Good afternoon everyone and welcome to all for this afternoon's very important game against Braintree Town. We are delighted to make special mention of our visitors today, in particular Chairman Lee Harding and his fellow directors and committee, Manager Danny Cowley and his staff and players and one or two fans making the trip up from Essex. As you will know by now, our brief flirtation with the FA cup is over for another season, after a disappointing defeat at home to Wycombe Wanderers last week. Congratulations to the home supporters who really got behind the team and the turnout for the game was better than expected and if not slightly disappointing from a Wycombe perspective as they suggested 400-500 supporters and ended up with 249 attending. It is a consistent theme that so many Club's overestimate the number of travelling fans, which makes planning very difficult and with very significant financial implications from a stewarding and location perspective. For example, we had at the outset decided to put the Wycombe fans in to the Skircoat Stand from a security perspective, which involves opening additional turnstiles and providing six extra stewards and two extra SIAs. An extra cost approaching ÂŁ400 which is significant in the whole scheme of things. Thankfully, after a health and safety meeting at the beginning of the week, the decision was rescinded and the fans were allocated to Block One in the East Stand. I don't think today is one of those such occasions as we should

be able to cope with the 30 or so travelling fans today! The atmosphere was good against Wycombe with a drum for each set of fans. To be sure it would have even been a whole lot better if we had managed to score or have a concerted period of pressure at some stage during the game. Whilst we had our fair share of possession, we were not able to turn it in to an incisive attacking threat nor were we able to keep a clean sheet and these are issues that the management are trying to address whilst we are in this transition period. Braintree are going to be challenging opponents today as they currently sit in 7th place on the same number of points as the 5th and 6th teams. A great performance so far and yet again we think they will be there or thereabouts in the play-off positions come the end of the season. As last week, it is busy on the Banqueting side as we welcome over 70 sponsors and visitors to dine with us and enjoy what we have to offer. Ben Bottomley is beginning to settle in to the role and genuinely needs the support of everyone to help make the generation of vital sponsorship income that little bit easier, in whatever form it takes. We do get so many words of congratulation and well done from people who have taken time out to come and dine, or be a sponsor and to be honest the biggest feedback is they are surprised by the quality of the day, particularly those who have been to bigger stadia or clubs higher up the league. Last week, we welcomed local comedian Lee

Roberts to do 15 minutes with us and he was very popular and instead of staying just for the 'gig', he was enjoying it so much he stayed for the whole afternoon. That could have been a ploy to avoid shopping and keeping his credit cards in his pocket! This week former Yorkshire and England cricketer Geoff Cope is going to reveal a few tales from his cricketing days, that probably won't appear in any autobiography?! Today is also a special day for a lifelong Town fan who has been diagnosed with cancer and is shortly due to go in to hospital to have a major operation. The Club is pleased to have played a small part in helping arrange a post-match party for Dennis Farrell for what is now known as 'Dennis Day' and we sincerely hope the 100 plus friends and family who come to enjoy this evening's event have a really good time in the company of their relation and friend. From everyone at FC Halifax Town, we wish

you all the luck and the very best for your forthcoming treatment. We hope you all enjoy today's game, we know we need a win and to start picking up some vital points, to ensure we don't get cut adrift at the bottom of the table. We know we are not right yet, it is work in progress but we are improving, all we can do is as the saying goes 'when the going gets tough, the tough get going' and we will have a fight to the very end of the season to retain our position in the National League. You the fans, the crowd etc. have a very important role to play, as we strive to turn our fortunes around. The more noise, support and encouragement for the lads you can give will be appreciated by all. As always, we hope we can provide a good display and that your support for the team is enthusiastic and yet respectful to our visitors and of course the match officials. COME ON THE SHAYMEN!

Manager's Notes Sponsored by Dickies Tiles

Good afternoon and welcome back to The MBi Shay for today's match with Braintree Town as we return to Vanarama National League action. I was disappointed to go out of the FA Cup at the First Round stage last Sunday as I was hoping for a good cup run and I was very hopeful ahead of the game with Wycombe Wanderers. We had done some work on them but it just wasn't to be and it was the end of the fairytale. But I was proud of the boys because they still put in a shift and they still worked hard – for each other and for the team. However, we conceded poor goals and that is the main thing I was disappointed about. I thought that the 4-0 scoreline was very flattering for Wycombe. We made a couple of good chances but the goals we conceded were very soft to say the least. I was encouraged by a lot of the play in the game and we dominated a lot of the possession for large spells in the game, so to lose 4-0 was hard to take. We were good in the final third, we just lacked that end product. When you are a full-time outfit – like Wycombe - you can work on all aspects of your play but I cannot fault my players' efforts. We were still very much in the tie at halftime and we wanted to take the game to them at the start of the second half and if we'd have scored early then we believed that we would have had a good chance. But they went up to the other end to make it 2-0. The players still dug deep to try and take the game to them and if we'd have scored even at that stage then maybe Wycombe heads would have gone

down. It just wasn't to be. Shaun Tuton was denied by their goalkeeper at 2-0 but we will never know the answer now. I made a change in the goalkeeping position which saw on loan Everton youngster Russell Griffiths make his debut and I was happy with him. He made a couple of good saves and he seemed in control. He came in just before that game so he hadn't really trained with the group a lot. It was difficult for him to come into the game when he didn't really know everyone. After the game he was straight on international duty with England and that was great for him. Matty Glennon has been great for me since I have been here but you have got to look at all the aspects. We are going through a transitional period and we have also conceded quite a few goals. We need to start keeping clean sheets. Overall there were plenty of positives to take out of the game in the build-up to today's encounter with Braintree. We just had to take the result on the chin but we're all now looking forward to this afternoon's game. If we can start to turn these recent performances into end products then we will absolutely be fine. Braintree will be no easy game but we are getting more confidence instilled within the group, the players are buying into what we are trying to do and what we want to create, and it is only a matter of time before the results will come. Enjoy the game, Darren

Opposition Profile The Manager:

The Manager – Chris Kinnear The Shaymen Shout takes a look at who is in charge of the opposition dugout this afternoon as Town entertain high-flying Dover… Dover come into this afternoon's tie flying high in the Vanarama National League, situated in third place after their 1-1 draw at Chester in midweek. And they are managed by a man rightly regarded as a club legend. Chris Kinnear has starred as both a player and manager at the Crabble Athletic Ground, and returned to Dover in 2013 before leading the side into the highest tier of non-league football. After joining as a player back in 1985, injury meant he made the switch into the dug-out just a few months after first making the switch. And an inspired move it was, as he took Dover to places they had never been before. Taking over with the club stuck at the bottom end of the Southern League, leading them right into the Conference. Along the way, he increased his own value, as the club notched league championship after league championship. They had two goes at the Southern Premier Division after they were initially banned from entering, making it in for good back in 1993. And in the process, they added further trophies to an ever growing cabinet. The Kent Senior Cup, Premier Inter League Cup and Southern League Cup all became theirs in the space of just a few months. But all good things have to come to an end, and Kinnear departed soon after, following the greatest spell in the club's history. And he made sure his own reputation only continued to soar after moving to Margate. There, he won a further two local cups for the side as well as guiding them into the FA Cup First Round for a lucrative tie with Fulham. And much like he did with Dover, he took his new club back into the Conference after a long stint out. They pipped Burton Albion to promotion at the turn of the millennium, consolidating the club as a steady outfit much like he had with today's visitors. After the club failed to improve the ground and found themselves demoted, Kinnear moved on again. This time, he took up a new role with Wolverhampton Wanderers, before surprisingly making his first return. Margate came calling again with the chance to take the side back up the leagues, too good an

offer for Kinnear to turn down. But after just a couple of years, he returned to the home of his finest achievements. Since his move back to Dover, Kinnear has guided the side back into the National League, this time assisted by his son. Namesake Chris Jr. is a part of this season's squad, as the duo look to take Dover to places they haven't been before. Prior to facing Chester in midweek, Kinnear was full of praise for his players following last Saturday's 3-1 victory over Barrow. Speaking to the official Dover club website, he said: “First half I thought we were quite outstanding. We may have lost to Eastleigh and Forest Green, but they are massive clubs with massive budgets. All I ask is they go out and play in the way they have been playing this and last season.” “You don't win anything or get promoted at this time of the year as there are four and half months left to go and all we can do is try and win as many games as we can." Opposition Profile The Key Men:

The Shaymen Shout's Lewis Larkam delves within Dover's squad to highlight three key men who Town will need to keep quiet this afternoon at The MBi Shay… Stefan Payne – Striker Dover's top scorer so far this season with nine goals in 22 appearances. Payne has proved to be The Whites main attacking threat this term, following on from his successful first year at the club during 2014-15 campaign. Having signed for the Kent side in the summer of 2014 on a free transfer, the frontman went on to score 16 goals, and he is well on his way to matching and beating that tally this campaign. After coming through the youth ranks at Croydon, and following an impressive spell at Sutton United, the 24-year-old attracted attention throughout the Football League and was eventually signed by Fulham for what was believed to be a six figure sum. Payne played multiple games for the reserves but never broke into the first time, prompting a move to Gillingham in 2010. Spells at Braintree Town and Aldershot failed to work out for the striker, who ended up being sent out on loan for a return to Sutton. Macclesfield Town were the next Football League club to sign him in 2012 but opportunities were again limited leaving Payne to join Ebbsfleet United in 2013. During the 2013-14 season, Payne returned to goal scoring form, finding the net a remarkable 35 times in 46 matches for Isthmian League side AFC Hornchurch. Payne's superb form proved to be the catalyst in Chris Kinnear's decision to bring the forward to the Crabble Athletic Ground, ahead of Dover's return to the Conference Premier in 201415. Nicky Deverdics – Midfielder A skillful midfielder with an appetite for goals. Nicky Deverdics has integrated himself into the heart of the Dover team, rising into a prominent figure so far this campaign. A creative asset with plenty of assists to his name, now Deverdics has added goal scoring to his repertoire during 201516, having notched up a total of seven in 23 appearances for The Whites. The 27-year-old began his career as a trainee at Newcastle United, but was released at the end of the 2005-2006 season. After a year-long spell

spent at both Gateshead and Bedlington Terriers, the Geordie got his break at Scottish side Gretna, enjoying success as he played a key role in The Black and Whites promotion to the Scottish Premier League. Deverdics went on to make 26 appearances for Gretna in the SPL, but as a result of the financial problems which ultimately forced the club to disband, he was released in 2008. Deverdics joined Barnet for two seasons where he played in a midfield that included the likes of Yannick Bolasie, Albert Adomah and Micah Hyde. During his time at the Football League side, Deverdics won 'Most Improved Player'. Either side of periods at non-league sides Blyth Spartans and Alfreton Town, the midfielder enjoyed two spells in Europe. First, in 2011, with Icelandic club BÍ/Bolungarvík and again in 2013, this time with TB Tvøroyri of the Faroe Islands. He scored eight goals in 50 matches for the two clubs, before returning to England with Tadcaster Albion and eventually signing for Dover in the summer of 2014. Sean Raggett - Defender A product of The Whites youth academy, Sean Raggett has fast become a key defender in Chris Kinnear's side. At just 22 years of age, the centrehalf has already made 47 appearances for the club after signing a two-year contract in the summer of 2013. In just over two full seasons, Raggett has been watched by Premier League clubs Liverpool and Everton. A host of clubs across the Premiership and Football League are said to be monitoring the youngster, who has been likened to Manchester United's Chris Smalling. It is no surprise either, the towering defender, standing at 6ft 5, is comfortable on the ball as well as being a dominant presence in the air. He is also a goal threat at set-pieces, having scored five times for Dover, including a late winner this term against Altrincham. As a leader at the back, big things are expected of Raggett, who has captained The Whites at youth level and proved a key factor in the club's promotion to the Conference Premier. Raggett has continued his impressive form into the current campaign, where Dover have become one of the stand-out performers of the 2015-16 National League season, sitting third in the table and just five points off the top after an impressive run of seven wins in 10 matches.

Opposition Profile The Form Guide:

Every season, you always get a surprise package that shocks the league and takes major scalps along the way. We're seeing that this season with Leicester City in the Premier League, Burton Albion in League One, and now Dover Athletic in the Vanarama National League. Our South Coast visitors currently reside in fourth place in the league, sitting on 40 points and only four points behind league leaders Cheltenham, meaning that the 'White Cliff' men are this years surprise package, but what results have got them to the position they sit in at the minute. In their last 11 matches in the National League, Dover have notched up seven wins, stealing the spoils from high flying Tranmere, mid table Wrexham at the Racecourse, and they started the poor form that has seen Gateshead FC this week sack their former manager, Malcolm Crosby. When they travelled up to the Gateshead International Stadium, the longest trip of their season, a 692 mile round trip they put in a performance worthy of any Premier League side. A stunning second half performance saw them come from a goal down, thanks to strikes from Aswhad Thomas and Jack Parkinson. Star man Stefan Payne then rescued his side in another difficult long trip for Dover, as they hit struggling Torquay with a sucker punch with only seconds remaining, which meant they kept up with the promotion hopefuls. They then won their third league match in a row with a comfortable home victory against Welsh side Wrexham thanks to Toby Ajala's first goal for the club, with Ricky Miller adding a second the other side of half time, thus starting a run of form that would turn many heads in the National League. Then the week after, their first blip came at rivals Braintree Town, after Michael Cheek's strike right on the half time whistle sent the travelling 'White Cliff' men home pointless. But they were back to winning ways in their next outing, showing great character to come back from one goal down inside five minutes to end Macclesfield's solid run of form at that time thanks to a classy finish through the keeper's legs from Payne, and a Nicky Deverdics penalty.

Then came the moment that everybody took notice of the Kent men, when they travelled to the Wirral, and stunned the National League with a fantastic counter attacking victory, taking the spoils at Prenton Park with a solitary strike from Miller which hit the top left hand corner, from the right edge of the 18 yard area. Promotion-ambition-statement well and truly issued by 'The Whites.' They then slipped up thrice following the great victory at Prenton Park, with a 2-1 defeat at home to non-league Stourbridge in the FA Cup, then a James Constable inspired performance for Eastleigh stole a point from Dover after levelling the game after Constable's first goal of the game. They then travelled to high flying Forest Green Rovers, which in fact was always a tough task, but like the last seven games of the season, 'The Whites' went out with no fear. They took the lead through Deverdics' wonderful strike, but then a stunning second half performance from the Gloucestershire based outfit blew away the South Coasters, on a blustery day at The New Lawn. But then last Saturday saw normality resumed with Alethic taking all three points in their home tie with newly promoted Barrow in a blistering first half performance which saw three goals from Ricky Modeste, Richard Orlu and Miller dump Barrow in the Garden Of England. Tuesday night saw Dover travel to Chester FC, a difficult trip on a cold Tuesday night under the lights in November, but they ground out a point to leapfrog them into third place into the division thanks to a goal of the season contender from joint second top goal scorer Miller. Chris Kinnear has worked wonders on the South Coast, and Dover have become the team to beat alongside Cheltenham and Forest Green this season, so after the Shaymen's wonderful victory on Saturday at Gateshead, today's matchup is set to be cracker, and one where goals are a given. Dover have 20 goals in their last 13 matches, and boast one of the league hot properties in Stefan Payne, who will certainly be the man to watch. It remains to be seen whether or not Dover have what it takes to keep up the pace with the front runners. Michael Burton

Opposition Profile We've Met Before:

Today sees the Shaymen welcome Dover Athletic to the MBI Shay stadium following an emphatic 4-1 victory over Gateshead last weekend. An impressive performance from the team, down to 10 men, saw Town claim their third league win of the season to end their run of five consecutive losses. Dover currently sit 3rd in the league following a good start to the season, claiming a point in their last game against Chester on Tuesday night. The two teams have met twice since FC Halifax Town reformed in 2008, with the Shaymen taking three points from each fixture. The curtain-raiser to the 2014-15 season saw Town make the long journey south to face Dover for the first time following the hosts' promotion from the Conference South. In a nervy opening day spectacle both sides created minimal chances in the first 45 minutes. However, Scott McManus gave the Shaymen the goal they had been craving minutes after the two sides restarted the second half, with a wellstruck drive into the far bottom corner from 20 yards. As Town pushed for a second goal, things started to heat up with four yellow cards being shown. As the game progressed

into injury time, Simon Ainge was pulled up once more after already having been shown a yellow card and was sent for an early bath. Despite going down to 10 men, Town were able to hold onto their lead and claim all three points on their travels at the first time of asking in the 2014-15 season – after waiting 990 minutes for their first away league win at the start of the the 2013-14 campaign. The Shaymen came up against Dover again in the new year, as Dover made their long trek north to the Shay. Town took the lead with just five minutes on the clock with Lois Maynard finding the back of the net for the ninth time of the season. Minutes later Richard Peniket increased the Shaymen's lead to 2-0. Dover hit back just before the half time break as Tom Murphy fired home into the bottom corner to gain his name on the score sheet. The visitors desperately tried to get the equaliser, but Jamie Jackson ensured a comfortable 3-1 lead for the Shaymen from 20 yards out. And although Dan Holman's strike set up a tense finish, Town held on for a thrilling 3-2 triumph. With Halifax claiming a win in both games, Dover will certainly be looking to gain their first victory over the Shaymen this afternoon. Jess Softley

On This Day In Shaymen History

28TH NOVEMBER

Northern League Division One.

Today, FC Halifax Town will host Dover Athletic on this, Saturday 28 November 2015. How have Town performed on this date in years gone by? The Shaymen Shout's Sam Berrett finds out…

It proved to be a productive afternoon for Town as they ran out 2-1 winners, courtesy of goals from James Dean and Richard Marshall.

Halifax have played on the 28th November on 13 different occasions and, overall, it hasn't been kind to them. Having lost eight of those 13 encounters, winning only three and drawing the other two, Town will be hoping history doesn't repeat itself today. The first time Town played on this date was 90 years ago today, back in 1925 when they hosted Rotherham United in the FA Cup first round proper. It proved to be a bad day for The Shaymen as they were eliminated from the competition, courtesy of a 3-0 defeat to The Millers. The next three games to be played on the 28th all came in the FA Cup as well but Town failed to win any of them. In 1931 they travelled to Newark Town where they played out a 1-1 draw, Albert Mays getting on the score-sheet for Town. The replay, on the other hand, was a success story, with Halifax winning 2-1. That year, Town reached the third round where they were eventually beaten 3-1 by Bournemouth. Then, FA Cup exits on this date in 1934 and 1936, to Hartlepool United and Darlington respectively, have ensured that Town have never won an FA Cup fixture on the 28th of November. Recent history has proven much kinder with Halifax winning both of their last two encounters on the 28th of November. The most recent fixture on this date was just three years ago, with Town facing Albion Sports away in the West Riding County Cup. The Shaymen won 2-0 with Dan Gardner converting from the spot in the first half before they were awarded another penalty in the second that was tucked away by Alex Johnson. Town's last league game on this day came back in 2009, where they hosted Woodley Sports in

Town's only other win came all the way back in 1970 when they faced Port Vale at home. Andy Burgin only scored nine goals in 243 league appearances for Town but two of them came in that game, ensuring he led them to a 2-0 win. However, it has been far from plain sailing in other league fixtures on this date. Back in 1953, goals from Derek Priestley and Jimmy Moncrieff proved to not be enough as Town fell to a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Scunthorpe United. However, Town's biggest November 28th disaster certainly came against Newport County in 1959. Having never won on the date at the time, they travelled to Newport where they were completely dismantled, losing 5-1. Tom Holmes was able to score a penalty for Town but it was nowhere near enough as John McSeveney scored four and Barrie Meyer got the other goal. So, overall, the 28th of November hasn't proved to be the best day for Town. It took them eight attempts to finally get a win on the date but they seem to have got the hang of it recently. The Shaymen will be hoping that they can continue their current two game winning streak on this date when they welcome Dover Athletic to The Shay today. League News:

Managerial Merry-Go-Round The last week and a half has seen no fewer than three managerial sackings in the National League. As well as Darren Kelly leaving The Shaymen last week, Malcolm Crosby was sacked by Gateshead after their 4-1 loss to us on Saturday, and Darren Edmundson was sacked by Barrow after their 3-1 defeat to Dover. Barrow have already moved to replace Edmundson though, hiring former Halifax defender Paul Cox on a three and a half year deal. Cox left former club Torquay United in September after just three months in charge and takes over a Bluebirds side sitting in 16th place in the table. Cox also led Mansfield Town to the Conference title in the 2012-13 season. Meanwhile at Gateshead, captain Ben Clark and reserve team manager Micky Cummins have been installed as caretaker managers, with former Shay Chief Neil Aspin one of the favourites to take over in the Heed hot-seat. Rovers Sign Williams Second placed Forest Green Rovers have signed striker Brett Williams on loan from League Two side Stevenage Borough. The deal runs until the end of January, with Williams joining a side that are unbeaten in their last six games and sit just a point behind leaders and rivals Cheltenham Town. The 27 year old has also had spells at Eastleigh, Rotherham United, Northampton Town and Aldershot Town. He has so far made 17 appearances for Stevenage, scoring twice, and is set to make his debut for Forest Green at home to Altrincham today. Chester Sign Whitmore Chester have signed defender Alex Whitmore on loan from Burnley on a month's long deal. The 20 year old centre back is a graduate from the Championship club's academy but has yet

to make a first team appearance for The Clarets. He made his debut in Chester's 1-1 draw with Dover Athletic on Tuesday night. Ricky Miller gave Dover the lead in the 37th minute before Ross Hannah equalised for the home side on the stroke of half time. Green Leaves Harriers Kidderminster Harriers have cancelled the contract of defender Jake Green by mutual consent. The 21 year joined the Harriers in July 2014 on a one year deal from Bristol Rovers and made 35 appearances. He featured in Kidderminster's first win of the season against Woking last month, and in the 1-1 draw against us at The Shay in September. Unlucky Campion Achille Campion is currently on loan at Torquay United from Port Vale, but the Frenchman' spell has been hindered by somewhat bad luck. His first game for the club was called off, in his second game one of his team mates was sent off so Campion was substituted for tactical reasons and now the striker faces two weeks out of action with a broken nose. He suffered the injury in last weekend's 3-1 loss at home to Lincoln City and with his loan spell running out at the end of this month, the club are unsure whether they will extend the loan or not. Gallagher Handed Suspension Following his red card against Wrexham in Aldershot's 1-0 loss last Saturday, Jake Gallagher has been handed a three match ban from the FA. Gallagher picked up his second yellow card in the game in 72nd minute for a late foul on defender Jamal Fyfield and is set to the miss the matches against Cheltenham Town, Dover Athletic and the FATrophy First Round tie. CLUB HISTORY

Dover Athletic

Dover Athletic F.C. was formed in 1983 after the town's previous club, Dover FC, folded due to its debts. The new club took Dover's place in the Southern League Southern Division, with former Dover player Alan Jones as manager and a team consisting mainly of reserve players from the old club. Initially Athletic struggled, finishing second from bottom of the table in the 1984–85 season. In November 1985 Steve McRae, who had succeeded Jones a year earlier, was sacked and replaced by Chris Kinnear. Under Kinnear the club's fortunes turned round, with two top-five finishes followed by the Southern Division championship, and with it promotion, in the 1987–88 season. The team started strongly in the Premier Division, finishing in sixth place at the first attempt, and then winning the championship in the 1989–90 season. The club was denied promotion to the Football Conference, however, as the Crabble Athletic Ground did not meet the standard required for that league. After finishing fourth and second in the subsequent two seasons, Dover won the title again in the 1992–93 season and this time were admitted to the Conference. Although Dover finished in eighth place in their first season in the Conference, the following season saw the club struggling against relegation, and Kinnear was replaced at the helm by John Ryan – but his reign was a short one and he was dismissed when the club lost seven of its first eight matches in the 1995–96 season. The club then appointed former England international Peter Taylor as manager, but he was unable to steer the team away from the foot of the table, and Dover held onto their place in the Conference only because Northern Premier League runners-up Boston United failed to submit their application for promotion before the required deadline. Bill Williams took over as manager in 1997

and proved to be Dover's most successful Conference manager, leading the club to the FA Trophy semi-finals in the 1997–98 season and a best ever league finish of sixth place in the 1999–2000 season. Williams left the club to take a senior position with Conference rivals Kingstonian in May 2001. By now the club was in severe financial difficulties, with a number of directors resigning and debts exceeding £100,000. Amid the crisis the entire board of directors resigned, forcing the club's Supporters' Trust to take over the running of the club, and manager Gary Bellamy was sacked after just six months in the job. Former Everton goalkeeper Neville Southall took over but was dismissed just three months later, with Clive Walker taking over in March 2002 with the club rooted to the foot of the table. The club finished the season bottom of the Conference and was relegated back to the Southern League Premier Division. The club's ongoing financial problems led to it entering a Company Voluntary Arrangement (CVA), a process by which insolvent companies offset their debts against future profits, due to debts that were now estimated at £400,000. In Dover's first season back in the Southern League Premier Division the Whites finished in third place, albeit 17 points adrift of Tamworth, who claimed the one promotion place available that season. A poor start to the following season saw Walker replaced by Richard Langley. Dover finished the season in 19th place, before being switched to the Isthmian League Premier Division in the summer of 2004 following a re-organisation of the English football league system. The new season started with six successive defeats, which saw Langley sacked, and the financial problems continued, with the club coming within two months of being closed down. Dover were relegated to the Isthmian League Division One at the end of the

season, but were saved from possible extinction in January 2005 when former director Jim Parmenter returned to head up a consortium that took over the club. Parmenter quickly sacked manager Steve Browne and convinced Clive Walker to return to the club to replace him, and also arranged for the club's outstanding CVA debts to be cleared, putting the club on a firm financial footing for the first time in many years. Dover Athletic narrowly missed out on an immediate return to the Premier Division in the 2005–06 season, reaching the play-offs for promotion but losing out to Tonbridge Angels. The following season Dover again reached the play-offs but lost in the semi-final to Hastings United, after which Walker did not have his contract renewed and was replaced by former Gillingham manager Andy Hessenthaler. In his first season in charge he led the club to the Division One South championship and promotion to the Isthmian League Premier Division. The following season Dover won a second consecutive championship and thus gained promotion to Conference South. In the 2009–10 season, Dover reached the play-offs for promotion to the Conference National, but lost at the semi-final stage to Woking. The following season the club reached the third round of the FA Cup for the first time after wins over Kent rivals Gillingham in the first round and another League Two club, Aldershot Town, in the second round. In the 2012–13 season the club again reached the play-offs, but this time lost in the final to Salisbury City. The following season the team reached the second round of the FA Cup, losing 1–0 to Milton Keynes Dons, The last 16 of the FA Trophy, narrowly losing 3–2 to Eastleigh and made the play-offs once more. A 4–1 aggregate victory over Sutton United in the semi-final set up a match with fellow Kent team Ebbsfleet United in the final.

...Continued

On 10 May 2014, Dover beat Ebbsfleet 1–0 at Stonebridge Road with a goal from Nathan Elder enough to seal the club's return to the top flight of non-league football for the first time since 2002. In the 2014–15 season Dover went on another FA Cup run, beating Morecambe 1–0 in the first round, then Cheltenham Town 1–0 in the second round to reach the third round proper for only the second time ever, but lost 4–0 at home to Premier League side Crystal Palace. The side went on to finish in 8th place in their first season back in the top flight of non-league football. SUMMARY OF RECENT HISTORY 2014/15: Finished 8th in Vanarama Conference Premier, 3rd round of FA Cup, quarter-finals of FA Trophy 2013/14: Finished 5th in Skrill South, beating Sutton and Ebbsfleet in the play-offs to gain promotion to the Conference Premier. 2012/13: Finished 3rd in Blue Square Bet South, beaten 3-2 by Salisbury City in the play-off final. 2011/12: Finished 7th in Blue Square Bet South. 2010/11: Beat Gillingham and Aldershot to reach the FA Cup 3rd round proper. The View From The Hills

HARVEY'S PERFECT AUDITION It's been a turbulent season at The Shay, and that's putting it nicely. Two managers gone already and currently sitting at the foot of the table isn't what anyone wanted or expected. But last Saturday's victory at Gateshead was probably the strangest afternoon of the season. A freezing cold afternoon in an empty stadium, a man sent off after half an hour and only days after Darren Kelly left his position as manager. Town fans could have been excused for thinking another heavy beating was on the way, and even Matty Brown spoke afterwards that he could possibly have seen that coming. But instead what occurred was far and away the performance of the season, considering the circumstances. Jim Harvey, who himself applied for the manager's role the first time around, was assisted by Tommy Miller in a makeshift Town bench. But somehow, both managed to do something neither previous boss had done all season: make the side play well for 90 minutes. The decision to bring both Brown and Hamza Bencherif out of the wilderness and into the first eleven was a brave move, considering both had barely appeared since the first two months of the season. But Brown especially put in one of the best individual performances of the season alongside Kiel O'Brien. Kingsley James and Nicky Wroe also played surely their best games since switching to The Shay. And all this without even mentioning Shaun Tuton. Tuton showed what he can do in front of goal in the 6-3 defeat against Braintree, scoring twice, although he can feel mighty

unlucky not to have been credited with the first too. And he followed that up this week with a hat-trick, no matter what various websites say. Tuton's hattrick showed poachers instinct, all three combining to about 15 yards. But the third, where he side-stepped the goalkeeper, showed a man full of confidence despite the results since August. It feels unfair to only pick a few players out from the 4-1 victory, with the entire side performing admirably to record the most unlikely of victories. But last Saturday again showed a side who are more than capable of winning games in this league, and escaping the drop zone. Time will tell if Harvey gets the job on a permanent basis, but he certainly couldn't have done a better audition than the one he gave last Saturday. One noticeable thing from last Saturday was the influence of Miller in the dug-out. Signed and initially installed as captain, the departure could see Miller thrive in a player coach role. An experienced man who has played far and above the National League, the former Sunderland man was extremely vocal during the game and looked like a manager in the making. The FCHT board will no doubt take time before installing a permanent manager, but a 4-1 victory away from home will give the decision makers a lot to think about. Also, a big shout out to the 100 or so Shaymen who made the journey up to Gateshead last Saturday. It was very cold. Ryan Hills

The Centre Piece Interview:

After four months serving a tactful media-ban whilst waiting for an FA ruling to decide how much compensation his new club would have to pay his old employers, FC Halifax Town's marquee summer signing, Kingsley James, has finally had his gag removed. And although the former Chester star was very forthcoming in his first authorised interview with the Shaymen Shout, James is currently letting his feet do the talking on the pitch after a string of impressive performances in recent weeks. In an official hearing at Wembley - after a longrunning saga - Town were eventually ordered to pay Chester £8000. James – the unfortunate man-in-the-middle - however, is just relieved the situation has been finally resolved. He exclusively revealed: “It's all done and dusted and I can forget about it now. It got dragged out a little bit so I am pleased it is all done. “I didn't really get involved in it all as it wasn't anything to do with me. It was about the two clubs coming to an agreement. It didn't affect me too much but it was just a long drawn out process. “We had to travel down to Wembley on the Friday, then across to Eastleigh to play that game, so it wasn't really ideal. It was a long process so I am just glad it is all done. “Perhaps Chester could have probably done things differently to stop it dragging out but they were probably doing what they thought was best for them as a club and you cannot blame them for that. “I am sure a lot of other clubs would have done the same thing but I just wish it had been resolved differently and quicker. But that is how it went and we have got to move on from that now.” Having had a successful season with Chester, James moved closer to his Yorkshire roots to care for his poorly mother. A move to The Shay, therefore, was “ideal.” However, the Shaymen's start to the 2015-16 campaign has been far from ideal, as James explains:

Kingsley James

“I bought a property in December in Barnsley and I barely stayed there. It was important for me to be close to my family. My mum has had some serious operations and she is undergoing another operation next year so it was important for me to be at home and spend a lot of time with my family and with my mum especially. It was ideal for me to come to Halifax. “But the start is not what I expected at all. I came here with the ambition of getting promotion. The Club has been on the verge of that over the past couple of years and I wanted to come here to carry on going in that direction. “For one reason or another it has not worked out that way and we are nowhere near where, personally, I want to be and as a team where we want to be. It has been disappointing but there is nothing I can do about that other than go out and play and put in some good performances. “I can't put a finger on what actually has gone wrong. No matter what formation we tried in the early parts or who we played it just wasn't working. “We have brought in a few experienced players recently which has taken a lot of pressure off the younger players and we have looked better. But results haven't reflected some of the performances. We need to start picking up results now.” Poor results has seen two managers relieved of their duties already this season – one after 6 years and the other after only 47 days after Town plummeted to the bottom of the table. And whilst James was very saddened to hear of Neil Aspin's dismissal – the man who brought James to the Club - the midfielder, amidst the current upheaval, has begun to hit a hot streak of form, which has seen the relative youngster score five goals in his past 11 appearances. He said: “Of course I felt for Neil. I respected him as a man and as a manager. He brought me in and I built up a relationship with him. “I felt really bad for him. I feel really bad when

anyone loses their job and I still feel for him now. “As for me, I do see myself as one of the experienced players but, in truth, I am still only 23 so I am still quite young in terms of football. Having experienced players around like Nicky Wroe and Tommy Miller has taken a lot of pressure off the younger players. They are now the senior pros and they are leading the team forward; it has taken a bit of onus off the younger players and we have looked a lot better really. “And I think I have looked a lot better further forward up the pitch. We are playing football out from the back a little bit more and that suits me a lot more; that is what I am used to. “I didn't start as well as I would have liked to but I have picked up a lot recently. It is about hitting form. It is what happens throughout a season – you will have patches when you are not so good

and some patches when you are at your best. I think I am at my best at the minute so hopefully I can keep this run going.” Caretaker manager Jim Harvey inspired James and his fellow Shaymen to a stunning 4-1 triumph at Gateshead last Saturday. And the message is clear from the man who scored the crucial goal to put Town back in front in the northeast: let's build on that win! He roared: “We just want to get out of there as quickly as we can. We need to start grinding out results on a consistent basis.” One swallow doesn't make a summer, but if the ever-present James can carry on his recent King-like performances and good form, then maybe the Shaymen's winter will not be so bleak after all. Media Team Snippet

Welcome to this afternoon's home game with Braintree Town in the Vanarama National League as we return to league action. Last week's FA Cup tie was a busy day but a very exciting time for all the media team as we prepared for the game with League Two side Wycombe Wanderers. We had over 40 press here to cover the game both local and national press including TV, radio, newspapers, photographers etc. We utilised four areas of the ground to look after all the press with the East Stand press bench, Skircoat press bench, hospitality box and the gantry which needed to be managed well to ensure that everyone was looked after on the day. One of the first jobs prior to the game, I came down to the Skircoat press bench a couple of days beforehand and spent half an hour cleaning the press box on the far side of the ground. That press box doesn't get used very often and needed a good clean. What you do for this Football Club!!! I had also been down to meet with the BT engineer in relation to the 5 live ISDN line and ensured that was working for the game. We had the BBC's Derm Tanner and Alastair Yeomans needing to use the line on the far side to produce the work they needed to on the day. However despite the line working on the day, it was intermittent and it became apparent that Plan B was needed. Alastair had come prepared and had a back up system in place should it become needed which it did but Derm would have been unable to work. However BBC radio Leeds weren't covering the game, so we did a quick rejig of seats and Derm was able to use the second port of the BBC Local radio ISDN and we were okay again. We personally welcomed every member of the press to the game and escorted them to the press room and showed them where their facilities would be for the day. We ensured everyone had exactly what they needed After the game we held a post match press conference on the 1st floor which saw both Darren Kelly and Gareth Ainsworth both attend for the

With Kelly Gilchrist

waiting press. The feedback after the game was amazing and everyone had a really good day. BBC's Bill Turnbull who was commentating for Wycombe on the day mentioned in his Monday morning breakfast show how good his time was at the MBi Shay Stadium and how much he valued the very warm welcome he had received on the day. A 4-0 win always helps with that as well, wonder if he would have been as complimentary if we had got the win on the day. A big thank you from me to all the media team for their hard work last weekend to make it a success for us, it is very much appreciated. Today, we welcome a number of 1st year students from the University of Huddersfield who are here to do a match report as part of their course. We hope you enjoy your time with us today. We got notice this week that from the summer of 2017 should we still be a Non-League Club, that our contract with FLI will not be renewed and that our website will be part of a new deal through the Vanarama National league. How this will work and what it will mean is all to be seen but we will keep you informed as and when we have more information on this. Between the Conference and the Football League, they are working on a plan to deal with Club websites in relation to promotion and relegation as at the moment there are about 12 Clubs in the Conference that are part of the FLi deal and each one of us will be affected by the news. Next week, we are away at Gateshead in the league, if you can't make the game stay with the official website for all the latest news from the International Stadium. As always if you have any comments regarding the official website, Shaymen Player, Shaymen Wall, Matchday programme, please feel to email kellygilchrist@fchalifaxtown.com

SHOUT

Good afternoon, and welcome to you all. Today it is back to “business as usual” following last week's FA Cup game. Our buckets will of course be back in situ, and many thanks to those of you who have taken the trouble to check that I wasn't suffering from some sort of illness last Sunday. I must admit it is rather unusual for us to be missing, but it was all in a good cause. You should also have the opportunity today to donate to the “Play the Squares” sheet, have a go on the Domino Card, and to commit yourself to a future donation by sponsoring the “Goal o meter”. At this point, I must thank Mr Michael Mosselmans from East Horsley, who is a new Goal o meter sponsor at £3.50 per goal! The memorabilia stall under the East Stand has recently benefitted from a programme donation, courtesy of Town fan Chris Allen. Actions of this type are always welcome, as are cash donations - the most recent of these were received from Chris Whitehead and the Brothers Knowles. Incidentally, commiserations to the brothers for their flight back from Eastleigh

being “fogged off” on the Sunday morning. I'm sure you enjoyed your train trip instead! As promised, I can today inform you of the date for our AGM. It is this Wednesday, November 18th at 8pm in the Shay Supporters Bar. I have already explained the unusual circumstances that led to the cancellation of our first attempt, and hopefully the short notice for this meeting will be accepted as equally unavoidable. The FCHT Board of Directors have kindly agreed to join us as Open to Question guests, which will undoubtedly make for an interesting dialogue. Feel free to join us for the scheduled two hours; everyone is welcome. Not strictly a Supporters Club matter, but here's hoping that the Double Denim event organised for today goes well. Whether or not you know Dennis Farrell personally, you will certainly know him by sight. Best wishes from the Supporters club Dennis, and may we see you around for many years yet! See you soon.

Kit.

Kingsley James

If you didn't know Kingsley James, and he bumped into you in town you wouldn't dream of the talent he possesses as a footballer. He would strike you as a rocker with his 'guns and roses' style haircut. Well that is just what he is, but with a wand of a right foot that took Town to victory last week at Gateshead.

Album Name: Kingsley's Korkers

Kingsley joined FC Halifax Town this summer following his move from Chester FC, which has seen him score five goals and create two for his team-mates to stick away. This kind of form with his feet transfers to his hand and fingers, and if a career in football fades away, James will certainly have the talent to be a rock and roll and star…all the Oasis fans amongst you will understand that reference.

“This one just reminds me of my family. My parents are massive fans of Simply Red and it's a song that reminds me so much of my folks.”

In the previous Shaymen Shout issue versus Braintree you heard Sam Walker's ultimate Record Player top ten, where you had everything from Manchester's greatest in The Stone Roses and Oasis, to rap legend Kayne West, and everyone's guilty pleasure Michael Jackson.

“It's classic Oasis isn't it? My older brother got me into Oasis and he played this all the time to me. You have to love Oasis, and Morning Glory is a proper out and out rock and roll song.”

But for this week's Shout, Michael Burton went and delved into the iPod of the long haired summer signing, to see what he listens too on a daily basis.

“This song takes me back to being at school, I can remember having discussions with my mates about bands back on the field at school.”

Track One: P.O.D – Southtown “This song is the best I've seen live, I saw them at Download festival a few years ago and they were fantastic, the atmosphere was amazing.” Track Two: Simply Red – Fairground

Track Three: KORN – Did My Time “Just my favourite KORN song and I love rocking out to it. They aren't everyone's cup of tea but they are mega to just rock out to!” Track Four: Oasis – Morning Glory

Track Five: Bring Me The Horizon – Chelsea Smile

FC HalifaxTown Burrow (5) Tuton (32, 42)

3-6

Braintree Town Woodyard (4) Cheek (18, 24, 49) Davis (30 pen) Szmodics (57)

0 The Shout SummaryFC Halifax Town were condemned to a fifth straight league loss for the first time in their history after Braintree – usually renowned for their cautious and defensive style - went goalcrazy at The Shay. In the past four games between the two sides, only two goals had been scored. That tally was equalled within five minutes here, in what was a truly explosive start to the contest which saw Alex Woodyard's cross sail over Matt Glennon before Town immediately levelled through Jordan Burrow. Burrow hit the bar before The Iron netted three times in a devastating 12 minute spell, only for Shaun Tuton's double to give the Shaymen hope before half-time. That's 3-4 after 45 minutes, if you've lost count. That hope was shortlived when Michael Cheek secured his hattrick four minutes after the restart and the visitors extended their lead even further courtesy of Sam Szmodics chipped effort. The result saw Darren Kelly's short reign as manager come to an end, as he was eventually relieved of his duties after only 47 days in charge. Quick-Quote…from Shaun Tuton “When we were in at half time, at 4-3, all the lads in the dressing room were buzzing because we thought we were back in it. Then we went out and conceded early and I think that's what killed us.”

Gateshead FC Bowman (38 pen)

1-4

FC HalifaxTown Tuton (22, 44, 79) James (40)

The Shout SummaryAgainst all of the odds, FC Halifax Town produced a heroic performance to claim only their third league win of the season in emphatic style at Gateshead. Managerless after Darren Kelly's dismissal in the build-up to the game and a defence that had conceded 35 goals in their last 10 games, that familiar sinking feeling arrived in the northeast after 35 minutes when Russell Griffiths, making his league debut on loan from Everton, was sent off for a foul on Ryan Bowman inside the penalty area. Bowman duly dispatched the resulting spot-kick to cancel out Shaun Tuton's opener and ten-men Town were seemingly facing another long and miserable afternoon. But, inspired by the astute Jim Harvey on the touchline in a caretaker role, the Shaymen responded magnificently in the face adversity with Kingsley James rifling in from 25 yards before Tuton poked in a third before the interval. You could not tell which side had the man-disadvantage in the second half – or even which side were rock-bottom of the National League – as Town controlled proceedings. Tuton put the cherry on top of the already sweet-tasting cake with a well-taken hat-trick clinching goal as Harvey showcased his managerial credentials in marvellous fashion.

Quick-Quote…from Matty Brown “We knew Gateshead had been struggling – not as bad as us – but it's time for us to roll our sleeves up and we left as men. There's no messing about now, we're in a situation which we need to get out of and I think today showed the first steps that we can climb up that table; we all know we are capable of it.”

Five-A-Side Competition

The FC Halifax Town Half-Time Five-A-Side Competition has returned to The Shay for the 2015-16 campaign after a hugely successful event last season. Holywell Green are the current holders and they will face Savile Park at the Quarter-Final stage on Saturday 30 January 2016 after Park outclassed Sowerby Village in a preliminary tie two weeks ago. Today's half-time encounter sees another preliminary tie – between Elland CoE and

Siddal - before the Quarter-Finals can finally get under way next Saturday. Organiser Ben Fawkes believes the competition provides a fantastic experience for the children involved. He beamed to the Shaymen Shout: “It is a wonderful, once-in-a-lifetime experience for all of the kids. The fans have really got behind the event in the past, so please cheer them all on again. Hopefully all of the kids can all get hooked on FC Halifax Town too.”

Commercial News With Ben Bottomley:

Good Afternoon and welcome to the MBi Shay for today's clash against Dover. There has been a big focus on sponsorship and hospitality recently and I am very pleased to say things are going very well and I must say a huge thank you to all the people who are supporting us. I am always very happy to receive feedback good or bad as I believe in listening to fans and businesses when it comes to commercial ideas. I would also like to give a special thanks to all those people who have recently made contact with me at the club to discuss sponsorship. Today we welcome our Match Ball Sponsor Dawson's Estate Agent. Dawson's are one of the area's leading property agents and Matthew Dawson is a great supporter of the club so if you ever need anyone to sell your property or if you wish to buy one then please make sure you give them a call or see their advert in today's programme. As always would like to give special mention all of our senior sponsors MBi Group, Integro Doodson, Hanson Plywood, VW van centre & Transline. Our main sponsors all play a crucial role with the club and I would encourage you to use the services they offer whenever you can. Please mention your connection with the Club when making contact. Thanks to our Box Holders today Stewart from Charnock- Bates and our FCHT Commercial Group I am also delighted to welcome The FC Halifax Town Commercial Group who are dining with us today. Thoughts with...

Eric Seth Marney 1932 - 2015 I don't remember the first time my Dad, Eric took me down the Shay I was too young to really know what was going on and was more interested in the buses coming in out of the Bus Garage on Skircoat Rd than events on the pitch. I do remember the day I joined him in his passion for Halifax Town. It was an away trip to Darlington in 1976. The game ended 0-0 nothing to write home about but there was something about the atmosphere, the smell of bovril, cigarettes and brown ale, the noise of a group of away fans chanting together packed into the away end of Feethams, the bright floodlights against the November gloom, I was hooked. From that day on Dad and I went to more and more games together it became our routine. I remember the Man City game and Dad saying to me 'enjoy this moment son, they don't come around very often at the Shay'. He was right but we did share quite a few memorable moments drawing against champions Watford in '78, beating Wolves in '88, beating West Brom in the FA cup our first live televised game, winning the league away at Kidderminster. Dad was heartbroken at the prospect of Halifax Town ceasing to exist . But found a new lease of life watching the Shaymen make their way back up through the Northern Premier Leagues. Visiting some of the tiny football outposts nearer to his Cumbrian home such as Workington, Clitheroe and Lancaster. Sadly as Eric's health deteriorated getting to the football got harder for him but always enjoyed discussing football with his friends and receiving updates on the score from the Shay from his sons and his friend Bob Holmes. Eric will be sadly missed by his family and the many friends he made during a lifetime of following the shaymen.

Bethany Shae Colbeck Born 8.11.15 Shae is after the stadium but different spelling. Dad in picture is Daniel Colbeck who is a big FCHXT fan. Mum's name is Gemma Colbeck. Picture is obviously taken at Register Office just after she's been registered.
