Join us for the 75th Laymen’s League Mens Retreat at Camp Arcadia. Come together to learn and praise God with the beautiful Lake Michigan as our backdrop. Enjoy swimming, golfing, and our annual softball game while developing a stronger faith.

Rev. Dr. Dale A. Meyer, now President Emeritus, served as 10th president of St. Louis Concordia Seminary from 2005-2020. In addition to his role as president, he also served as a guest instructor (1979-81), assistant professor and director of Resident Field Education (1981-84), Gregg H. Benidt Memorial Chair in Homiletics and Literature (2001-05), and interim president (2004-05). His first call was as pastor of St. Salvator Lutheran Church in Venedy, Ill., and St. Peter Lutheran Church in New Memphis, Ill. (1974-81). He was senior pastor at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Collinsville, Ill. (1984-88). He was speaker of The Lutheran Hour radio program from 1989-2001. Through 2003, he hosted the national television show On Main Street for Lutheran Hour Ministries. He has been speaking and preaching for more than 40 years. His areas of interest and study include 1 Peter, the church in a changing culture and the Sabbath applied to life today. He lives in St. Louis with his wife, Diane.

They have two grown daughters, Elizabeth (Darren) Pittman and Catharine (Charles) Bailey; and five grandsons, Christian, Connor and Nicholas Pittman, and Andrew and Jacob Bailey.

The 2020 retreat marks the 6th time that Dr. Meyer has been with us at the Arcadia LLL Men’s Retreat.

He previously served as retreat speaker in 1990, 1994, 1999, 2004, and 2015.

Rev. Dr. Evan Gaertner has been serving, since May 2018, as the senior pastor at Our Shepherd Lutheran Church, School, and Childcare in Birmingham, Michigan. After graduating from Lutheran High School North in Macomb, Michigan, he went to Valparaiso University. He graduated with a degree in Classical Languages and Civilizations, which is a helpful degree for someone preparing to be a pastor but not much else. His pastoral formation began at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis. Then he continued learning how to be a pastor through the gracious welcome he received at his first call to Grace Lutheran Church, Niagara Falls, New York. After serving in Niagara Falls, he spent ten years sharing the gospel at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Hamburg,Michigan. Along the way he earned a doctorate in preaching. His thesis highlighted how preaching the catechism, the chief parts of the Christian faith, is an important part of faith formation in a congregation. He has enjoyed the opportunity to be an adjunct instructor at Concordia University, Ann Arbor. He is an Iron Man, completing Iron Man Louisville in 2016. Christi, his beautiful wife, is a teacher at Our Shepherd. Henry and Lucas, his two boys, attend high school at Lutheran High Northwest.
