“Pollination” Studio 6
Course: City within a city Typology: Mixed Use Location: Mayfield Woolworths Site Studio 6 Overview:
This project’s aim is to develop a housing model which would be able to house 10% of this influx and to develop a strategy which would be rolled out across Newcastle to help solve this housing crisis without increasing urban sprawl and to help reduce the dependence on cars. Pollination will be backed by a financial model which allows it to be designed to help individuals trying to break into the housing market and to help first time renters move out of home. The project will be designed with a kit of parts which would allow for this model of housing to be rolled out across a range of sites with little to no alterations to designs needed.

“NuArch Uni” Studio 5
Course: NuArch Typology: Mixed University and Residential Apartments Location: Newcastle Civic Park Studio 5 Overview:
This project was developed around moving the Architecture Studio into the city as part of UON’s push towards a city centered campus. We had two sites available for this project one on King St and the other on Hunter. The design of the studio needed to accommodate all the functions of the Architecture Studio whilst also acting as a part of the larger University footprint including accommodation, study and lectures spaces for the rest of the Uni. My design for the building aimed to create a compact core along the west side of the building to create large open floor plates which would allow for a wide range of use cases and flexibility, and instead of Uni accommodation I opted to include 2 floors of residential apartments.

“Interstices” Studio 4
Course: Radical Domesticities Typology: Residential Apartments and Public Space Location: Newcastle East End Stage 3 Group: Jordan Ritter, Peter Ellis, Chloe Baker Studio 4 Overview:
For Studio 4 we looked at the East End Development and were given stage 3 for our site. We were tasked to create a manifesto which would guide our work. The studio looked to challenge how we live and see how we could mix domesticity and leisure within the one project. Within our group we decided to challenge the concept of apartment blocks and look at how we could create stronger communities and mimic some of the great characteristics of European cities.

“Blade House” Studio 3
Course: Beaumont St Utopia Typology: Residential Housing Location: Beaumont St Canal Studio 3 Overview :
The studio focused on creating adaptable housing and creating public spaces to try and bring communities together. We were given segments of the rain water canals in Beaumont St and needed to create housing which could easily be adapted to a set of 3 different clients. These houses needed to be on stilts to stop the risk of flood damage and to create open space for the community.

“Glider House” Studio 2
Course: Exhibiting Kooragang Typology: Public Space Location: Kooragang Island Studio 2 Overview : This studio focused on creating an art exhibition space for both the inhabitance of people and animals without one taking priority as well as revitalising the area of Kooragang Island. For this project I was given an endangered species of sugar gliders to design my the building around. The design for the project had the building set into the ground with a timber lattice structure surrounding the building acting as artificial shelter for the gliders as the trees around the project grew to size. The building was used as an art exhibition space with the surrounding terraced landscape being an area for people to gather and watch performances.

The building was designed around the idea that at the end of its life cycle the forest planted around could slowly start to take over the structure and be used as a shelter for other endangered species
