Thesis Statement 001
The project proposal is a multi-faith center merged with an underground museum that translates the soul’s journey when it detaches itself from its physical state. That said, the proposal emphasizes the journey around a chronological time order of sequential life experiences and near-deaths. However, an inverse in time exists within, for this experience will rearrange people’s priorities in life. To emphasize, the journey is presented through three stages, and it is only after undergoing the first two the visitor will truly appreciate the light at the end of the tunnel. Lastly, the project is situated in Cape Verde, an overlooked island in the central Atlantic Ocean, targeting the locals and international tourists.
Abstract 002
The proposal is essential for two reasons. One, it aims to regain the Cape Verde’s buried identity. Second, it rearranges people’s priorities in life, reminding them the destination they currently reside in is a temporary stop before moving to the final stage of life. With that in mind, the project takes place in a buried structure that fell victim to the Pico De Fogo volcano eruption in 2014, intending to expose and solidify the raw truth of living in a time ticking world.
Abstract 002
The project addresses local and international struggles. Locally, my proposal addresses the shaken economic, environmental, and emotional states in Cape Verde due to the volcano’s eruptions’ aftermaths. Internationally, the project targets those whose elevated sense of spirituality has been bottled up due to life’s present distractions. To elaborate, the project intends to rebuild and reawaken what has once lost its consciousness and value. In other words, the sole purpose is to root for the concept of co-existence, tolerance, diversity, and form a sense of unity.
By presenting an underground museum and a performance art center, the economic state of the island will gradually boost and increase in profits. The project also offers spaces that welcome the all religions, as they all share something in common, regardless of their different religious backgrounds. Not to mention, presenting an underground museum will plant a seed of spirituality within each individual’s inner self, acting as a spiritual awakening experience.
Site Analysis
The intended site selection is in Fogo island’s crater located in Cape Verde; an island country composed of islands in the Central Atlantic Ocean. The elevated land of 1800 meters is highlighted and marked by a stratovolcano in Pico Do Fogo, which is the highest peak in Cape Verde. One of the distinctive features of the decided site location is the availability of local resources such as the ashes from the volcano. Also, there was a drop in percentages and poverty reduction rates and the decline of income inequality from 2001 till 2015.
The land itself presents two concepts, growth, and loss, as agriculture signifies the birth of life from the ground, whereas the volcano symbolizes the burying of life to the ground. Thus, analyzing the mentioned points contribute to the relevancy of the proposed project, as it revolves around the detachment and the restoration of the soul through spiritual and religious means, as there is no better place to propose the project than a place where life and death coexist with one another.
Building Analysis
Selection: Fogo Natural Park Venue
The selected building is ‘Fogo Natural Park Venue,’ situated in Fogo Island next to the highest point of Cape Verde, Pico Do Fogo Volcano. The project emerges from the need to establish the crater region’s identity, providing a foundation for the local population and visitors’ intervention. As a result, the project is divided into two zones, cultural and administrative zones, where recreational spaces interplay within the cultural zone, acting as a feasible solution for both the locals and the visitors.
The building’s selection is significant to my project, as it includes the sloped ramp element that acts as an observation deck, which will allow the users to get a full panoramic view of the surrounding landscape. Additionally, the building’s loop structure enables an extended underground loop structure extending below, connecting to its lowest slanted slope, & uniting the above realm with the underground realm. Moreover, Fogo Natural Park Venue implements sustainable architectural features.

The design concept revolves around creating a familiar atmosphere and lifestyle routine employed daily by architecture and interior design students; gridlines. A two-dimensional system is the starting point of all students’ design journey. Thus, the design intends to evolve and extrude these two-dimensional gridlines into a threedimensional experience. In other words, the grid-like structure mirrors designers’ and architects’ minds, enabling the students to step foot into their world of creations.
PRODUCED BY AN AUTODESK STUDENT VERSION
The design concept connects two things, the millennials, and a glitch. A glitch is usually observed as a sudden malfunction. However, the design concept approaches the glitch as a shift to something vaster. Therefore, the millennials are portrayed as the glitch for standing out amongst the other generations, due to having different views on the world to make it a better place.
Not only do the millennials want to impact others in the right way, but they are also known to be technologically influenced, compassionate, and creatively expresive. All in all, the design concept aims to highlight the importance of the millennials’ existence by relating them to a glitch and abstracting their unique features into the spaces.
The concept revolves around the connection between people, places, and things. The design intends to portray the relationship between two things by creating two pieces of industrial-looking products and seamlessly connecting them. Moreover, this design counts as an urban design, as it serves all its three purposes, the meeting place, the marketplace, and the connection place.
Additionally, the design fuses functionality, and aesthetic design. It functions as a stool, table, and a bicycle rack. When no longer needed, the product can be intertwined together to save up space.
