Approval of a Companion Relationship Between the Dioceses of California and Curitiba, Brazil
Whereas, to further strengthen the Anglican Communion through the direct experience of interdependence across cultural and geographic boundaries within the body of Christ and to strengthen one another for Mission by building a relationship in which each partner is both a giver and receiver the Diocesan Council, at the request of Bishop Marc Handley Andrus established the Companion Diocese Initiative Committee, and
Whereas, the Companion Diocese Initiative Committee, under the leadership of the Reverend Ted Thompson, after researching potential companion relationships, consulting with Bishop Handley Andrus and engaging in a thoughtful and prayerful discernment process, presented to Diocesan Council its recommendation to enter into a Companion relationship with the Diocese of Curitiba, Brazil, therefore be it
Resolved, that the October 2007 Convention of the Diocese of California endorses the formation of a Companion Relationship between this diocese and the Diocese of Curitiba, beginning upon approval of this resolution and continuing until the 2012 Convention of the Diocese of California or until terminated by mutual consent; and be it further
Resolved, that the Diocesan Council, with the advice and consent of the Bishop of the Diocese of California, be empowered to set up a representative Companion Relationship Commission to implement this relationship , including the recruitment of persons and congregations in the diocese to participate in this relationship.
