PATHFINDER Rule Book

WELCOME!

Pathfinder is a brand new board game designed and created by Samuel Barran. The idea behind the game was to visualise the path we make for ourselves to achieve the future that we want. The game uses a dynamic of knowledge and luck to provide the realistic unpredictability of the actual future. I also chose to do a board game because I think they bring people together and evoke happiness. Especially if you win! It is also an example of being social without using the internet. So without further ado, here’s what you need and how to play:

YOU WILL NEED: BOARD SLIDERS QUESTIONS DICE COUNTERS

SETUP:

The game is set up by placing the sliders in their corresponding slots. Slider questions are placed adjacent to the slider. The example shown is one way of setting up the sliders, they can differ as long as the colours aren’t lined up with the starting and end squares. Counters are placed on the starting squares and the game begins when players have decided who goes first.

RULES: The aim of the game is get your counter from the starting square to the end square. To do this players must answer a question correctly and subsequently roll the dice to find out how many squares they can move the slider they are on or the one in front. Players must ask each other the questions (Answers written below question).

they do not have to answer another question on that slider (until player is on final square questions) but has to roll to progress. Sliders must be on at least two squares of the board at all times.

Players have to line up their colour with the same colour on the next slider to progress. If a player’s square is already lined up at the start of their go they only have to answer a question correctly to progress.

Once a player reaches the final slider and answers a question correctly they move that slider to line up to the end square. Unlike the other four sliders, a player must keep answering final square questions correctly to roll.

The sliders can be moved left and right but the player can only change direction once during their turn.

If a player manages to answer The game is won by reaching the final the question correctly but doesn’t square first. manage to progress to the next slider
