logbook front cover
i
Inspired by the last cover I decided to create “5 out of the log. Once I had the shape and curves I added the lines and little stumps. I experimented with the colours but found the original worked the best.

THOUGHT PROCESS
i
I wanted to create something that represented my thought process while trying to achieve an idea. Very experimental but always moving forward. I took it into Photoshop to make the grainy, speckled effect to make the post look more organic.

PHOTOSHOP of friends
i
my friend josh posted a photo of him at a work retreat and I felt it was a great opportunity to create some funny photoshops, I couldn’t resist. SO heres josh on a rollercoaster, at the royal wedding and driving a truck. I cut him out and messed around with hue & saturation, brightness, levels etc.

west side story poster
i
Kate presented me with the brief for Capa, a drama academy based in Wakefield. They were looking for poster designs for their production of West Side Story. After researching into the play and looking at the previous design redwall had created for them I got to work. Capa had sent images from last years performance so I used photoshop to cut them out make them black and white.

i
My designs focused on the branding from the original play, the new york style stairwell. I felt it perfectly described the escalating relationship between the two main characters and the subsequent gangs of the play. While I focused on a basic design at first I added imagery from the previous plays, either by cutting them out or filling space with full images.

I decided to play with the text, layout and colour. I feel my poster accurately represents the play and uses the main graphic to bring flow and interest to the information. I think If I were to revisit this I would put more focus on the couple.

OTHER CONCEPT
CHOSEN DESIGN (BACK)
Jo wanted some baby prediction cards doing for that weekend, so I got started as soon as possible. She sent me some inspiration of designs she already liked. I created two initial designs, one that followed the inspiration closely and another that I felt was more interactive and visual, nevertheless jo liked the other design and after a few amends it was ready to print.

LOGO RECREATION
Another recreation project from wyn. I had to remake the logo so they had a good quality version to use for design. THe logo was quite easy to make, i created my own art brush by creating a pattern. THis made the design much easier to create than just tracing it.

Logo design round 1
The first concept visually represents the greek goddess Bia. She is holding a wreath and bursting out of the letter ‘B’. This makes her the focal point of the design and the first thing you notice. Bia integrates well with the logo, whereas the second logo she is more subtle and contained within the letter.Bia’s stance asserts power and leadership making her a strong symbol for the peer support group.
i
Karen Addington, ceo of jdrf UK, was looking for pro bono LOGO design. My sister put me in touch and I learned of Bia, A peer support group that has been operating privately BUT was BECOMING MORE PUBLIC after publishing articles on thought leadership. Bia refers TO THE greek goddess of strength BUT IMAGES OF HER DEPICT HER WITH BARELY ANY CLOTHES AND KAREN DIDN’T THINK THIS WAS APPROPRIATE FOR A CHARITY SECTOR LOGO. I decided I would physically represent her with one design but also create some alternatives that relate to the group.

i
logo description sent to karen Concept 2 focuses on sharing experiences, ideas and resources by creating a flow of information represented by the dotted line. The “i represents an individual within the peer support group. Information is going into the i and emanating from it to symbolise the sharing of experiences, ideas and resources. While this is more of a basic design its accurately depicts what Bia does and how it operates.

Similar to concept 2 the logo focuses on sharing and connectivity. The use of a serif font makes the logo look more professional. It visualises the bonds and trust enveloped within the group. The dots are also in the shape of a W to represent the women leaders that form the group.

Logo design round 2
i
At this point I had received feedback from my three initial designs. Karen said she’d share my designs with the group and relay it to me. The group liked the first concept with Bia inside the b but they had reservations on the image of the woman, they were worried she looked too much like an athlete rather than a professional leader. The group gave suggestions to put different imagery inside the b to represent the benefits of being in the group including; “access to resources, ideas, confidence, a safe space to discuss problems and issues, thought leadership, training, resilience, work/life balance.”
logo description sent to karen The first logo returns to the literal representation of Bia. Using white it creates the illusion of the letter while visually representing the goddess. This design is less likely to be misconstrued as an athlete because of the head wear. The logo amplifies the traits of power and leadership while being professional and respectful. The second logo is more straight forward but uses the Greek pattern to emphasise the goddess connection.

Logo design round 2
i
logo description sent to karen This design is brand new and is inspired by the benefits mentioned in the email: “A safe space to discuss problems and issues The shape created from the icons is hexagonal which represents the safety, security and trust in the group. The different colours could represent the other benefits of being in Bia or one colour to simply represent the group. The type fits well with the design and intergrates well. I also included a lightbulb in the centre of logo to represent ideas created and shared within the group.

Focusing on putting other images into the letter B. I started thinking of what objects represented the group well. The most professional and accurate looking logo is the speech bubble design. It represents the discussions and interactions within the group, placing the speech bubbles at both ends of the word symbolises the conversations held within the group. The second design puts more emphasis on benefits of having access to the groups ideas while having the ability to submit your own. Also, the bulb is within the B which helps create the “safe space.

wordpress website design
i
I decided that I needed a website to showcase my work. While I have the bulk of my work online, it’s dotted about & I feel like its not reaching enough people. I wanted to create a colourful, visual and professional website that looks attractive and descriptive.
THIS IMAGE FEATURES ON EVERY PAGE. ITS A LINK BACK TO THE HOMEPAGE AND NAVIGATES THE USER VISUALLY TO THE WORK ON DISPLAY. I WANTED SOMETHING QUIRKY BUT SUBTLE SO THAT IT DIDNT SUBTRACT ATTENTION from THE WORK.
tags // LINKS 20
USING TAGS & LINKS, THE ABILITY TO ACCESS AND FIND SIMILAR WORK IS STRAIGHTFORWARD. THIS IMPROVES FUNCTIONALITY AND MAKES THE WEBSITE EASIER TO NAVIGATE.

Promotional gif

After going through the website making sure everything was correct I decided it was time to tell the world about it. I wanted the gif to be informative yet simplistic. I used the RGB blue, pixelated logo, mouse and click icon to infer that I was launching a website. After posting the gif I received notifications from wordpress that my site was receiving a lot of traffic. The gif can be seen on my instagram: solution_gd

Each project is represented by one image on a colourful background. These are easy to understand, intriguing and show a snippet of each project. They make up my homepage so I wanted them to be bright and attractive.
