Samika An adaptive fan like no other

Over Ventilating

Intermittent Extract Fan : Bathroom, WC, Kitchen and Utility room FOR CEILINGS

Guaranteed Installed Performance (GIP) Ensuring what has been designed for a dwelling is actually what is installed

Samika

Greenwood have launched a range of GIP products designed to assist in the delivery of Guaranteed Installed Performance on-site by being adaptive at the point of installation.

Adaptive extraction

Samika is the latest addition to the GIP product family.

The Issue:

The Solution:

Over-ventilating costs money! We have extensive experience of working with social landlords and one of the issues we are always asked about is energy performance and the cost of ventilation.

Samika’s adaptive extraction design and settings reduce heat loss by

By over-ventilating you increase: • Unnecessary heat loss • Energy usage • Nuisance noise And these are 3 of the key issues that we are always looking to reduce!

30%

*

We carried out a test on fan performance with the results revealing some were under-performing and over-performing. ** The fans that were over-ventilating were doing it by: • 53% in ducted applications • 42.5% in through wall applications Nearly twice as much extraction than required!

Samika An adaptive fan like no other

Adaptive Performance

Performance is everything Why would you specify a fan that might not extract air at the rate required as Best Practise for Regulations? Under or over-ventilating a home can be a serious issue, especially considering the huge insulation improvement measurements being made to existing housing stock. Under-ventilating can be caused by incorrect ventilation specification, over adjusted automatic controls or a product that’s not designed to achieve installed performance. Unfortunately it is often identified too late – typically by the presence of mould and condensation in the room or around the property.

With consideration of installed performance at the forefront of Regulation compliance and the need for ventilation to perform effectively, we are proud to launch the latest in intermittent extract technology – adaptive extraction. Ask yourself – do you want to specify a fan that can do what it says on the box everytime? Then say hello to Samika.

as incorrect ventilation specification and under sensitised automatic sensing controls such as humidity.

Over-ventilating can lead to high energy usage, unnecessary heat loss and nuisance running noise and is usually caused by similar issues such

know? Installation application and ducting have an impact on the performance of fans in homes – sometimes up to 50%**. Guaranteed Installed Performance (GIP) has been introduced through Building Control to ensure that installed performance is achieved and ventilation is doing what it should be doing.

Adaptive Extraction provides installed performance – a fan that does what it says on the box for windows, walls and ducted applications

So why have we designed Samika?

“I want a fan range that will fit all of my housing types so it makes life simple for installers and housing maintenance staff”

We want to make ventilation easy.

Adaptive to reduce energy consumption and unnecessary heat loss

“My fan keeps coming on in the early hours of the morning”

“When the light turns off, my fan seems to run on for ages”

Samika is designed with Greenwood HumidiSMART™ technology. The only humidity sensing technology that reacts to rapid increases in humidity;

Samika is designed with Greenwood TimerSMART™ technology. The most logical and only timer that bases the amount of time it over-runs by on occupancy duration;

e.g. - Knowing and sensing a spike from an activity like a shower, (whatever the relative humidity reading) rather than waiting for a generic humidity point to be reached.

e.g. - In the bathroom for 5 minutes, over-run for 5 minutes (up to a maximum of 15 minutes).

Why is this important?

di mi T™ HuMAR S

Occupancy and lifestyle can impact the level of moisture in properties - and this should be directly related to the amount of ventilation required in a property! Greenwood HumidiSMART™ knows what the normal humidity level is and when a spike occurs. With a generic point, every single time the humidity rises above the point the fan will activate – even in response to high ambient humidity on a summers day, and particularly in the middle of the night!

Samika is not like other intermittent fans. It’s sole purpose is to ensure total control of the ventilation which starts at the point of installation.

Under Ventilating The Issue:

The Solution:

Under-ventilation is a serious issue, and is often identified too late when the physical signs of mould and condensation are present in the room.

Samika controls ventilation based on the Installed Environment rather than using generic settings.

High levels of moisture and poor ventilation are typical reasons of why these issues occur and becomes a common topic discussed with social landlords throughout the year.

Because the installed environment is directly related to the frequency or amount of ventilation that may be required e.g. a family of 5 compared to two adults.

As nuisance noise can be an issue, especially in the middle of the night, the logical approach of Greenwood TimerSMART™, reduces unnecessary heat loss and energy usage.

Why? er ™ TimART SM

di mi T™ HuMAR S

We carried out a test on fan performance with the results revealing some were under-performing and over-performing. ** The fans that were under-ventilating were doing it by:

Unlike typical traditional timers on intermittent fans, this technology cannot be adjusted by tenants.

• 33% in ducted applications • 37.5% in through wall applications Therefore extracting at only 66% capacity! *based on comparing Samika and one other typical intermittent fan in a house with fans installed in kitchen, wc and bathroom operating for 1 hour per fan per day with seasonal heating factors applied.

**based on an independent test of 7 typical 100mm bathroom fans to BS EN 13141
