We’d like to draw your attention to the honey bee and its importance to life on this planet. There will be talks, events and performances all about it, not to mention plenty of opportunities to dress up and take part in your own ‘waggle’ dance – we’re all about alternative modes of communication!
You’ll have noticed the long and winding journey to get here. Knockengorroch is unique in its location, being possibly the most upland setting for a festival in the UK. We’re 850 feet above sea level. An upland environment is a unique experience wherever you experience it and we’re no different. Breathe in the fresh air, revel in the unpredictability of a mountain microclimate and enjoy our natural river valley amphitheatre.
From another part of the world, a little closer, comes our guest takeover Wormfood on Friday night in the Shieling, bringing a host of up and coming artists from across the UK playing a mixture of live electronics, floor filling afro, hiphop and global sounds plus a custom built visual installation from Rejenr8 VJs. Unmissable! Or, if you prefer, you can climb a hill and watch the stars, re-connect with the land, meet new friends or catch-up with old ones. Our Knockengorroch festival community spirit is second to none! Be free, be safe, be responsible. We are you. You are us. Lets celebrate together!

elcome. Fáilte! Its good to see you! Whether you’re a familiar face who’s been coming here since the dawn of time (well, 1998 actually), or this is your first time here, its great that you’ve joined us. We will do our best to make sure you have an unforgettably great time!
We will be holding a raffle for the charity Hand in Hand for Syria, which helps Syrians inside Syria, to help address this humanitarian crisis where we can. For a taste of some of the arts and culture from this part of the world make sure you make it along to the Reel Festivals event on Sunday in the Taigh featuring film, poetry and music.

BO-AIRIGH STAGE
amed after the ‘Cattle people’ of ancient Gaeldom our custom built, ttmber and turf roofed stage features a host of hand-selected performers whose music hails from across the continents. VIeUX FaRKa ToURÉ Often referred to as “The Hendrix of the Sahara”, Vieux Farka Touré was born in Niafunké, Mali in 1981. He is the son of legendary Malian guitar player Ali Farka Toure. Vieux’s latest album, Mon Pays (‘My Nation’), is devoted to reminding the world about the beauty and culture of his homeland, Mali. This predominantly acoustic undertaking honours the acoustic blues tradition of Northern and Southern Mali. “For me it is a statement for the world that this land is for the sons and daughters of Mali, not for Al Qaeda or any militants. This land is for peace and beauty, rich culture and tolerance.” Not only has Vieux broken through to contemporary audiences but he simultaneously remains one of the finest performers of desert-blues on the planet.
KaKaTSITSI DRUmmeRS Kakatsitsi are a group of traditional drummers, dancers and singers from the Ga tribe of Southern Ghana, with a number one spot in the African music charts and a Glastonbury performance with the Orb under their belt Their music takes traditional rhythms and chants from their own tradition and those of a variety of other West African cultures, rearranging them in a modern and accessible way. Since 1996, Kakatsitsi have toured the UK 9 times, and now they’re playing Knockengorroch!

Neville honed his toasting skills on the sound system scene in Coventry during the 1970s. Later in his solo career and with the reunited Specials, he would sing as well as toast. Neville had a string of chart hits with Fun Boy Three before forming the "The Neville Staple Band" in 2004, the rest is history! a Touré

DUB PISTolS
Ainslie and Henderson create a pipe sound that pushes the boundaries of what both Irish and Scottish instruments can achieve together. Henderson was a three-time AllIreland Champion Uilleann Piper at only 19 years of age. In 2003 he became the first Irish musician to win the prestigious BBC Young Musician Award. Ainslie hails from Perth and is a former member of the Grade 1 Vale Of Atholl pipe band, more recently playing with Flook, Dougie MacLean and Salsa Celtica. His recent work includes celebrating the connections between Scottish and Indian music. Dubbed ‘the new stars of Celtic Music’, the duo are two of the most enigmatic musicians to emerge from Scotland in recent years, creating a sound that is bursting with energy.
There’s gonna be some serious skanking going down on Saturday when legendary party-rockers the Dub Pistols mash-up their ska, punk, hip-hop, breaks, dub, and drum & bass. Barry Ashworth, formed the Dub Pistols in 1996 after previously promoting parties, singing in acid house band Déjà Vu and teaching himself to DJ. Terry Hall began guesting with the Dubs at live shows, and the band soon became firm festival favourites. The Dub Pistols’ punky-reggae party rages on, now doing damage with one of this year’s most potent musical brews, firing sugar-coated bullets at any recession depression. Their time has surely come.
aleJanDRo anD THe maGIc TomBolInoS Alejandro Toledo and The Magic Tombolinos are a multicultural 5-piece band hailing from Argentina, Portugal, Italy and Costa Rica. They are known for their energetic and extravagant performances and their fusion of music genres. The music combines elements of Balkan folk with Western mainstream music, fusing classical music and rock culture, punk and other world music styles.

TInDeRBoX oRcHeSTRa Tinderbox takes an orchestra out of its classical shell, fusing orchestral and electronic instruments to play modern and alternative styles of music. They write and perform original compositions, collaborate with bands and artists, and generally try to do something unique, innovative and exciting with an orchestra. The orchestra is made up of people aged 13-25 and aims to bring young people into the exciting contemporary music and arts scene in Scotland and further afield. A 25 piece orchestra will perform!
Kan
Gol GOL are a Scottish/Iranian band formed in Edinburgh in 2006. Plantec
Mercury Prize nominated Folk singer, song collector, promoter (of BBC award winning Nest Collective) radio host, TV personality, teacher and animateur, Sam’s recent work is inspired by songs learned 1st hand from the Gypsy Traveller community during a unique 4 year apprenticeship under the legendary, late Scottish Traveller Stanley Robertson. Sam Lee is one of Britain's finest singers and the most cogent force of his generation in British folk music.
Breton-based band Plantec is at the very leading edge of Celtic music. Their latest release, Awen, has received rave reviews for its avant-garde approach to traditional melodies. Led by brothers Yannick and Odran, these longtime musical innovators find the right mix of past, present and future. A mélange of traditional instruments (bombarde, acoustic guitars) and modern technologies (synths, rhythms) conspire to create a colourful cornucopia of finely-crafted and contemporary Celtic compositions.

Bombskare
The quartet is a unique melding of the bold and beautiful flute virtuosity of Brian Finnegan [Flook] from Armagh in the North of Ireland, with the expressive and daring fiddle dexterity of Aidan O’Rourke [Lau] from Scotland’s Isle of Seil, cemented by the organic and intuitive drumming of Harrogate’s James Goodwin and the unfettered, playful guitar reinventions of Ian Kan is a union of four of the finest, most influential, award-winning, in demand artists of the 21st century traditional music world.
Scotland’s 9-man ska juggernaut are back, after tearing up stages the length and breadth of the British Isles. Reaching zero to sixty skanking miles an hour in the space of three chords, they combine top quality dance-along songs with well crafted album tunes. Firmly established as one of the top live draws in the country, the band's expertise and sense of fun has made every performance truly special.
