EXT. REMOTE COUNTRY LANE. DAY A road somewhere in the UK. It is autumn, and leaves are blowing. Drizzle fogs the air. A car rounds the bend and drives slowly along the lane. INT. CAR. DAY Father and daughter arguing. Dad shaking hand in anger. Daughter sat in the back looking disappointed in herself. KYLE (In an authoritive, angry voice) What do you mean you didn't revise for your exams!? SARAH (In an intimidated voice) I just forgot, alright? KYLE (Calming down halfway through sentence) Forgot? Just wait until I talk to your mother! SARAH Oh whatever... Wait. Who's that outside? EXT. REMOTE COUNTRY LANE. DAY Girl walking along the lane slowly with her head drooped down. Wearing a ripped, muddy dress holding her thumb out. Long dark hair covers her face. INT. CAR. DAY Father starts to slow down to pick the girl up. SARAH Why are you stopping daddy? KYLE Oh come on shes only a young girl. What if you were on this road all alone? Sarah opens passenger door and lets the girl into the car. Father turns around to ask where shes going. KYLE Where to young madame? MYSTERIOUS GIRL (Said in a quiet, blunt manner) In a house 5 miles up. KYLE

Okay, righty-oh then. Girl turns her head towards the window, hair still covering her face, and stares out of it. SARAH (Whispers in her fathers ear) Daddy she scares me. KYLE (Whispers back) Don't worry it's only up the road. Sarah turns her head to look out the other window in order to ignore the strange girl. EXT. DRIVEWAY OF A LARGE COUNTRY MANNER. DAY Car pulls around another corner and up the driveway towards a large country manner. Car pulls up in front of the doorway. INT. CAR. DAY Kyle turns to speak to the girl. KYLE (Spoken at first normally but then surprised) Here we are madame, we have arri.... Kyle suddenly stops talking. The girl has completely vanished. KYLE (In an extremely bewildered manner) What the...? SARAH Whats wrong daddy? Sarah turns to face her dad. KYLE She... she's gone? Where'd she go? Did you see her leave? SARAH I didn't see anything, I was looking out of the window. Kyle scratches his head in disbelief. KYLE Well we'd better check she got home okay... They both open their doors and exit the car together. EXT. DRIVEWAY OF A LARGE COUNTRY MANNER. DAY

Kyle and Sarah approach a large wooden door with a knocker and kyle starts to tap it. The door swings open and a run down lady stands in the opening. LADY Can I help you? KYLE Hello. Kyle smiles but the women doesn't grace him with a response. Her face stays plain and lifeless. Kyle coughs. KYLE Urm... I just gave a young girl a lift here. She was hitchhiking down the lane. She said she lived here. The ladies face brightens as she hears the news. LADY (Spoken hopefully and hastily) A girl!? What did she look like? KYLE Urrr... White dress, long dark hair? LADY That sounds like... Jessica? The ladies face lights up some more. LADY (Said in a demanding way) Have you seen my Jessica? KYLE Well... I did bring her here, did she not come in? I thought she came in? The ladies face drops again as she realises her daughter is not with them. LADY No... I haven't seen her for years. She went missing years ago. It's said that she was hitchhiking down that very road... The father and daughter look at each other in further disbelief and then back at the lady. LADY (Spoken quitely) Today is her birthday... The lady starts frantically sobbing in the doorway. Kyle and Sarah start walking backwards towards the car. SARAH

I'm sorry to hear that... KYLE Well, we'll be going now. Sorry to bother you. Kyle and Sarah enter the car. The car hastily accelerates out of the drive and back onto the road. INT. CAR. DAY Kyle looks at Sarah still in shock. KYLE I'm never picking up a hitchhiker again. SARAH (Slightly shaking) I agree, never again.
