DEAR FRIEND, Jesus tells us, “I must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day; the night is coming when no one can work. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world” (John 9:4-5). Our world is getting darker every day, so our work as ambassadors for Christ has never been more urgent.

esus promises, “For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them” (Matthew 18:20). In many parts of the world, Christians risk their lives when they gather for worship or try to tell others about Christ. Samaritan's Purse assists Christian refugees who have been terrorized by ISIS, trains courageous church leaders in places where Bible schools are outlawed, and helps churches that have been bombed or burned. We have reconstructed hundreds of churches like the one pictured below in South Sudan, and right now we are rebuilding dozens in Niger that were destroyed by radical Islamic terrorists. A 300-seat church costs as little as $15,000. That’s just $50 per person to establish a house of worship, a place of ministry, and an anchor for the Gospel. here’s nothing like the joy of motherhood. However, joy can quickly turn to tragedy if a mother or baby does not get proper nutrition or medical care throughout pregnancy, birth, and infancy. Samaritan’s Purse is providing these vital services in a number of hard-to-reach communities in Asia, Africa, and Latin America as we work in Jesus’ Name to save lives and improve the health of moms and newborns. Your gift will help us operate birthing centers, educate women on nutrition, make home visits, and meet other urgent needs. As our Christian workers build relationships with these young families, God gives us opportunities to share the wonderful truth about Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. He promises, "I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly" (John 10:10). SUGGESTED GIFT $45 Prenatal & Maternity Care 013717

Many Cambodian mothers like Vichra live hundreds of miles from a city hospital. Traditionally, their babies are born at home, where medical complications can put them and their babies at risk. The infant mortality rate in Kratie Province where Vichra lives is seven times worse than in the capital of Phnom Penh. During the past two years, Samaritan’s Purse has built seven community birthing centers across Kratie Province to save the lives of mothers and babies as we demonstrate the love of God. “It’s safer and more comfortable to give birth here than at my home in the village,” Vichra said. “Here, we have clean water, electricity, and fans.” Skilled birth attendants provide support and are ready to

intervene with emergency care and referral, saving precious time and lives. Vichra heard about the birthing center when our Christian staff came to her village to teach families how to avoid malnutrition, as well as the value of prenatal care and birth preparedness. Through the ongoing care and witness of our workers, many mothers like Vichra are safely delivering their babies and raising healthier children as they come to know how they can trust our Heavenly Father.

As one whom his mother comforts, so I will comfort you.

The boy could not even speak his name, so they called him David, inspired by 1 Samuel 16:7: “For the Lord does not see as man sees, for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” David is now among more than 60 orphaned and abandoned children who live at the Greta Home. icodemus was an educated man but was full of questions the night he approached Jesus and said, “Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher come from God” (John 3:2). A good teacher commands respect and can shape generations. Sadly, there are few qualified teachers in parts of Africa that have endured decades of conflict, and no usable classrooms left in many villages devastated by earthquakes or storms. Recognizing the value of education, Samaritan’s Purse equips teachers and rebuilds schools in some of the hardest-hit communities where we work. A typical school costs about $20,000 per classroom. When you consider that over a thousand students may learn to read and write in that classroom in the years to come, that’s just $20 per student.

Last year, she was among 2,000 children in Trouin who received shoebox gifts from our Operation Christmas Child project and enrolled in The Greatest Journey. Through the 12-lesson discipleship program, shoebox recipients are invited to respond to the Gospel and learn how to share Jesus with others. During the fourth lesson, which focuses on Jesus' death and resurrection, Rosemène realized the wages of sin and prayed to receive Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. She couldn’t wait to share this news with her parents. Rosemène asked a local pastor to help her tell her mother and father how Jesus had changed her heart. Her parents not only accepted the pastor’s invitation to join Rosemène in church, but after the sermon, they too accepted Christ as their Savior. After that, they quickly realized that something needed to change at home. They had lived together for 25 years without marrying. The day after Christmas, they married and gave Rosemène the second greatest gift—a united family. She already had received the greatest gift of all— salvation in Christ. Now, her family is united in Jesus.

They both prayed to accept Jesus Christ as their Savior, were baptized in Lake Clark, and rededicated their marriage. “Tragedy can be something great because it really makes you think about what you have in this world—who’s important, what’s important,” said Jeremy. “Only God can turn something that horrific into a positive. A grove of fruit trees can bring life to a barren community. In many of the places we work, Samaritan’s Purse provides seedlings of avocado, papaya, mango, and other trees that can thrive even on the fringe of the desert. Your gift of $45 can supply a poor family with 30 seedlings that will feed and shade them for generations to come. SUGGESTED GIFT $45 Fruit Trees and Forestry Projects 013926

n the parable of the lost sheep, Jesus explains, “If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them goes astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine and go to the mountains to seek the one that is straying? And if he should find it…he rejoices more over that sheep than over the ninety-nine that did not go astray” (Matthew 18:12-13). Sheep are valuable to poor farmers—providing warm wool as well as a source of income for their families. For $80, Samaritan’s Purse can provide a sheep, llama, alpaca, or other wool-bearing animal and train families to care for their flock as we share the great love the Good Shepherd, Jesus Christ, has for them. adzo is a 52-year-old widow with eight children and three grandchildren. Four years ago, Samaritan’s Purse gave her four Galla goats, known as the “milk queen” of the arid regions of northern Kenya. Now, her herd has grown to 11, not counting several she has given to neighbors so they can raise their own. Each nanny goat can produce a liter of fresh milk every day, which helps keep Kadzo’s family healthy—with enough left over to sell. For $70, you can provide a goat or share in the cost of a dairy cow so that we can minister to an impoverished family in the Name of Jesus. SUGGESTED GIFT $70 Goats and Dairy Animals 013754

Putting His Hand to the Plow

weating profusely in the sweltering South Sudan heat, Bul Bul Akol wiped his brow and leaned on his hoe. Using his crude hand tools, he had been working hard for weeks to get his 15 acres ready to plant sorghum, which is the staple of his family’s diet.

Bul looked heavenward and prayed, “God, I need help to get this done.” A few days later, Bul’s prayer was answered when he met a Samaritan’s Purse worker who offered him an ox plow to help him farm his land. “Won’t that hurt my animals?” Bul

asked. In his culture, cattle are kept for ceremonial purposes but not for work. “If you feed them well, not at all,” our manager assured him. Bul was overjoyed. What a difference! It took him only four days to plow a field that would have

taken two months by hand. “I thank Jesus for touching the hearts of Samaritan’s Purse to help me and give me what I need to farm my land,” he said. Bul was so grateful that he didn’t want to stop plowing. “God told me that this ox plow was not only for me, but I should be a Good Samaritan to my neighbors and plow their farms too.”

esus knows the language of the plowman. “My yoke is easy and My burden is light” (Matthew 11:30). “No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God” (Luke 9:62). When we provide oxen for a hard-working farmer, we not only help him increase his harvest but also reap opportunities to share the Way of the Cross. Your gift enables us to provide an ox, donkey, or other livestock—or even a cart and a plow that will lighten the burdens of a farm family.

ood seed won’t thrive in bad soil. That’s a kingdom principle taught by Jesus in Matthew 13 that also applies in gardens today. Vegetables and grains need to be planted wisely and tended carefully to yield the hundredfold harvest that can sustain and bless a family. Working through churches and local Christian partners, Samaritan’s Purse provides farmers with seeds and tools that are appropriate for the particular soil and climate where they live. For a gift of $55, we can supply drought-resistant plants, fertilizer, tools, and training for gardeners and farmers as we sow seeds for the Gospel. hen the Lord sent Samuel to anoint the shepherd boy David as king, He told him, “For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart” (1 Samuel 16:7). It can be hard for people to look past outward appearances, especially if a child’s face is marred by a cleft lip or cleft palate. In some cultures, they may even believe the child is cursed. Samaritan’s Purse sends specialized teams to places such as South Sudan and Bolivia to provide outpatient surgery for hundreds of patients such as two-year-old Anna (pictured above). Your gift of $250 will enable us to cover the cost of this lifechanging procedure so we can show these boys and girls how precious they are in the eyes of God.

hen a blind man was asked how his eyes were opened, he answered, “A Man called Jesus made clay and anointed my eyes and said to me, ‘Go to the pool of Siloam and wash.’ So I went and washed, and I received sight” (John 9:11). Cataract surgery can be almost that instantaneous and dramatic. Praise God that in just one week last year, Samaritan’s Purse was able to restore the sight of over 500 adults and children! One grandmother was brought to our hospital totally blind, and just two days after surgery she walked home—rejoicing that she could see for the first time in years. Your gift of $50 will help cover the cost of simple eye surgery for someone who yearns to see, work, teach, or read the Word of God. SUGGESTED GIFT $50 Cataract Surgery 014012

srael’s days were numbered when the prophet Jeremiah despaired, “Is there no balm in Gilead? Is there no physician there?” (Jeremiah 8:22). Without adequate medication or proper equipment, there’s little a doctor can do. Samaritan’s Purse works with dozens of mission hospitals to make sure they are well-stocked with supplies and equipment to save lives and share the hope of the Gospel. Our World Medical Mission warehouse collects and services donated devices such as incubators, X-ray machines, and anesthesia machines, and our technicians install and maintain them in hospitals around the world. Help Renovate a Christian Hospital 39 T F

LWA Hospital in Liberia stands for Eternal Love Winning Africa. Its Gospel message is eternal, but its facilities have worn out. During the past 50 years, over 2.6 million patients have sought care at ELWA, and in 2014 it was a bastion in the fight against the Ebola epidemic. Samaritan’s Purse has been working to renovate and expand ELWA, adding 75 beds, operating rooms, and other facilities. We also have helped hospitals in Nigeria, Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Bangladesh to complete projects that they could never afford on their own. Your gift will help us build or upgrade surgical suites, emergency rooms, maternity wards, and other medical facilities as a lasting testimony to God’s healing power. “For His mercy endures forever” (Psalm 106:1) SUGGESTED GIFT $35,000 I SHARE THE COST $35 Hospital Construction and Upgrades 013805

hen a missionary doctor retires after decades of faithful service, who carries on the ministry? Who cares for the sick? Who runs the hospital? To meet these urgent needs, Samaritan’s Purse is raising up a new generation of medical missionaries through our Post-Residency Program. We offer twoyear assignments for young Christian doctors who feel called by God to dedicate their careers to serving overseas. This gives them the opportunity to put down roots in the mission field and build up a network of believers who will support their work for decades to come. Two-thirds of the doctors who have gone through the Post-Residency Program have made long-term commitments to serve internationally. It costs about $165 a day to support a doctor and family on the mission field. That averages about $8 per patient—a bargain in healthcare and a great investment in the Gospel. Adopt a Shoebox 41 NO.

hen the wise men brought their gifts to the baby Jesus, they told King Herod, “We have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him” (Matthew 2:2). Today, gifts from afar are still a wonderful way to celebrate the birthday of our Lord and Savior. Through our Operation Christmas Child project, God has given us unparalleled opportunities to touch the lives of millions of boys and girls in over 150 countries. Many of these children have never received a gift and never heard the true meaning of Christmas—until they open shoeboxes filled with gifts from people like you. Some of these gifts are packed by young children or people on fixed incomes who simply cannot afford to include the $7 we request for international shipping and related costs. When you adopt a shoebox, you are partnering with them to deliver their gifts and show God’s love to a precious child.
