Rahileh Rokhsari Samara Gallery is pleased to present The Edge, a solo exhibition of new works by Rahileh Rokhsari. This body of work is inspired by her personal journey as a woman and the never ending dance between tradition and modernity. The Artist writes, “There is an inherent tension, uncertainty and sometimes fear when a woman steps into the modern world where masculine forces of capitalism dominate as seen in abundance in phallic skylines spread across the city…there is no escape from it. A woman has to learn how to walk on the edge, keeping her internal balance between feminine and masculine spirit and survival tradition and modernity.” Rahileh Rokhsari was born and raised in an artist family. After she graduated from the university with a Physics degree, she started practicing different styles and techniques under the supervision of accomplished artists in Iran. Deeply affected by colors, Rahileh’s initial paintings were inspired by the force and subtlety of light in live subjects such as the spiritual dance of Sufis in her “Rumi on Canvas” collection. Over time, the source of her inspiration has migrated to within and has taken a more abstract or surreal form. Subject and message still plays a central role in her paintings, even though at times she hides them within the multiple layers of forms and colors. Rahileh Rokhsari was born in Iran in 1975. Rahileh earned a MFA in Studio Arts in Painting from Akdeniz University, Turkey and a BS in Physics from Orumieh University, Iran. Rahileh has exhibited her work internationally in Iran, Turkey, Malaysia and the U.S. and her work can be found in prominent art collections.
