I have always had an interest in design which started as far back as secondary school; then going to Cleveland College of Art & Design (CCAD) gave me a clearer pathway into the world of design. Whether it was drawing or designing the interiors/ building exteriors or the products that go in them. My continued passsion for photography helps me lock specific details into my designs. Inspired by the camera and it’s intricacy or if it was down to the fact that I am able to capture a moment in time by the click of a button in such a fast paced lifestyle. This caused me to try to create unique, elegent products influenced by everyday life.

CC LAMP Copper - Concrete

AIM:

The aim for this brief was to create a product from recycled or semi - recycled sources.

FINAL OUTCOME: ‘CC Lamp’. This unique product is made from only two materials. That being copper and concrete.

The copper piping was placed straight into the wet concrete mix. This formed a far stronger bond.

To allow the lamp head to move up and down, there are adjustable nuts.

This section of the light is where the bulb and elecronics are kept. It will simply click on and off for cleaning.

There is another set of nus and bolts which allow you to move the lamp bracket back and forth.

The Copper-Concrete Lamp

QFC - Arton modular sofa Copper - Concrete

AIM: For this project we worked on a live brief given to us by QFC. The brief stated that the design had to be for open planned living that would be sold at either John Lewis, Next or Ikea. FINAL OUTCOME: ‘Arton modular sofa’. This is the finished piece offering mutiple layout styles and lots of comfort.

The tray is made from solid wood but there is another model that allows the buyer to have it wrapped in fabric if they don’t like the natural finish.

Removable cushions. This allows the user to take them out the tray due to chair shortage or if there are a lot of guests. Also can be used as a footstool.

The sides of the tray are high enough to house the individual cushions but aren’t too high that it is uncomfortable to sit on. Also gives more support for when the backs/arms are on.

Short wooden legs which raises the tray off the ground allowing storage underneath and also creates a unique finish.

ARTON offers a wide variety of different layouts. This is down to its unique design using 18 indiviual cushions situated in a birch plywood tray, this allows the user to change layouts with ease. This piece is ideal for open planned living as well as conventional box rooms and also offers the function of becoming a single bed with thr removal of certain components.

Phillips - LJUD speaker Copper - Concrete

AIM: To design a personal homeware product. FINAL OUTCOME: ‘LJUD speaker’ designed for Phillips.

The logo is made from metal and is in-layed into the speaker creating a clean finish. Also the speaker systems are covered in a grey mesh so that they can’t be damaged.

The legs are made from brushed aluminium. This allows the speaker to be light and portable.

Behind the mesh cover is a brushed aluminium ring that holds everything together and also adds a nice finish against the wood. The speaker body is made from solid walnut adding a high class spec to its overall look.

This hole runs three quarters of the way through allowing maximum performance from the bass.

CoffeeLine Copper - Concrete

AIM: To think about what ritual I do everyday of my life. That being the consumption of coffee and creating a one off unique piece that clearly shows the process and also the thought behind using said product. FINAL OUTCOME: ‘CoffeeLine’. Which is a coffee production line, showing the process of how I personally make my coffee every morning.

This is where the coffee container is stored and has a unique fit.

Where the sugar container is stored and is the same as the coffee container.

Concrete tray with a rough dryer mix that has allowed it to have more impurities.

Again the three remaining sections are for a pint bottle of milk, a long latte spoon and finally the latte class/ mug. These are all tight fits so that the items won’t move around.

Again the material is still concrete but this has a wetter mix allowing to to come out smoother and more sharp.

CoffeeLine

CoffeeLine £105

This unique product is for people who drink coffee a lot and also have that certian ritual of making coffee in their own specific way. The concrete tray tells the story of how when you wake up you aren’t all there and by the time you’ve had your coffee you feel alive and ready to take on the day.

The three main materials used on the CoffeeLine include sand blasted oak containers for the coffee and sugar. Solid concrete with different types of aggrigate to give different finishes. Brushed steel container lids as it works well against the concrete and light wood.

The tray itself is 600mm x 150mm x 100mm. The containers are 140mm x 90mm.

BONBON - Fold away wardrobe & bed Copper - Concrete

AIM: To follow on from my Part A essay which was to research and create a piece of furniture that would allow the user to save space in a flat or room. FINAL OUTCOME: ‘Fold away wardrobe & bed’. A piece of furniture that is ideal for the small living spaces in cities.

Made from sheets of coated chipboard allowing it to be cheaply produced and making it rustic. The top section also has two spot lights.

These open spaces are for clothing storage with the top being for shirts/ jumper/ t-shirts and the bottm being for trousers/ jeans/ shorts.

Also in the side sections are cubby holes that are built in side tabled which boast lots of storage and a built in reading light.

The fold down bed is a memory foam mattress ontop of a divan styled base.

BonBon - Flip away wall bed & storage

These images are of original sketches showing the concept of the fold-awaybed and Solidwork renders which was able to show mutiple wood and fabric finishes.

This product offers a space saving bedroom solution by combining the two biggest space wasting things, that being the bed and the closet. It is specifically designed for the couple who live in a small city box flat.
