EMILIO SÁNCHEZ VICARIO FOUNDATION

The ESV Foundation is a private and non-profit institution which was founded in 2010 with the mission of promoting personal development and social integration through sports and education. Emilio Sánchez Vicario, aware of the positive values that sport in general and tennis in particular contributes to personal development, created this foundation to promote tennis among people with physical, intellectual or sensory disabilities, as well as people with limited economic resources. Always through sport, the Foundation also contributes to the professional training and job placement of these people, through actions such as the organization of sports activities and the promotion of training.

Intellectual Disability

Our mission is to develop projects that promote the personal development and social inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities through tennis. In operation since 2012, the FESV School in Barcelona offers classes to people with intellectual disabilities from Monday to Thursday and on Saturdays, grouping them mainly by age.

Since its inauguration, the individual needs of more than 100 athletes have been met.

The Emilio Sรกnchez Vicario Foundation started its project at the National Hospital of Paraplegics in January of 2012. The objective of the project is to promote sports by offering wheelchair tennis classes to inpatients and outpatients suffering spinal injuries.

The classes are taught two days a week (Monday and Wednesday) in groups of between 3 and 6 players, depending on the number of patients admitted to the hospital.

intellectual disability A sports and social project that was created in 2012 with the mission to give groups of people with special needs the opportunity to participate in tennis. The objective of the program is to help people with special needs to acquire healthy habits and to develop different physical, mental and social skills that facilitate their integration into society.

The program takes place in the facilities of the Club SantĂŠ through the entity Autismo Sevilla, in the Mu n i c i p a l Fa c i l i t i e s of B re n e s through the TAS Foundation and in the Santa Clara Club through the Psychopediatric Foundation.

On e hu n d re d a n d f i f t y p e o p l e between the ages of 4 and 65 directly benefit from the project.

The ESV Foundation also develops padel based projects which seek to offer benefits to people with intellectual disabilities. The Padel School of Madrid was created in 2011 in the Ciudad de la Raqueta. Padel lessons are organized by age group and are currently given to 4 groups of 4 or 5 people each, once a week on Saturdays. In total, there are approximately 20 people currently participating in this activity.

sensory disability Blind Tennis (tennis for the blind and people with reduced vision) arrived in Madrid in 2013, thanks to the Emilio SĂĄnchez Vicario foundation, Sound Tennis and to the contribution of courts by Ciudad de la Raqueta. The initial purpose of this program is to give people with visual disabilities the opportunity to play tennis and to provide them with a socializing tool that, in turn, will help them to develop their physical and psychological capacities.

As the project was developed, thanks to the commitment of players, volunteers and technicians, a new goal appeared: competitive tennis. At present we have more than 30 players registered in categories B1, B2 and B3. Our players have participated in two championships in Spain, 2 sub championships, and in an international championship.

The Emilio Sรกnchez Vicario Foundation annually gathers the best national and international wheelchair tennis players for the ITF Wheelchair Tournament.

The tournament, which first took place in 2012, is currently held in Ciudad de la Raqueta, alongside the celebration of the Ciudad de la Raqueta Music Festival, which allocates part of its proceeds to the financing of ESV Foundation projects.

The Tournament is part of the Wheelchair Tennis Tour of the International Tennis Federation, created in 1992, which currently organizes more than 150 annual tournaments in 40 different countries.

SPORTS GRANTS

The Emilio Sรกnchez Vicario Fundation, since 2012, has participated in the development of the best wheelchair tennis players, as in the case of Quico Tur, for example. More recently, the FESV has also contributed to make possible the participation of Daniel Caverzaschi in the Olympic Games of Rio 2016.

The ES Foundation Forums have been held every year since 2010, and are a center for debate on important current social issues. Personalities from the world of sports, culture and entertainment attend and share their experiences with the aim of raising awareness and improving society.

Among the most outstanding athletes who have participated in the forums are: Rafael Nadal, Feliciano Lopez, Carlos Moya, Sergio "Kun" AgĂźero, Vivi Ruano, Alberto Berasategui, and the Paralympics Quico Tur, Daniel Caverzaschi and Irene Villa.

Personalities from the world of sport management and political and social personalities have also participated. Among the most outstanding of these figures are: Juan Antonio Samaranch, Esperanza Aguirre, Alberto Ruiz-Gallardón, Pedro J. Ramirez, Jaime Mayor Oreja, Miguel Bosé, Alejandro Blanco, and others.

CASPER SCHOLARSHIPS

The Casper Project is the latest project to join the FESV. It was created in 2017 as a tribute to the young Spanish tennis player Casper Fernandez, a student of the Sรกnchez-Casal Academy, who died at the age of 16 in 2017, after a brave battle against cancer.

Casper asked his father to promise to help other kids to train, progress and be able to pursue a career in the world of tennis. The FESV joined this commitment and created a fund within the Foundation (#todossomoscasperfund) to collect funds with which to create and award scholarships to young tennis players with few resources. Therefore, up to four annual tournaments will be held in Barcelona, Madrid, Naples and China to raise funds for the Casper Fernรกndez scholarships. Work is also being carried out to organize and promote the direct collaboration of different companies to act as sponsors of the project.

The Emilio SĂĄnchez Vicario Foundation aims to raise awareness of the fact that it is possible to offer activities in which those with a disability, be it mental or physical, and those without, can play alongside one another. The Foundation also aims to organize tennis and/or inclusive paddel conferences for

companies, in the form of volunteering. The objective is to contribute to social awareness about disability and to promote awareness of the benefits of physical activities for people with disabilities, helping with their social and occupational integration.

The schedule will consist of an inclusive Padel and Tennis Tournament in which mixed teams formed by people with and without disabilities compete in an environment of coexistence and inclusion. In this way we support the fact that sport is an ideal method of social integration.
