2025 Summer At The Academy Course Catalog

Page 1

Summer At The Academy was launched more than 30 years ago and has grown into one of the most successful summer programs in the area. Each year, more than 600 boys and girls from South Texas and beyond attend a diverse array of over 250 classes taught by the area’s top teachers, coaches, and artisans.

Summer At The Academy, an 8-week enrichment program for boys and girls ages four and older, provides excellent opportunities to create, learn, explore, and have fun. Located at 117 E. French Place in the Monte Vista Historic District, our tree-shaded, 7-acre campus provides an excellent environment for classroom study and outdoor sports and activities. There are outstanding facilities for sports, art, science, math, music, and performance classes.

We anticipate the return of our former students and look forward to welcoming newcomers to our campus. Please call us at (210) 736-5876 if you have any questions.

General Information

ENRICHMENT COURSES

Week-long enrichment courses are offered in the mornings from 9:00–11:30 AM and in the afternoons from 12:30–3:00 PM. Enrollment in each class is limited and will vary according to age group or topic. Enrichment course fees vary per class and are listed with the individual course descriptions. Classrooms will be open 15 minutes prior to and following classes. Students who arrive early or who are not picked up on time will be placed in our Wildcat Alley facility, and parents will be charged $15 for each quarter hour or part thereof.

HOT LUNCH/BROWN BAG

To participate in either lunch program, students must be enrolled in both AM and PM classes. Parents having lunch with their children must do so off-campus. Hot Lunch is a nutritious meal served in our dining hall, and includes food and drink provided by Summer At The Academy. The Hot Lunch menu will be posted on our website. Regrettably, we cannot accommodate special dietary requirements. Brown Bag participants bring their own lunch and drink. They eat in a separate air-conditioned area. Regrettably, we cannot guarantee an allergy-free environment. Our counselors escort students between classrooms and both lunch locations, and also supervise both lunch programs.

Hot Lunch Fee: $75 per 5-day week; $60 per 4-day week

Brown Bag Fee: $40 per 5-day week; $32 per 4-day week

Registrations may be canceled and the tuition refunded (minus the cancellation fees) four weeks prior to the beginning of the class. No refunds will be given with less than four weeks’ notice. Credit balances must be used before the end of the current summer program.

If a class is canceled by The Academy due to conditions beyond our control (e.g., weather, fire, health protocols, etc.), no refunds will be given, and the tuition is not transferable to another class. For information when such situations occur, please check our website (sa-academy.org) and/or our phone greeting/message (210-733-7331), as well as SAA’s social media.

If a class is canceled due to insufficient enrollment, the tuition may be applied toward another class or refunded in full. Parents will be notified of such cancellations the week prior to the class.

Each time a confirmed class is changed, a $15 fee will be charged. There are no refunds or rescheduling due to absences, illness, etc.

DROP-OFF/PICK-UP

Drop-off and pick-up will be through the driveway between the Stribling and Franklin Houses on French Place. Students will be escorted to and from their classes by summer staff. If picking up Kids Place students, please avoid pickup between 3:00–3:30 PM, as this is the time when parents are picking up students who have finished their afternoon classes, and the traffic is very heavy.

SUMMER ATTIRE

Please dress comfortably — t-shirts, shorts or jeans, and tennis shoes (no “wheelies”). Remember, “fun” can sometimes be messy, and our summers are warm!

SECURITY/SAFETY FIRST

Our campus is staffed with trained and certified personnel who monitor access to the campus. We have an RN/LVN (from 7:30 AM–6:00 PM), who administers prescribed medication and responds to medical emergencies. A physician is on call at all times for medical service and to advise our personnel on all first aid and nursing services provided by Summer At The Academy.

DISCIPLINE POLICY

Parents of students displaying unacceptable behavior will be notified immediately. This notification may be followed by removal from the program with no refund(s).

POLICY REGARDING ELECTRONIC DEVICES AND OTHER NON-ALLOWED ITEMS

Items such as cell phones, laptops, gaming units, DVD players, and “wheelie” tennis shoes are not allowed on campus during Summer At The Academy. Please label all personal items including lunch containers, water bottles, jackets, caps, etc., and do not bring any valuable/sentimental items to camp. SAA is not responsible for lost items.
