The Ben & Jerry’s story is as familiar to Vermonters as grass is to cows. The less familiar story is the one that puts the St. Albans manufacturing plant and its 250 employees at the epicenter of the nation’s Ben & Jerry’s habit. Over 25 MILLION gallons of ice cream are produced right here in Franklin County. That’s 2,854 gallons an hour. Right here in St. Albans. Satisfying the taste buds of millions of people across the planet is a responsibility these talented and dedicated Franklin County workers take seriously. It’s also a responsibility that extends beyond making ice cream; which is what adds distinction to the Ben & Jerry’s crew. We are committed to serving the greater common good of all those touched by our business. Our Franklin County employees have dedicated over 2,500 hours of volunteer work which represents a linked prosperity between our company and the customers, the communities and the partners we serve. We believe in giving back. Right here at home. As our company progresses, we strive to ensure that our employees, our communities and our partners all benefit. It’s through our relationships with such companies as St. Albans Co-op, Caring Dairy and many other socially responsible companies that we are able to sustain the mystique that has made Ben & Jerry’s what it is today. Some call it cow karma. If so, it’s Franklin County cow karma. And thank you Franklin County for being part of our story.

Against all odds, one car company survived it all. In a historic turn of events, faced with the real possibility defeat, Ford Motor Company rallied to overcome what some found to be insurmountable circumstances. With common sense, tough decisions, and leadership second to none, they not only survived, they prospered. And it was on their own terms. Using common sense, a long term plan for survival and growth, we are a very different company. With products that exceed all competitors in every category, including safety, quality and fuel economy, we stand tall. Ford has earned more 5 Star rating than any other brand! For the second straight year, Ford dominates the U.S. News & World Report 2013 Best Cars for the Money rankings, with six Ford vehicles offering consumers the most bang for their buck. And the best is yet to come! There are new products coming your way that will set you back on your heels……plus, they will be “best in Class” in EVERY CATEGORY! As a friend of mine in the business often says, “You will be satisfied.” I know it to be true. We thank you, for noticing and buying our products. That’s how the American tax payer votes! With our checkbook. With our hard earned dollars. With your loyalty to our “World Class” American products that take a back seat to no one, and never will. Barrette Ford is proud to have been your neighbor for the last 91 years. Our 14 long term employees are your friends and neighbors. We live next door. We make a living here. We belong to your schools. Barrette Ford is committed to you and your organizations. We have a strong belief that giving back to our community is an investment in our future. We are proud to do that. We owe that to our community for your support of our business. It is really that simple. Thank You, we look forward to serving you and your friends for a long time in the future.

ay Peak continues its remarkable drive to draw distinction to its four-season resort and the changes underway will thrill its legion of long-time aficionados and first-time visitors from across the globe. Over $25 million will be invested in Jay Peak improvements this year, with the highlight being the resort’s new Stateside Hotel, the construction of which began in May with the completion date scheduled for mid-December. • 84-brand new suites. • An 80,000 square-foot base lodge. • Restaurants, retail shops and a bar. The amenities that have become part of the Jay Peak experience tramside will now be available Stateside. And that is just part of the splendor that continues to unfold at the “largest construction project in Vermont.” 100 new dwelling units will be open for business by Christmas of 2013.
Special Supplement to The St. Albans Messenger » May 2013
Altogether – for the 2013 construction season alone – Jay Peak will be able to accommodate another 700 visitors. Wedding plans? Jay Peak’s Wedding Chapel will be complete this summer. It will be located between the First Tee and the 9th green and will be capable of seating 200 guests. [Spectacular views included.] There are the plans for zip lines, climbings walls, ropes courses and other outward bound-type activities. There is so much going on, and so much more in the planning stages that it’s hard to remember the fact that Jay Peak’s indoor water park – the Pump House – is only 18 months old, and still gaining in popularity. The 18-hole championship golf course continues to rank among the region’s finest and our Ice Haus Indoor Arena is second to none. We appreciate the support of our Franklin County patrons and invite you all to come for an extended stay.

VERMONT ORGANICS RECLAMATION We provide the Earth’s top soil (at 46% organic matter) by buying cow manure from the local farmers’ barns, bringing it to ours, and putting it through a one-of-akind recycling system. In the process, we reduce a farmer’s manure load by 20%, which prevents runoff that’s harmful to local watersheds.
– LICENSED CHILDCARE CENTER –
Our end goal: minimize the adverse effects of harmful materials on the environment. Vermont Organics Reclamation potting soil is also peat-moss free. We’ve begun a collaborative effort destined to revolutionize agriculture and minimize approximately 15% of our global carbon footprint.

t’s to the millionths of an inch and better at Vermont Precision Tools, Inc. It’s that precision that has earned the company the reputation that has drawn business world wide and why its customer base has proved so loyal that the company now employs almost 250 people at two plants, one in Kentucky, the other, at its life long home and headquarters, in Swanton, Vermont. The company was founded in 1968 by Norman C. Leduc and Raymond R. Boutin, with the vision being the need to satisfy an exacting consumer demand for precision tooling; knock-out pins, ejector pins, special punches, or virtually any small precision tooling. Its high standards meet the demands of both the medical tooling and automotive markets – two of the company’s leading business sectors.
Currently under the leadership team of second generation owner and President Monica Greene the company is enjoying strong growth and is optimistic about the future. The management team is exceedingly proud of its employees and the quality of the work they perform and the service they offer to their customers. We recognize our steady growth is directly attributable to the loyalty, dedication and enthusiasm our staff puts forward everyday. We are a growing business and proud of our company, our employees, and the reputation we have established with our customers. Monica Greene, President and CEO

TDH’s goal is to provide a high quality of professional service at an affordable price. The method employed to reach this goal is hard work, low overhead and skilled workers without the layers of management within a larger firm.
The Dr’s at Rainville Chiropractic offer a wide range of chiropractic techniques, passive modalities, nutritional supplementation and rehabilitation exercises for the benefit of our patients. The chiropractic techniques we use include Diversified (manual adjusting) Drop Table (Thompson Technique) and AK (Applied Kinesiology) Soft tissue techniques include Graston (an instrument-assisted soft tissue technique); Myofascial Release, Trigger Point Therapy (NIMMO) and a form of Active Release Therapy. Passive modalities are used in combination with chiropractic adjustments and soft tissue techniques to provide optimal care for patients. These include Electric Stimulation (IFC/TENS units) and Cryotherapy (ice packs.) Nutritional Supplementation is an important aspect of healing and maintaining wellness. The Dr’s will recommend various vitamins and minerals based on each individual presentation and complaint to best assist the patient in achieving optimal wellness. Rehabilitation of injured muscles includes stretching and strengthening exercises that can be performed in the office under the supervision of the doctor and at home for proper re-education of damaged tissues. Postural rehabilitation will also be offered to assist patients with learning proper ergonomics to be used in their work place and at home.

Creating a
stronger community one person at a time.
Eight StagES of DEvElopmEnt - There are eight stages of development during a person’s life.* The life cycle begins with the infant stage and progresses to toddler/ early childhood, followed by the preschooler and school-aged child stages, growing into adolescents then transitioning into young adult, followed by middle-age adult and finally, the older adult stage.
Each stage of development is marked by conflict for which a successful resolution will result in a favorable outcome. No matter what stage of development someone is in, it’s comforting to know that you can turn to Northwestern Counseling & Support Services (NCSS) in your time of need. NCSS provides intervention and a continuum of support to individuals experiencing emotional and behavioral problems, mental illness and developmental disabilities. * According to Erik Erikson (1902-1994), a noted Danish-German-American developmental psychologist, every person must pass through a series of eight interrelated stages over the entire life cycle.
The staff of NCSS’ Behavioral, Children’s, and Developmental Services Divisions collaborate with these Administrative Team members to provide services for each stage of development:

The company has an impressive history starting all the way back to 1898. Our company name at that time was M. Kirchberger and Co. We were known as a lighting fixture import house. Precision machined soapstone was used to build customized acetylene burner nozzle assemblies to help direct acetylene flames into miner’s lamps, antique chandeliers and first generation portable lighting. The company’s name was changed to Superior Steatite and Ceramics Corporation in 1945. We began producing more complex shapes and sizes of steatite based compositions used primarily in radio tubes, wire wound resistors for electronic devices and other general appliance ceramics. Superior Steatite relocated from New York City to New Jersey in 1953. The company began producing a high tech ceramic material known as “alumina”. This paved the way for supplying more sophisticated components to the welding and wear industries that all needed the alumina based materials for its strength and wear resistance. The company decided to relocate to its current location in 1975. The location was selected in part for easy access to natural gas which is the primary power source requirement for the very high temperature heat treating of nearly all of our ceramic materials. In addition, the owners of the business were avid skiers and had strong social ties to the Sugarbush Valley where they would soon establish one of their homes. Superior Steatite became Superior Technical Ceramics Corporation in 1985 adopting “STC” as the now well recognized company logo. The new

name more accurately reflected the highly technical nature of our expanding materials business and associated market share. During the next nearly 20 years, STC would expand the existing landmark building several times and acquire a second building across the street which would also be expanded to nearly twice its original size. The workforce would nearly triple from 1975 to 2012 as the business experienced a most impressive and steady growth. An amazing collection of talent from both the local area and across the country is just one of the reasons for our continuing success in a most competitive environment. STC believes that a strong growing company needs to reinvest in both its people and its equipment. We have shown that over more than 37 years here in Franklin County. Our reputation in the industry for high quality, on time delivery and “superior” technical support and customer service is second to none. This sets us apart from many of the other companies claiming to produce similar components into the competitive world wide market place. STC supplies components into many diverse industries world wide. These include aerospace, telecommunications, defense, plasma, welding, laser, semiconductor, oil and gas, wear, industrial ignition, thermal barrier, cyclonic separation, green energy and many more. We appreciate the overwhelming support received from the local and surrounding communities. Our nearly 125 employees are working hard to continue the rich 115 year legacy. It is one of our goals to help maintain the reputation of St. Albans, Vermont as a location for some very high tech manufacturing activity.

Alan purchased the business in May of 1995. Since then he has been growing the business and expanding their product line, including bringing in many new natural and organic products. We have a great deli that features smoked meat products with many new smoked cheeses added this winter. Come in and try our pulled pork and beef brisket sandwiches with our signature BBQ sauce. We offer a wonderful selection of platters including: meat & cheese; veggies & dip; finger sandwiches; crackers & cheese; and an assortment of gift baskets with fruit, cheese, crackers, wine or custom built for you! We participate in the Neighbor-2-Neighbor Program. It is based around the Shurfine label. For every case of Shurfine product we buy, our grocery supplier donates 5¢ to the program. Sylvester’s Market matches that 5¢ for a total of 10¢ per case. Then we take the money and make donations to local causes. We are proud to have contributed too many local organizations through this program.
