Introduction
The brief was to design a exhibition hall in La Triennale in the center of Milan, Italy. The objects to display was the collection from Museo Del Design 1880 – 1980, a collection consisting 129 objects, from 100 years of history. Represented by over 100 iconic pieces, creations of the great masters of International Design.

No. 14
Biagio
Egg
The No 14 chair was manufactured as separate parts and simply screwed together (six steam bent wooden parts, ten screws and two nuts). The solid wooden pieces got bent with the help of using a long metal strip to aid the bending process with steam. This construction technique was a precursor to the way furniture is constructed in our modern world. This was also an innovation in the nineteen hundreds.
Biagio is a table lamp which provides direct light and is one of the iconic traditional marble manufactured masterpieces by Tobia Scarpa, for Flos. The lamp body is carved from a single block of Botticino marble, resulting in unique finish for each piece.
The revolutionary moulding process developed by the Norwegian designer Henry Klein -that allowed him to create furniture from shaped plastic shells- was probably chosen by Arne Jacobsen (1902-1971) to obtain the peculiar shape of the chair. The particular shape of the frame requires a meticulous and skilled hand-tailoring work to fix the cover to it and this means that only six or seven chairs a week can be produced, even today.
Michael Thonet, 1859

The entrance is used as an introduction to the exhibition where the visitors get to follow a path of small organically shaped rooms, composed by different materials. Where in each room there is a projection showing the manufacturing process behind an iconic object from each category.

Savoy Vase
Wassily
Selene
The Savoy Vase also known as EskimĂĽkvinnans skinnbyxa, by Alvar Aalto (1898-1976). This best known design object from Finland is at the same time one of the most famous glass objects in the world. The vase has been manufactured in nearly a full spectrum of colours. Smaller versions of the vase, just as Aalto designed them with the seams visible and a slight curve at the base, are still produced by glasspressing at the Iittala glass factory in Iittala, Finland.
The famous Wassily Chair by Marcel Breuer (1902-1981) is the first ever chair to feature a bent-steel frame. The Chair was first built by Marcel Breuer at the Bauhaus institution in Dessau, Germany and Breuer found his inspiration for the chair in the bent form of a bicycle handlebar. The German steel manufacturer Mannesmann had developed a process to produce seamless steel tubing, the first to allow tubes to be bent without breaking at the seam, which inspired the designer to employ this material in furniture.
The Selene chair (by Vico Magistretti, 1920-2006) dates from a period of great experimentation with the materials of furniture-making. Designers and manufacturers in the 1960s sought ways to make chairs in single mouldings, so they would be cheaper and quicker to manufacture. The chair is made of compressionmoulded fibreglass. The innovative S-shape cross section of the leg gave the sheet material stability. The whole chair could be moulded as one, with only the feet needing to be clipped on. The chair is also stackable for space saving.

Sculped Pine Timber
Structure
Pine wood with its’ natural wooden pattern and straight grain is used for the wooden structure. Since it is easy to shape and work with this type of wood, it is perfect for our structure.
The stucture consist of a simple metal grid on feet, which is then covered with layers Pine wood. The objects are displayed on a black rubber carpet to highlight the object better.

Natural Granite
Structure
Granite is an igneous rock, which means it was once molten and formed as it cooled deep within the earth. Granite is a dense-grained, hard stone. It can be highly polished or finished in a variety of other ways.
The stucture consist of a simple metal grid on feet, which is then covered with layers of natural Granite. The objects are then displayed on a black rubber carpet to highlight the objects better.
Fabric
As our 3rd material, fabric takes a different form inside the exhibition. When entering the space you can’t help but feeling as if entering a forrest on another planet. Huge fabric trunks and canopies mimicing a beautiful glade.

Modacrylic Fabric
Structure
Modacrylics are soft, strong, resilient, and dimensionally stable. A modacrylic has properties that are similar to an acrylic. However, modacrylics are flame retardant and do not combust.
The stucture consist of a simple metal grid on feet, and another grid attached in the ceiling. Elastic fabric is then attached and suspended from the ceiling and covers the complete metal structure. The objects are displayed on a black rubber carpet.

Tempered Glass
Structure
This type of glass is about four times stronger than the normal annealed glass. These improved properties are a result of the stress profile that is induced in the glass by the Toughening Heat Treatment Process. 25mm thick.
The stucture consist of a simple metal grid on feet, which is then covered with layers of 25mm thick sheets of tempered glass. The objects are displayed on a black rubber carpet to highlight the object better.

Flattened Mesh
Structure
By passing the mesh through a set of heavy duty pressure rolls, the angled strands are flattened back to the original plane of the sheet. Flattened mesh allows for a more consistent open area and the finished product is easier to shear to close tolerances.
The stucture consist of a simple metal grid on feet, which is then covered with a flattened metal mesh. The objects are then displayed on a black rubber carpet.

Fiberglass
Structure
Fiberglass molding is a process in which fiberglass reinforced resin plastics are formed into useful shapes. The process usually involves first making a mold and then using the mold to make the fiberglass component.
