Understanding the unique character and legibility of different typefaces, using the addition and subtraction of the letterforms, we develop a better understanding of their differences. While highlighting their unique traits we also practice form and composition with variating quadrant compositions.

Tracing various letterforms across typefaces, I delve into constructing quadrants that not only showcase the typeface but create an ongoing composition, incorporating different letterforms to create a more cohesive look.

Using different weights and sizes of Univers, I study different compositional alternatives in regards to how these variations of form and content interact to promote a series of lectures about form and content. The designers included within the posters we make are additionally a part of developing a deeper understanding of typographic design and form.

Using designer Paul Rand’s book Design and the Play Instinct, images and text provided, I designed my own iteration of the famous designer’s work. Incorporating grid systems, my own personal designs, and the knowledge gathered from this course, I designed, refined, and bound my own version of the book.

creating the cover For me, beginning a project is the biggest step that always seems more like a leap. Creating the cover was my first priority as it creates the overarching theme of the design and the overall aesthetic that I look for as the designer. After endless sketches, digital drafts, and frustration, I finally decided on the cover and the rest just came to me.
