How to Treat a Dental Emergency

Even how much prepared we can be, there will still be instances that we can never anticipate it to happen. Dental disasters can occur anywhere, anytime and to anyone. When someone feels an extreme pain just past midnight, you can't quickly get a hold of an emergency dentist to do the right treatment at once. Nevertheless, there are still chances of enduring the pain by simply following these tips.

Toothache This condition is very common among all of us. In cases like this, we tend to take a pain reliever first before we set an appointment with our dentist. Although the pain reliever can somehow take away the pain, it is better if we rinse it with water and gently floss around the affected tooth. Notify your dentist at once if the pain kept on persisting.

Loose Tooth One of the most painful experiences we can have is having a partially dislodged tooth. Even how much we want to take it off, we can't just do it because it gives us extreme pain. In cases that you can't go to a dentist right away, you can take a pain reliever. Applying a cold compress to the area where the tooth makes it more possible to endure the pain. But, this is just a temporary remedy for the pain. It is better to have a settled appointment with a dentist right away.

Tongue or Lip bite with excessive bleeding In situations that you accidentally bite your lip or tongue, you must rinse it with warm water with salt. After you're done rinsing, place gauze and apply a cold compress to lessen the swelling. If the bleeding persists, it is recommended to go to the hospital right away.

Lost filling or crown If a filling or crown falls out, there is no way to reinsert it again. You'll just have to put it in a safe place and make sure you get an early appointment with your dentist. One remedy for this kind of situation is by applying a clove oil to the areas of the mouth which are sensitive. Dental cement can also decrease the sensitivity, but it is better if you consult it first with your dentist before doing anything.

Knocked-out Tooth In the event that your tooth has been totally dislodged from the root, one should rinse it if it's dirty. But, one should do it carefully because some tissue may be removed accidentally. You can also try to insert it to the socket but you can't do it well, seeing a dentist is a better idea. The ADA further recommends that the knocked-out tooth be placed in a container with milk until you have seen your dentist.
