I think of myself as a minimalistic designer, strongly influenced by the Scandinavian aesthetic. Following the theory that ‘minimalism is about intentionality, not deprivation I explore the beauty of natural shapes and forms in my own designs, bringing an elegant simplicity to a product without sacrificing its ultimate function.

HEAL’S - ALFA lounge chair AIM:
The purpose of this brief was to design and create a semi-upholstered, wooden or metal framed lounge chair that has been heavily influenced by the Scandinavian style, whether that be the choices of colours, materials, or textures etc. There will be a strong focus of comfort over aesthetics and the option to use contrasting materials, an example of this would be a dark wood with a light material or vice versa. This specific piece will be aimed at being sold at HEALS so this does mean that the overall design needs to show a little sophistication and class.
FINAL OUTCOME:
Alfa is strongly influenced by Scandinavian design with its subtle aesthetic of softened angles and smooth curves, bringing out the beauty of the natural material. Following my ‘function over form’ ethos, I decided to gently angle both the seat and the back to gain the ultimate comfortable seating position. As this is the first product in this potential collection, it is quite appropriate that the side profile resembles the letter ‘A’, which led me to the Swedish word for the word Alpha – Alfa. This piece can be requested in a variety of different woods including Ash, Oak, and finally Teak. There is also a choice of cushion cover finishes if desired.
Made from 40mm Birch American Black Walnut with rounded edges to create a smooth finish.
Cotton/ Linen blend fabric called ‘Pollen from the retailer Sofa.com.
Halving joints with dominos have been used to hod the overall piece together making it a very sturdy robust frame.
The backrest sweeps around from the arm rests to create a smooth transition - gives additional support to the occupier.

QFC - Arton modular sofa AIM: For this project we worked on a live brief given to us by QFC. The brief stated that the design had to be for open planned living that would be sold at either John Lewis, Next or Ikea. FINAL OUTCOME: ‘Arton modular sofa’. This is the finished piece offering mutiple layout styles and lots of comfort.
The tray is made from solid wood but there is another model that allows the buyer to have it wrapped in fabric if they don’t like the natural finish.
Removable cushions. This allows the user to take them out the tray due to chair shortage or if there are a lot of guests. Also can be used as a footstool.
The sides of the tray are high enough to house the individual cushions but aren’t too high that it is uncomfortable to sit on. Also gives more support for when the backs/arms are on.
Short wooden legs which raises the tray off the ground allowing storage underneath and also creates a unique finish.
QFC - Arton modular sofa

This piece is ideal for open planned living as well as conventional box rooms and also offers the function of becoming a single bed with thr removal of certain components.

This is where the coffee container is stored and has a unique fit.
Where the sugar container is stored and is the same as the coffee container.
Concrete tray with a rough dryer mix that has allowed it to have more impurities.
Again the three remaining sections are for a pint bottle of milk, a long latte spoon and finally the latte class/ mug. These are all tight fits so that the items won’t move around.
