Arts Commission SP OTLIGHT
During this pandemic year the Arts Commission has been gratified to be able to pivot to a focus on visual arts. They sponsored the PaintBox Public Art project along with community donations, which included eleven local artists, two of them being high school students. The painted utility boxes in a fantastic variety of designs using back, white and one color. Their interest in enlivening the downtown business district inspired them to create Art on the Avenue, filling at least one vacant storefront with a monthly art exhibit of local artists. They are currently outlining a plan for mural projects in the future, and continuing research and discussions on possible crosswalk art projects. Scholarships have been awarded to our local high-school aspiring artists, as well continuing their support of the non-profit Youth in Arts. Later this year they plan to continue their partnership with Cedars by working with them on this summer's Harmony art exhibit.
