Movement and Permeability As a comteporany performing arts school, we believe the building was supposed to hold spaces where experiments and criativity could take place, as the reception and auditorium for General Public, also the open classrooms for students and professionals. The second point is the importance of the context around, we wanted the bulding to relate with de old city centre of Rio de Janeiro. So the facade is semi-translucent and articulated to recreat a perfomance made as the building as a stage. As all the arts involves harmony and rithum the intern spaces and vertical circulations are fluid connected.

The Design Proposal The building is composed by two volumes, the first one is opaque, inconcrete holding the staff and technical programme. The second one is bigger and hold the teaching and public areas, built in steel structure, is visually permeable, where the vertical circulations get 100% translucent. Considerating the peculiar qualities of the site, the ground floor were designed to be the extension of the street, creating a space of multiple use, as exhibitions, performances, auditorium foyer, which we called organic arena. The auditorium is shaped in a circular form to get the audience closer to the performance, a experimental basis view. PRODUCED BY AN AUTODESK EDUCATIONAL PRODUCT

Multiple views which shapes the building

Cantinho do CÊu’s Harbor School of Music, Theatre and Dance

Revealing Views The design proposes light and soft volumes and lines, which can still contrast with the surroundings but without visual conflicts. Two volumes with the same high were shape accordingly the pedestrians views of the site, with the same high, but the right volume is half underground, to give acess to the water level. The connection between them is fullfilled with permeability. The sharp walls shapes the view to the harbor to the building, to the surroundings in the end generating a walk circuit full of surprises.

Modulation and Mixed Use The city centre of São Paulo is well know about the high urban density, still there many voids in the urban tissue, the objective of this module was to find a void, fulfill it with housing and other proper uses if needed. The site choosen was near a subway station but in a pecualiar street wich was very calm and quiet. The programme proposed is a mixed one, composed by hostel, co-working office, and housing. The main idea is to create a building focused in new way to live and to experience the centre.

New Brás São Paulo’s City Centre Urban Operation 2013 Profº Francisco Spadoni Daniel Y. | Juliana S. | Samantha Bosco

Semi-Open Blocks Close square x Open Blocks it is a very wellknown debate in São Paulo, while the city closes itself, architects who follows modernits principles try to open to its maximum. We were given a challenge to choose inside the perimeter of the Centre Urban Operation any site or region and make a proposal to it. We choosed Brás, which is a old industrial Neighborhood, that on the past decades has been transforming but with no urban intervention on the area. We proposed to recreate a new neighborhood secured on the Semi-Open Squares Idea, by remodeling a pack of blocks

All architecture is shelter, all great architecture is the design of space that contains, cuddles, exalts, or stimulates the persons in that space. Philip Johnson
