How to Create Printed Posters & Banners Using Adobe Using Adobe Photoshop (or other image editing software) allows you organize your own pictures onto posters and banners for your event or business. If you scan your photos to get them into a digital format, ensure the scanner is set to the highest setting so that you get the best quality digital pictures. An effective poster or banner focuses on a simple, single message and uses graphics to convey an ordered message. Use of posters and banners provides information, starts conversations, advertises a product or survey or promotes a program. Things You'll Need  

Instructions o

1 Design your poster. Generally, minimize your text and graphics. Arrange your visuals to attract passers-by. Text should be large enough to be read from 50 feet (or 15 meters) away. Use a column format, which makes your poster easier to read. Organize the information so that it is read from left to right. Balance your text, graphics and white space. Use a light-color background with dark-color letters and use two or three main colors. Avoid using dark backgrounds and light letters or more colors since this makes your poster difficult to read.

o

2 Locate images. Use free sources such as stock.xchng or gather your own pictures.

o

3 Open a new Photoshop Elements 7 file. Name your file appropriately so that you will remember it such as "Poster for February Training Event."

o

4 Enter values for width, height and resolution for your poster or banner. Common poster sizes are 11 by 14 inches, 12 by 18 inches and 16 by 20 inches. Continuous-roll paper available for inkjet printers measures 8.5,

11, 13 and 17 inches wide, with banner paper typically measuring 13 inch wide. Enter 300 or higher as the resolution value. o

5 Drag your image files onto the Photoshop window to open them, then drag them onto the file. Use the Photoshop resizing tool to resize them, if necessary. Use the "Move" tool to move your images around.

o

6 Use the "Horizontal Type" tool to add text. Use other Photoshop effects to finish your poster or banner.

o

7 Save your file in a format accepted by a local online poster and banner printing company, such as SameDay Printing, if you do not have your own commercial printer.
