Nomads in the Red City Rough earthen walls and floors, swathed in textiles, colors and tapestry, make up the shape of the city. Marrakech: The Red City, the ruby of North Africa. Rich, vibrant, emphatic and proud. As colorful in color as it is in culture. Sun soaked, wind polished and perfectly patinaed. When the clammering of the city and the chaos of open air markets become too much, escape to the Atlas Mountains and retreat into the Ourika Valley. Our endless exploration of time and vision merges with our perpetual quest for balance and contrast, to bring us here. We rode in on the winds of time, which carried us over the Moroccan desert, to this beautiful place suspended firmly between the past and the present.

The Collection The energy, culture and vibrancy of Marrakech is rivaled only by its aesthetic, tactile and visual beauty. For our Spring/Summer 17 collection, we immersed ourselves in this unique North African landscape and emerged, rich with inspiration. We absorbed the color palettes, textiles, architecture, landscapes and culture of The Red City, and channeled them into new and existing timeless Komono eyewear.
The Memphis Metal Series The Memphis Series was inspired by the Jardin Majorelle. Originally erected in the center of Marrakech by french painter Jaques Majorelle, and later acquired by Yves Saint Laurent, the Jardin Majorelle is an architectural and botanical oasis within the city. The Komono Memphis Series pays homage to the Jardin Majorelle’s use of vivid color and striking architecture by rendering our Clement, Francis and Vivien in dramatic red and blue matte finishes over rubber coated frames and metal temples.

The Rose Quartz Series Borrowing from its namesake stone, the Rose Quartz collection evokes love, feminine strength and fertility. A warm translucent pink frame is complemented by a cool translucent turquoise temple, bringing harmony and contrast to our Vivien, Lulu, Coco, and the all new Phoenix styles.

The Finley The all new Finley is a complex frame. Light to the touch but heavy in style, the Finley’s metal frame and temples are a geometric alliance of round and square. The clean, utilitarian metal aesthetic is bolstered by a simple black matte or silver boutique finish.

The Medina Series The new Medina Series brings a subtle yet distinct embellishment to new and existing Komono frames. Inspired by the bustling North African medina markets, our Medina Series features a thin silver ring embedded between the frame and lens. The brand new Madison and Devon frames get the funky chrome Medina treatment, as does our classic Bennet style.

The Atlas The Atlas Series is a new addition to the SS17 lineup and another manifestation of our journey to Marrakech. The translucent amber and olive temples and frames adopt their tranquil hues from Morocco’s imposing Atlas mountain range. The Madison, Renee, Clement and Vivien frames all received the earthy Atlas treatment.

For Spring/Summer 2017, we recruited two of our favorite nomads. Nuria Val from Barcelona, is a photographer, model, and globetrotting creative director. She’s been an active member of the Komono family for some time and we felt she’d blend in and stand out perfectly in the sun soaked streets of Marrakech. We also brought along Creations of L.A. Dubai/L.A. based Luaiy Agial is wanderlusting and perpetually creating. He brings a portfolio of work as varied as his heritage. Luaiy Agia is a renowned photographer, creator and above all else… culture hustler. These two are both shining examples of our roster of nomads of style, and perfect tour guides through our Marrakech expedition.
