Josef Müller-Brockmann ( May 9, 1914 – August 30, 1996) was one of the most influential graphic designers in Switzerland in the 1950s, period that saw the emergence of the Swiss Style, also known as International Typographic Style since it soon came to dominate the typographic layout worldwide. This style was implemented by Josef Müller-Brockmann and other designers seeking a universal visual expression. He was a key figure in the projection of the Swiss Style which played a crucial role in the history of modernism. This exhibition looks at the artistic movements which influenced his style, his professional life covering a vast collection of posters designed for the Zurich Tonhalle and the Swiss Automobile Club, his work as editor for the Neue Grafik magazine and his important legacy to contemporary visual communication.
