O VA L P AV I L I O N Reinforced concrete is being used to create the seaating area for the pavilion Lost formwork was being placed when we were there to pour concrete in situ The concrete will have timber cladding to create and appealing and confortable seat for the visitors

To protect the oval a 1m deep retaining wall has been installed consiting of mash concrete topped with tiling to finish The main wall consists of hollow concrete blocks backfilled withe reinforced concrete

To reduce water collecting on the site aggi drains have been installed underneath the retaining walls to remove the water from the site.

PRIMARY STRUCTURE Consists of four main supports mad of wood collums and steel beams

The beams connect to the engineered wood by bolting on a metal plate that sits in the middle of the wood

SECONDARY STRUCTURE Z purlins are used as these are easier to use over lengthy spans like this building they can overlap each other making it more pratical The steel and alluminium framing on the outside prodives slight lateral support but mostly provides the canvas for the curtain wall

They will be using toughened glass as the pieces are quite exposed and large The roof structure consisits of an extra ‘layer’ to provide noise releif for the site

OTHER INTERESTING DETAILS To add interest to the concrete outside they decided to use an oregon wood to add a pattern to the concrete

The ouside cladding mainly consists of a tounge and groove system of wooden planks These planks have a hidden screw behind each connection point so it looks pleasing to the eye and gives the impression of one piece of material

The walls and internal floor have been raised 25 mm to ensure water protection for the ouside A protective sheeting was placed underneath each timber frame to stop termites from attacking the wood
