s Guide series. A recipient of the American Educator of the Year Award, he is a Professor of Talmud at Yeshiva University since 1966 and has formed thousands of student-teacher relationships through his warm and caring style. Rabbi Blech is known for his ability to present complicated ideas in a clear and entertaining manner.

Challah Baking For the Soul hosted by The Jewish Center together with JICNY and Kol HaNeshamah

Refreshments @ 6:30PM followed by Challah Baking Class @ 7:00pm. Come learn the laws and “how to” of challah baking, together with the special “segulot” connected to the mitzvah. Facilitated by Elahe Babazadeh, Dr. Adena Berkowitz, Naomi Goldman, Jodi Samuels and Julie Yusoprov. Prepare your own challah to bake and eat, as well as to share and deliver to those in need. Sunday, - Special Lecture September 16 Yeshiva University Kinus Teshuvah Lecture

Rabbi Dr. Ari Berman

Rabbi Dr. Ari Berman was elected Yeshiva University’s fifth president on November 15, 2016 and began his tenure in June 2017. A gifted leader, scholar, and orator, Rabbi Dr. Berman earned his B.A. from Yeshiva College, his M.A. in Medieval Jewish Philosophy from the Bernard Revel Graduate School of Jewish Studies, and his rabbinical ordination from the Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary (RIETS). Rabbi Dr. Berman has a broad range of distinguished experience in the worlds of higher education and Jewish communal life. In 2000, he became Rabbi of The Jewish Center in New York City. Simultaneous with his pulpit at the Jewish Center, Dr. Berman served as an Instructor of Talmud at Yeshiva College. After making aliyah to Israel in 2008, he completed his higher education with a Ph.D. in Jewish Thought at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Dr. Berman is an active and erudite spokesman for the Jewish community. He lectures widely throughout the U.S. and Israel, and has written numerous articles on subjects including current trends in Jewish thought and the future of Orthodoxy.

The Jewish Center Welcomes Sarah Cromwell

Sarah Cromwell has been active in synagogue youth departments for the past ten years. This past year, she served as a group leader at The Jewish Center. Sarah is a graduate of Muhlenberg College where she majored in psychology and double minored in public health and Jewish studies. After college, she worked at the Jewish Child Care Agency as a sociotherapist, working with youth in foster care with psychiatric diagnoses. She is currently enrolled in an MSW/PhD program in social work at Yeshiva University, Wurzweiler School of Social Work. Her interest is in child welfare and family therapy. As part of her graduate field work, Sarah spent last year working at Yachad leading relationship social skills groups, doing individual counseling, organizing and chaperoning programs, and performing assessments. In the coming year, in addition to her new position at The Jewish Center, she will be working at the Jewish Board of Family and Children Services.

Yom Kippur Appeal

The Jewish Center Yom Kippur Appeal is well underway. To those of you who have already sent in your donations and pledges, we are incredibly appreciative. Shofar Blowing

We would like to provide everyone with the opportunity to hear the Shofar on Rosh Hashana. If you or someone you know will not be in shul and would like to have shofar blown at home, we are happy to help! If you are able to blow shofar for us at any point during Rosh Hashana, please let us know as well. Yom Kippur Bikkur in the Home

Each year following Mussaf on Yom Kippur, a walking group leaves from the JC to visit with homebound members of our community that are not able to be with us in shul. This beautiful mitzvah is a wonderful way to spend Yom Kippur and cherished by those who benefit from our visits. JC Babysitting Network

The Jewish Center has been successfully building a babysitting network to connect parents with young men and women in our neighborhood who are available to babysit. Moshe Green Tochnit Elul Moshe Green was a prominent leader and long-time member of our community. He was an officer of The Center and served as our Chairman of the Board for decades. As a Jewish leader and philanthropist, he had a major impact on advancing Jewish Education, both in Israel and in the Diaspora. Involved in a number of different religious Zionist institutions and Torah U'Mada projects, Moshe Green was and continues to be a role model for our entire community. This annual series is sponsored by the Green family, and we are honored to perpetuate his name and legacy in The Center, which was graced by his presence and leadership throughout his life.
